Chapter 39: Letter From Lotus

The sullen mood of Siroos didn’t elevate. Cassandra could sense whatever the elders had discussed with him had him displeased.

"What’s wrong?" Cassandra softly inquired, straightening up. He was softly holding her face.

"We need to have our bonding ceremony earlier. I know this is too soon for you but it’s essential for my pack and their survival," he informed her like a defeated man.

Cassandra could sense the burdens of his heart and the love he held for his people.

Siroos, on the other hand, had been forced by the elders of the pack to promptly take this action after the attack on Cassandra. If she died, the curse on them would never be lifted.

But if Siroos were to mark her and declare her his Luna, the curse would only be limited to Siroos. As long as he will keep his oath.

Cassandra knew she wasn’t ready for such a commitment to a man she barely knew. But he had already saved her life so many times, stood up for her when hardly anyone did and he didn’t force himself on her even though his customs were those of barbarians.

If she could help them liberate themselves from the curse, she was prepared. Although she didn’t fully understand how. Her heart was full of love and always kind.

"I will do it, Siroos. If I can help your people, then I am ready for it."

Siroos should have been jubilant, but his heart did nothing but ache. She was too innocent and soft and not at all prepared for the harsh life he was going to submerge her in.

"You will be tested. They won’t accept you so quickly. Once I claim you, there will be certain tests you will have to pass and it won’t be easy." His turbulent golden orbs stared at her beautiful face, how he wished to keep drinking in her appearance.

"Then I will try my best. I am not a quitter," she reassured him. freewebnoveℓ.com

"Malakti, you will have to be emotionally strong as well. My truths will break and test you," he straightforwardly spoke, not telling her what he meant for he didn’t have the heart.

She observed his stiffened posture, the man who feared nothing from the moment she had met him. The man who slays a vampire prince without bothering about the consequences was afraid of something.

His uneasiness she could sense somehow. Was it the bond they shared?

"What truths?" She murmured, as his thumb slowly grazed against her lower lip. His senses got overcrowded by her scent as his eyes dipped, making his brain overtaken by the raw desire to take them between his plump ones and chew on them.

Her heartbeat went erratic in her chest, seeing him so sensually stare at her. His lips were a hair’s breadth away almost hovering over hers. Their breaths mingled. Her core began to heat up from his soft touches, and soon, the warm wetness pooled between her legs, making her aroused.

He took a deep sniff and his thick rod went rock solid under his loincloth. The primal desires awakened, and he wished to grind himself against her, for the air was thick with her scent.

The blob in his throat bobbed as he gulped and buried all his desires. Letting her go he dragged himself away, putting distance between them.

Confused and embarrassed, Cassandra wondered what ticked off this brawny male so suddenly. Did he smell her arousal? Maybe he thought she was being immoral or trying to seduce him.

Her cheeks scalded crimson from these thoughts. He made her body tick in ways she wasn’t even aware of herself.

"You should rest, I will return later," he mumbled in a dull tone, hoisting himself up. Being Alpha of a cursed pack was not easy, especially when it involved his mate and the reasons for the curse were unknown.

The hidden realities he kept locked away in his chest, the ones she could only get a glimpse of and not decipher were going to hurt.

She watched him leave and slowly lay down on the soft pillow. Feeling restless, she stared at the ceiling for a while but sleep took her. The medicine she had been taking had a drowsy effect.

The next few days whirled past in a dull routine. Now that Cassandra had given her consent to be his Luna, they were keeping Siroos away from her.

She had started to walk, her injury had exponentially healed. But Lana helped her with mundane tasks and stayed by her side until she recovered completely.

Haylia visited often and guided her on understanding her duties once she ascended to the Luna position.

There was so much to learn, so many traditions but Cassandra had decided to prove herself. She could be so much more than just a useless princess. She had a chance to rise above that and become a Luna.

Cassandra also decided to open her luggage, now that she was feeling better. She went to the trunk with flowers. Opening it she found a letter with a Lotus seal on it. She instantly knew it was from her sister, underneath was a large jar with dried strawberries.

Cassandra instantly smiled seeing it. Strawberries were her favourite fruit.

Placing the jar in her lap, Cassandra greedily opened Lotus’s letter.

"Hey, my lovely Cass,

I know you will be saddened at this turn of events but this was the only way to keep you safe and away from Stephanie’s clutches. Her intentions are malicious now. You will be safer with that Oafish male, his heart is in the right place.

Forgive your sister for making this decision on your behalf. I am sending you away but I will always be here. If anything happens just send me a letter and I will come.

Just some strawberries I am keeping for you; I know there won’t be any in the desert, and you love them.

Love you,

Loti."

Cassandra had tears swimming in her eyes by the time she had finished reading the letter. She kissed it and gently folded it just to store it away, knowing her sister would always be there for her.

She placed the jar on the table near her so she could enjoy them whenever she felt like. Cassandra went back to exploring the rest of the contents of the trunk and sorting it.

The days passed slowly and she missed Siroos’s touch at times and wondered what the first experience with him would be like.

Will he be gentle or rough?

She had heard plenty of stories about the shifters as their animalistic sides took over and they would like to barbarically plunder their mates.

Siroos was special, he had the spirits of so many animals inside of him and once she would be comfortable with him, she would love to meet them.

She understood that the bonding ceremony did not only mean marking each other but was completed by them actually mating too. The mere thought shrouded her in shyness and she blushed down to her roots.

The buried desires she always harboured for someone who would come to love her began to resurface in abundance, and Cassandra began to daydream about her mate.
