Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 916: Who You Love and Who You Sleep With Is Your Freedom
Chapter 916: Chapter 916: Who You Love and Who You Sleep With Is Your Freedom
Mary Scott didn’t sleep at all after returning from the Imperial Cuisine Pavilion.
She thought long and hard and decided to give David Locke one last chance. If he came back that night to listen to her explanation, she would give their relationship a shot. But if he stayed out all night, she wouldn’t need to struggle anymore.
But the villa door remained silent until the sky turned fish-belly white and the sun gradually emerged from the clouds, turning the whole eastern sky pale yellow.
Mary’s last glimmer of hope shattered. She struggled to get up from the floor but fell back because her legs were numb. Her slender legs hit the black marble coffee table, and the pain made her face even paler.
She forced herself to hold up her body, stiffly and slowly went upstairs, opened her room, and began to pack her things.
But... there seemed to be nothing to pack.
The last time she decided to leave David Locke, she had already taken all her belongings back. Now this closet full of beautiful clothes, jewelry, and bags, none of them truly belonged to her.
So this place wasn’t really her home.
Thinking this, Mary felt both pathetic and ridiculous, took the items out of the suitcase, changed out of the expensive brand-name wool sweater worth tens of thousands, and put back on the old clothes that had been despised by a man. It was only then she realized her phone had somehow shut off. After thinking about it for a while, she found the charger and started charging it.
But after doing this, Mary didn’t know how to talk to her brother.
They had just been brought back under the guise of spending New Year’s together as a family, and now, less than four days later, they were leaving in disgrace. She didn’t care about herself, but how upset would her brother be?
Her nose tingled, and Mary restrained her emotions. If her last departure from David had a bit of a childish grudge, this time it was completely different.
Mary was fully and soberly aware that she and David Locke were no longer in the same world, and their relationship was long over.
Staying would only be self-humiliation.
Separation was the best choice.
Any relationship that was forced would never end well.
They were no exception.
After a night, Mary was clear-headed and rational enough. She sorted out her chaotic emotions, got up, and went to knock on her brother’s door.
But just as she reached out her hand, Alfred Scott opened the door first.
Mary was a bit stunned, "Alfred, you’re awake? We..."
"We’re going home." Before Mary could finish, Alfred had already spoken on her behalf.
Mary’s hand was still mid-air, and she hadn’t retracted it when she heard her brother’s words. "You... you know?"
Alfred nodded. Not only did he know about the news last night involving his sister, but he also knew that her husband hadn’t come back all night. He also knew all about his sister’s marriage to David Locke and the grievances she had endured in their relationship.
He neither spoke nor mentioned it because his sister didn’t want him to know or feel embarrassed, but that didn’t mean he would let a man continue to bully her.
After such a major event happened yesterday, considering David’s position and capability, his inaction meant something to Alfred, so there was no reason to stay.
Alfred nodded again and directly lifted his own luggage, which was already packed last night.
Only at that moment did Mary realize that her brother understood everything and had seen through it all. It was she herself who was trapped in a past relationship and unwilling to face the truth.
She forced herself to smile and reached out to pat her brother’s head. "Our Alfred is truly something."
"Stop smiling; it’s worse than crying." Alfred mocked her, and worried that he might have hurt her feelings, he sneaked a glance at her, then quietly said, "You used to be stubborn because it was a teenage obsession, but now you’ve been married and lived together, so the obsession should be almost gone, right?"
Mary nodded, "Yes, I don’t have that obsession anymore."
"Then let’s go home. If we don’t go back soon, the food you bought before will spoil, and little Mona will definitely be hungry." Alfred muttered softly.
Little Mona was a small turtle he had picked up by the roadside, and they had forgotten to bring it in the rush to leave.
"Oh right, it’s not good to let little Mona go hungry." Mary nodded, her tone suddenly much lighter.
Alfred breathed a small sigh of relief and took Mary downstairs.
Unexpectedly, as they opened the door, they ran straight into the disheveled David Locke.
David hadn’t expected to run into Mary and Alfred. His eyes fell on the suitcase in Alfred’s hand, and his face turned frighteningly dark, "What are you doing?"
Mary smelled the strong alcohol on the man and frowned but said nothing.
Alfred stepped forward to shield Mary, "I’m taking my sister home."
David didn’t look at Alfred; his eyes stayed fixed on Mary, "Running away again? Is that the only trick you know?"
Mary was provoked by David’s words, causing her chest to heave, but she remembered the decision she had made. "Don’t worry, this is the last time."
David’s eyes, already bloodshot, became even redder, "What do you mean by the last time? What are you saying, Moll Scott?"
"Just what it sounds like. Since you don’t trust me, our being together is nothing but mutual torment. Why not... why not... divorce." The word "divorce" was hard for Mary to say, but she still couldn’t get it out because she knew that once it was said, it would be for real.
But she had to say it.
And at the moment those two words fell, David suddenly pushed Alfred aside like a leopard and pushed Mary against the door behind her.
Mary’s eyes turned red from the pain. Alfred was enraged, dropped the suitcase, and punched David, but David seemed not to feel any pain. Still bloodshot-eyed, he continued to stare at Mary, "Say those two words again!"
Mary was taken aback by the ferocity in David. She had known he was moody, no longer the sunny boy from before, but even after all this time together, she had never seen him so out of control, not even last night.
For a moment, Mary felt that David wanted to tear her apart.
Her body uncontrollably trembled, instinctively trying to shrink back, but she dared not say those two words again. She felt that if she did, this man might devour her whole.
"Say it! Moll Scott, aren’t you the best at hurtful words? Say it, what do you want from me?" David couldn’t control himself and shouted at Mary. He was crazy to believe Brandon Piers’ words, sobered up early in the morning, and rushed home to hear her explanation.
But what was the result?
Not only did she want to leave, but the first words were about divorce. Did she think divorce was a particularly fun thing to randomly hang on her lips?
This woman had no heart!
"David, don’t go too far. Hasn’t my sister been bullied by you enough?" Alfred rushed forward to block David.
David snorted coldly, "I bullied her? What ability do I have to bully her, yet she’s dedicated herself to putting a Green Hat on me from the past to the present..."
Bam!
David hadn’t finished speaking when Alfred punched him again.
This time, David still didn’t dodge and was solidly hit in the face. Though he staggered, he did not retaliate, instead still staring at Mary, "Am I wrong? Then why don’t you explain? What was your relationship with Lambert Norman back then? Was last night’s video a fake..."
By the end, David’s voice grew quieter, only feeling utterly pathetic. How did he fall in love with such a woman and trap himself in such a miserable situation?
The hungover man’s head hurt terribly, and on top of Alfred’s two punches, his body swayed, suddenly deflated like a balloon losing air, and his grip on Mary loosened. His eyes fell on the red marks he had left, "Forget it, whom you love, who you’re with, and who you sleep with is your freedom. If you can’t keep someone, you can’t keep their heart. Go ahead, leave..."
After saying this, he waved his hand and then stumbled to open the door, but his shaking hands kept missing the fingerprint lock.
Mary watched as the man beside her, whose despair had reached the extreme, suddenly appeared lifeless as if his last bit of spirit was sucked out. Her heart ached intensely, and she reached out to pull David, but the moment she touched him, he recoiled as if he loathed her greatly.
Mary froze on the spot, her face full of hurt. She wanted to say something, but Alfred had already pulled her over, "Sis, let’s go!"
Alfred was furious. Didn’t David know his sister for so many years? How could he not know the kind of person she was? He didn’t believe the video at first glance, but David clearly thought she’d betrayed him. What was the point of being together with a man who didn’t believe his sister?
Ultimately, they’d end up misunderstanding her over the same things, torturing each other. Over the years, he’d seen how much his sister loved him, but what did she get in return? Only doubt and distrust!
If he had known earlier, his sister might as well have chosen Lambert in the first place. At least Lambert wouldn’t misunderstand her like this!
The more Alfred thought, the angrier he became.
But seeing David’s haggard state, Mary felt a bit soft-hearted. She wanted to reach out but hesitated due to the man’s earlier reaction. Her mouth opened slightly, "Dobbin Locke..."
"Sis, stop degrading yourself. Haven’t we been degraded enough over the years? He’s already treating you like this. If he knew about our family..."
"Alfred!" Mary suddenly shouted at her brother, and her softened heart hardened once more. How could she forget about this ticking bomb? If David knew, how long could their already fragile relationship last?
"Sis..." Alfred’s heart ached too. He knew all too well how much his sister loved David.
"Let’s go." Mary’s gaze fell upon David beside her, and she finally spoke.
David’s body stiffened, staring intently at Mary. He had avoided her earlier to keep himself from softening, but hearing her actually say "let’s go," he found it hard to accept. His heart sank bit by bit, "Mary Scott, do you know what it means for you to leave today? Don’t think I’ll run back to you like last time and bring you back. This time, if you want to leave, we’re really done!"
His last words were a naked threat.
Mary felt intense heartache and stopped in her tracks, tears brimming in her eyes. She wished she could rush over and hit him, asking why he didn’t trust her, why he couldn’t give her a chance to explain, why he couldn’t be more patient. But her logic warned her that it would only be humiliating.
He didn’t truly love her; it was merely a refusal to accept the initial betrayal of first love in their youth, making him torment her repeatedly. What good would it do to stay? To become a pair of resentful souls who hate each other?
If so, she’d rather give up now, allowing herself to carry the remnants of untarnished beauty and continue living.
"Let’s go," Mary said to her brother, forcing herself to turn around. In that moment, tears she’d stubbornly held back started to fall in large drops.
Alfred looked at the two of them, his heart feeling heavy. Caught between them, he grabbed the suitcase with one hand and his sister with the other, moving slowly.
David stood on the steps, watching Mary and Alfred take each step out, his heart sinking completely. All dark thoughts surged up like tides, consuming his sanity, and he suddenly pressed down on the suitcase Alfred was pulling.
Alfred turned back, "Let go!"
David didn’t move.
Seeing his sister’s somewhat swayed expression and the rogue-like man, anger surged in Alfred’s heart. No wonder his sister always struggled to stay away, only to return—it’s because of this bastard. Earlier, he wanted her to leave, and now he looked heartbroken; who was this act for?
"Let go, or don’t blame me for being rude." Alfred gritted his teeth. His sister had just made this decision with great difficulty, and he couldn’t let her be hurt again. After these words, Alfred suddenly let go and punched David again.
Mary panicked, "Alfred, don’t..."
David flinched at Mary’s voice and got hit squarely again. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and retaliated against Alfred.
Mary was terrified—her brother just had surgery, and David looked pale. How could they fight? Without thinking, she rushed in to separate them, but with the two in a frenzy, punches landed on Mary herself. She let out a pained moan, lifted her head, and took a deep breath, "Stop fighting."
"Sis, are you okay?"
"Are you alright?"
They asked anxiously. Mary didn’t respond, only gave David a complex look, then stepped forward to lift the suitcase, pulling it out on her own. Alfred urged, "Sis..."
"Go." Her voice was cold and angry, and Alfred dared not argue, following her stride.
David, having touched Mary’s fists, seemed dazed, and when he realized she was leaving, he subconsciously wanted to chase her. But seeing Mary’s cold, defensive demeanor, fear suddenly gripped him. Standing in the cold wind, he watched the siblings walk away step by step, feeling like a hollow void had opened in his heart. He couldn’t understand why, when he came to stop Mary from leaving, he still managed to mess it up?
Standing in the cold wind, David only felt his heart sinking into an icy abyss without knowing how to pull it back up.
He couldn’t say how much time passed as David stood rooted to the spot, while the Scott siblings had long vanished along the green marble path. David’s heart wrenched bit by bit, and for the first time, he truly felt he’d lost Mary Scott.
After six years, it seemed he’d lost her again...
