Chapter 923: Chapter 923: Don’t Ask Men These Kinds of Questions

Mary Scott stared at David Locke and noticed that his cheeks were growing redder by the second, with even his ears tinged with an unusual flush. A thought suddenly popped into her head, and she pointed toward the bathroom. "Want to go?"

David Locke nodded in embarrassment.

Mary had never imagined she would one day witness such an endearing side of him. She fought hard to suppress her laughter, pressing her lips together. "I’ll help you."

"No need." David could easily see the amusement in Mary’s eyes—so thick it was practically suffocating. Feeling somewhat irritated and mortified, he declined. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Oh? You think you can manage by yourself?" Mary raised her eyes and arched a brow at him.

David, clearly annoyed, retorted, "Don’t ask a man if he can or can’t."

Mary’s playful spirit kicked in. Ever since they reunited, she had seen many sides of him but never one where he was shy. "Oh, really? But with that leg in a cast, the doctor said if you don’t rest properly and it gets injured again, you might end up limping permanently."

She paused, as if seriously contemplating. "I can’t even picture what Director Locke would look like limping."

David knew she was doing it on purpose. He sneered, "Even if I end up limping, I’ll still handle you just fine."

Mary glared at the man after his blatant flirtation, her tone dripping with annoyance. "Since you don’t want my help, I’ll call a nurse for you."

As she reached for the call button, David grabbed her wrist before she could press it. She looked up at him with wide, innocent doe-like eyes. "Hmm?"

David’s bronze complexion turned an even deeper shade of red. Gritting his teeth, he relented. "You help me."

Mary couldn’t hold back her laughter any longer, letting out a joyful chuckle. For the first time since their reunion, she realized how irresistibly cute this man could be. But her amusement was quickly replaced by regret.

David was tall, and with his fever yet to fully subside, half his body leaned on her for support. The heat from his body burned through her clothes, making her feel flushed. It had been some time since they last got physically close—ever since that one night. She wasn’t quite used to it, and her cheeks faintly turned pink. Still, she couldn’t just leave him; one hand steadied his frame while the other held the IV bottle.

The real challenge, however, came when they reached the bathroom. Mary realized there was no place to hang the IV bottle. Meanwhile, it was clear David couldn’t hold it much longer. Left with no choice, she turned her back to him for privacy.

But David, with a needle taped to his arm, one leg immobilized, and his body weakened from the fever, fumbled several times to unbuckle his pants, his forehead gathering a thin layer of sweat in frustration.

Having waited for a while and hearing no progress, Mary grew concerned. "Are you okay?"

"Don’t talk," David growled hoarsely, his voice tinged with both shame and irritation.

Mary had spent enough time with him to understand his temperament. His apparent agony overrode her own embarrassment. She decisively turned around. "I’ll help you."

"No, don’t... Moll Scott!"

David’s refusal barely left his lips before Mary completely ignored him. With quick efficiency, she handed the IV bottle to him and used her small hands to undo his pants.

At the moment of relief, David involuntarily let out a breath. But then he noticed the little woman beside him staring dumbly at him. His face flushed a deep red as memories of their previous intimacy bubbled up, his body stirring instinctively.

Mary just stood there, witnessing it all unfold, her expression shifting from shock to abject mortification as she realized what she had done. Unable to face the situation further, she bolted out of the room.

Back in the hospital room, Mary pressed her burning cheeks. She couldn’t believe what had just happened, muttering under her breath, "Mary Scott, are you insane?"

She had no idea how much time had passed when her face finally cooled down, only to realize David still hadn’t come out of the bathroom. Worry replaced her earlier embarrassment, but she hesitated to go in, standing by the door instead. She knocked lightly. "Are you alright?"

But there was no response from inside. Mary frowned and took a step forward. Just as she decided to go in, David’s raspy voice came from within. It was even deeper and more hurried than before. "Don’t come in..."

Mary froze, unsure of what was happening inside. Her worry grew. "Dobbin Locke, are you okay?"

"Ugh..."

The sound of David’s muffled groan pierced through the door, and Mary’s concern overrode her hesitation. She rushed in, only to find him struggling to pull up his pants, his face blazing red. Even his neck was flushed, and sweat dampened the strands of hair clinging to his forehead.

Mary’s mind instantly leapt to a certain possibility, and her cheeks heated once more. She shot David an indignant glare, tempted to storm off, but the sight of this usually proud man in such an awkward state made her pause. His disheveled appearance, combined with the flush on his face and the tiny beauty mark on the corner of his reddened eye, emanated an indescribable allure that caused her heart to skip a beat. Her voice came out unsteady, "Let me help you."

David’s gaze snapped up to hers.

Realizing how ambiguous her words sounded, Mary quickly corrected herself, her voice dry. "I mean, I’ll help you pull up your pants."

David blinked, his complicated emotions receding. Yet the thick air of tension and the inexplicable intimacy between them lingered, leaving a haze that fuzzed the line between reality and desire.

After a great deal of effort, Mary finally got David back to the bed. Just as she thought she was done, his raspy voice cut through the silence. "Help me change into a fresh pair of pants."

Mary’s brows twitched involuntarily. She swallowed hard and met his conflicted gaze, only for her eyes to dart down to the darkened stain on his pants. Fighting the urge to cover her face, she muttered, "I’ll go get them."

What had she gotten herself into by agreeing to take care of this man?
