Chapter 926: Chapter 926: Were You Just Worried That I Couldn’t Make It?

Simon Baker heard Mary Scott’s words and realized the gravity of the situation. He raised his hand to summon Assistant Director Ernest, "What’s going on?"

Assistant Director Ernest was aware of some of the trending topics online. However, like Simon Baker, he was focused on refreshing the viewing data repeatedly. Even though he knew the external chatter was intense, he didn’t think it was a big deal. After all, in this industry, popularity inevitably comes with controversy, and being targeted by trolls is expected—they’d been mentally prepared for that long ago.

But since the matter involved Mary Scott, they dared not take it lightly anymore.

Assistant Director Ernest quickly went to investigate the situation and soon discovered it was Duke Blue stirring up trouble. He reported everything to Simon Baker without holding back.

Simon Baker’s expression changed slightly after hearing the details. He hadn’t anticipated the situation escalating like this. Initially, he thought airing footage of Mary Scott working hard would make netizens realize she wasn’t slacking off and clear her name.

As for Duke Blue’s screen time, it truly wasn’t intentional. It was just that Duke Blue, being overly cunning and leveraging his sensitivity to camera placement as a former idol, easily blocked Mary Scott’s footage during live broadcasts. On top of that, Duke Blue had little standout moments in the show, so Simon Baker cut a lot of his useless scenes. Unexpectedly, this became the root of the accusations against Mary Scott, as well as Duke Blue’s excuse to play the victim.

This was truly infuriating!

Simon Baker had never been fond of Duke Blue. The supposed "affair video" between him and Mary Scott was most likely leaked from Duke Blue’s side as well. Now with him stirring up trouble again, there was no way Simon Baker could tolerate it. After instructing Assistant Director Ernest on a few matters, Simon Baker solemnly assured Mary Scott, "Miss Scott, you’ll know soon enough."

Simon Baker knew there was no point in explaining a detailed plan to her; Mary Scott was looking for his attitude in handling the issue.

After saying this, Simon Baker hung up first. His face, graced with a small mustache, rarely displayed a hint of cold resolve.

Mary Scott frowned slightly upon being hung up on. Despite her worries, she ultimately chose to trust Simon Baker. freewebnσvel.cѳm

But ten minutes passed, then twenty minutes, and the production team still showed no signs of action. Just as Mary Scott furrowed her brows and hesitated about calling again, a large hand pressed lightly against her forehead.

Mary Scott looked at David Locke in confusion.

"Don’t frown. Ugly." David Locke said, then reached out to smooth Mary Scott’s brows.

Although the man’s high fever had subsided, his body temperature was still slightly higher than normal. His palm resting on Mary Scott’s forehead sent a light tremor through her body, uncontrollably so. Instinctively, she lifted her gaze to look at him—but the next words she heard made her instantly more upset, "If you’re ugly, don’t look."

David Locke noticed her coquettish yet irritated tone, and laughter flickered in his eyes. "You’re not that ugly."

Mary Scott huffed lightly at this and reached out to slap David Locke’s hand away, only for him to catch her hand instead.

While the two had been through quite a bit of close contact since last night, this was the first time David Locke held her hand like this. Mary Scott’s heart immediately stuttered and raced as she pursed her dry lips. "What are you doing?"

"Simon Baker isn’t someone who breaks his word. Don’t worry; sleep on it, and there will be results tomorrow." David Locke didn’t answer her question, instead redirecting the topic to her concerns.

Mary Scott hadn’t interacted with Simon Baker that much, but she could tell he wasn’t a bad person and wouldn’t deceive her. She nodded slightly at David Locke. "Got it. Can you let go of me now?"

Just being held by the hand was overwhelming for Mary Scott. Coupled with the fact that the two of them had been sitting close together watching videos, his steady grip made her feel as if she might fall into his arms at any moment.

"Not really in the mood to let go." David Locke looked at the petite woman beside him. He wasn’t sure if the hospital heating was too warm, but her skin near him seemed flushed with a pink hue, triggering an almost irresistible desire to touch her.

Mary Scott was shocked by his unabashed response, turning her head in disbelief to look at him. She met his intense gaze, causing her heart to quiver. Suddenly reminded of that absurd night, her pulse quickened even more, the temperature around her seemed to rise, and the faint scent of pine mixed with the man’s smoky undertones reached her nose. Reflexively, she swallowed.

David Locke caught her reaction, his lips curling slightly as his large hand gently rubbed the back of her hand. His voice carried a husky note, "Sleep?"

Mary Scott stared at him wide-eyed like a startled deer. This man had become so blunt—straightforwardly asking "sleep?" without even considering whether he could sleep with how his leg was?

While she was internally complaining, Mary Scott’s nervousness grew as she glanced surreptitiously toward David Locke’s lower half.

David Locke saw Mary Scott’s reaction and couldn’t help but realize what was running through her mind. He was both amused and exasperated, raising his brows and asking, "What are you thinking?"

"Huh?" Mary Scott’s attention was still elsewhere. Suddenly being called out left her momentarily stunned; she blankly responded with an "uh," then hurriedly covered up her embarrassment, "It’s nothing. I wasn’t thinking anything!"

The denial sounded suspiciously like an attempt to cover up her guilt.

David Locke felt an urge to tease her, suddenly leaning closer. "Really not thinking about anything?"

The two were already sitting close. This sudden move from David Locke startled Mary Scott, causing her to lean back involuntarily. Her lips parted as she stammered, "Why... why are you suddenly getting so close?"

"Oh, why don’t you tell me what you were just thinking?" David Locke persisted, not backing off, still waiting for her response.
