Reborn as Mr.CEO's Fat Wife-Chapter 972: Isn’t My Dream Just You?
Chapter 972: Chapter 972: Isn’t My Dream Just You?
Mary Scott rushed to the emergency room, and the light outside was still on.
In February, the temperature in Swallow City was still below zero. Even though the hospital had heating, Mary stood in the corridor trembling uncontrollably.
Last time, when Alfred Scott suddenly had blurred vision and was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Mary felt like the sky had fallen. But at least the doctor informed her that as long as the surgery was paid for, the chances of it being malignant were very small and it could be cured.
Unlike now, just thinking of what Alfred’s roommate said about that heap of blood made Mary’s hands and feet go soft.
"Who here is a relative of Alfred Scott?" Just as Mary couldn’t control her wild thoughts, the door to the operating room opened, and a nurse asked.
Mary shivered and stepped forward, "Me! How is my brother?"
"Mary, slow down," Lambert Norman, who had been following her, reminded her in a low voice.
Mary couldn’t listen at this point and rushed to the doctor to ask anxiously.
The nurse glanced at her, "Oh, Alfred’s situation isn’t serious, but his classmate, who got injured for him, is hurt quite badly. He is still unconscious. Can you advance the medical fees for both of them?"
Mary was taken aback upon hearing this, then hurriedly nodded. Lambert had already stepped forward to take the form, "I’ll have someone pay for it right now."
The nurse turned around and returned to the operating room.
Mary finally let out a deep sigh of relief and slumped into the waiting chair nearby. Lambert handed the payment form to the driver and then approached her, "Mary, are you okay? You look very pale. Do you want to rest for a while since Alfred is okay..."
"I’m fine, I’ll wait here for him." Mary interrupted Lambert. She couldn’t be at ease without seeing her brother.
But even before Alfred came out, Mary saw Assistant Jonah pushing David Locke out of the elevator. The man was wearing a coffee-colored tweed coat, and even sitting in a wheelchair, he couldn’t suppress his cold and imposing aura.
Seeing Mary and Lambert one sitting and one standing, David’s expression became increasingly grim.
Mary’s previously settled emotions stirred up again when she remembered how she had let the media wait for nothing. She looked up, wanting to discuss with Lambert what to do next, but as soon as she looked up, she had a feeling and turned towards the elevator. She saw David, who should have still been lying in the hotel room, now neatly dressed, sitting in his wheelchair and coming towards her with a brooding aura.
Mary shivered, instinctively stood up, and moved back a bit.
Her honest bodily reaction made David’s face darken more.
Lambert, seeing this, frowned and stood in front of Mary.
David instantly felt a throbbing at his forehead, furious!
Mary, seeing this situation, quickly peeked out from behind Lambert, feeling extremely guilty and asked, "Why are you here?" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"Huh." David was infuriated to the point of laughter again.
Mary became even more embarrassed and gently pushed Lambert aside, though her feet felt glued to the spot as she tentatively asked, "Did the school notify you? The doctor said Alfred’s issue isn’t big, just that his classmate is still unconscious."
"Come here." David’s gaze fell where Mary had touched Lambert, with anger simmering in his eyes, and he commanded lowly.
Lambert was very displeased with this, "Is that how you talk to Mary? Who do you think she is to you?"
David gave Lambert a cold glance and returned his gaze to Mary, "Come here."
Otherwise, he really couldn’t control what he might do.
Mary felt the turbulent and violent aura emanating from David and gave Lambert an awkward smile, then started to walk towards David. After all, she had done wrong today, and she hid instinctively because she felt guilty. Little did she know that she had only taken a few steps when Lambert suddenly grabbed her wrist.
The sudden action made Mary startled, and she instinctively turned to look at him.
"Don’t go." Lambert no longer concealed his feelings, looking at Mary and speaking softly, the tone containing a plea he had never shown before.
Mary had known Lambert for many years, knowing him as a perfect gentleman, always gentle and polite. Even though they got a marriage certificate in M Kingdom, they had always been restrained and courteous, never engaging in any intimate behavior. She and Alfred always regarded Lambert as an older brother and explained it clearly to him, but the Lambert holding her wrist now seemed unlike what she understood.
His actions had already crossed a line, and the emotions in his eyes were too straightforward and naked for her to hide, lingering in shock before tentatively struggling to withdraw her wrist from Lambert’s grasp.
But the normally gentle man seemed determined, gripping her wrist tightly without letting go, making Mary anxious, "Brother Lambert, let go of me."
She tried to keep her voice polite.
Having known each other for years, Mary genuinely did not want this unexpected situation to tear them apart.
Lambert didn’t move, removing his former disguised emotion, and for the first time, looked earnestly and intently at Mary, "Mary, come back to M Kingdom with me. He’s not right for you, nor is the environment here. Staying here is only bound to bring you pain, so why not leave with me. I let you go not so you could really find him and be with him, but so you’d realize he’s not right for you."
Travel-stained, Mia Anderson walked in and saw such a scene, frozen in place, then looked sharply behind her. Fortunately, the reporters who followed when she entered the hospital had been cleared, otherwise, this love triangle drama was bound to explode on social media again.
She slightly calmed her thumping heart and looked at Assistant Jonah for help.
Martin, receiving Mia’s eye signal, shook his head towards her.
Mia looked at Lambert holding Mary, then at David sitting nearby, who remained unmoved after Lambert’s confession, growing increasingly confused.
What the hell is going on here?
Mary didn’t expect Lambert to suddenly say such things to her under these circumstances. After the initial shock, her heart was filled with layers of guilt, purposefully with apology, "Brother Lambert, I’m sorry, you know I only have him in my heart."
She knew that such a straightforward and public refusal was hurtful, but she also understood that only by doing so could she leave no room for Lambert and not cause David unnecessary insecurity.
In matters of love, such things as a sense of security are mutually given.
She was a very selfish person; her feelings only had this one portion, given to David and could not be extended to anyone else. To spare her beloved hurt, she had to wrong Lambert.
Lambert had long known this would be the answer, but hearing it again from Mary still made his heartache unbearably, his mouth barely curled into a sarcastic smile, "Did you really never develop any other feelings for me all these years?"
Mary shook her head, "Alfred and I always regarded you as an older brother..." Paused, "You know that."
Lambert’s smile grew bitter, but he still tried to adjust his emotions, "Then I’ll remain your older brother in the future?"
Mary was stunned, watching Lambert casually release her and pat her shoulder lightly, "That’s settled then."
"Ah? Okay!"
"Okay, my foot!" Mary responded, her words had just left her mouth when David, who hadn’t moved since Lambert spoke until Mary refused him, suddenly stepped forward and roughly pulled Mary toward Lambert.
Mary found David’s jealous actions very awkward, extending her hand to tug on the man, smiling apologetically at Lambert.
Lambert’s gaze fell on David, different from the gentle look he gave Mary. When looking at David, Lambert’s gaze was sharp, and David also showed no intention of backing down.
As these two seemed about to clash, Mia and Assistant Jonah behind tensed up, looking to Mary for help.
Mary took a deep breath, "Hey, you guys..."
Bam!
She had just started speaking when the door to the emergency room suddenly swung open, Mary instantly looked over, then rushed to the doorway, her mind no longer distracted by the battle of these two men.
David felt stifled by Mary’s swift action, met with Lambert’s gloating expression, threw him a provoking glance, and wheeled himself in pursuit of Mary.
The nurse pushed the two patients out one after another, and Mary hurried up to see Alfred awake and quickly asked, "Alfred, are you okay?"
"Sis, I’m fine, thanks to this classmate." Alfred pointed to the patient who came out behind him.
Mary quickly looked over, and indeed the other person’s condition was much worse than Alfred’s, with his forehead and shoulder heavily bandaged. The person’s face was almost bloodless, and upon hearing the noise, he barely opened his eyes. Seeing Mary, he froze, then noticing the gaze behind her, looked over to see David, struggling to sit up.
David gestured for him not to move.
Mary and Alfred curiously looked at David, then heard the person on the wheelbed endure the pain and report, "Boss, today’s incident wasn’t an accident."
David’s expression stiffened, turning to Martin, "Call the police."
"Yes." Martin turned and went to handle it.
David turned back to the person on the wheelbed, "Take good care of yourself; don’t worry about anything else."
Mary stood dumbfounded on the side, only realizing after a while, "Is he one of yours? Was today’s incident not an accident?"
This realization made Mary’s heart skip a beat, followed by a strong sense of lingering fear, looking at the person on the wheelbed with greater gratitude.
The other received Mary’s look and hurriedly spoke with difficulty, "Madam, there’s no need for excessive thanks. This was Director Locke’s arrangement, I’m just doing my duty."
Alfred also realized, the unfamiliar-looking man in front of him wasn’t his classmate but one of David’s assigned bodyguards.
"The patient just had surgery. If you have anything to talk about, go to the ward." The nurse reminded as Mary was about to speak again.
Only then did everyone react, hastily making way.
Alfred’s injuries weren’t severe. He just needed to stay in the hospital for a day’s observation, with no complications, he could be discharged. Martin acted swiftly, and the police arrived soon after to investigate.
After almost everything was handled, Mia carefully approached Mary to remind her, "Mary, what should we do about the media outside?"
Mary recognized Mia, giving a small gasp; she had completely forgotten about the press conference! What to do now?
Instinctively, Mary looked in David’s direction. The man was busy arranging something, listening intently to Martin’s report, seemingly unaware of her situation.
Mary thought for a moment and carefully moved towards the ward’s exit, intending to see if Lambert had left and to discuss a strategy with him for future events. However, as soon as she slipped to the door, a sharp gaze swept over her.
"Heh..." Mary trembled at David’s eyes, almost as if they could see through her soul, and laughed guiltily.
"Come here." David, perceiving Mary’s intention, coldly ordered.
Mary let out a nervous laugh, "I have a little something to handle, I’ll come over later?"
David didn’t move, merely looking at her indifferently.
This look made Mary more unnerved than if he had directly questioned her, forcing her to barely move in small steps, unwillingly coming to stand in front of David, "Is there something you need?"
David, feeling his irritation subside, thoughts If anything?, amazed this woman could even ask!
Mary perceived the change in the person’s mood and felt guiltier, stopping when she was about half a meter away from David, "Speak, then. I have something to deal with afterward."
David glanced at Mary, who stopped halfway, "..."
Seeing his sister like this, Alfred was displeased, "Though this time you sent someone to save me, if you dare bully my sister, I won’t let you off!"
A very guilty Mary, "..."
She threw a look at her brother indicating for him to stop talking, taking small steps closer, "Alfred got hit on the head, he might not be thinking straight, don’t mind him."
Transformed into a brother-protection maniac, Alfred seemed to fumble, incredulously looking at his sister, as if to ask, Are you serious? And also, he didn’t get hit on the head, did he?
But with Alfred’s injuries not severe and no longer any fatal danger, Mary abandoned her previous tension, completely ignoring him, trying to appease David with a fawning look.
When David thought back to discovering an empty spot beside him after receiving Martin’s call and getting the investigation which exposed what this woman planned to do, he took a deep breath, "First, tell me what you have to handle later."
"I..." Mary stumbled over her words, unsure how to explain her intentions to the man, inching backward.
Alfred, observing from the side, grew increasingly irritated. His sister was always so strong and fierce in front of him, but why was she so cowardly in front of this man? If she acted this way, he could only wonder what sort of bullying might happen in the future.
Just as Alfred’s anger brewed, Mia’s phone rang, temporarily breaking the stiff atmosphere in the ward. Yet after taking the call, Mia’s face changed as she urgently shouted to Mary, "Mary, bad news! A media outlet burst into the hospital, ignoring all barriers. Lambert’s people and the hospital’s security couldn’t stop them."
Mary’s body tensed sharply, no longer hesitating with David, she turned to leave. However, as she turned, David grabbed her wrist, causing her to panic, "Let go, Dobbin, I need to draw away the journalists; they followed me here!"
She didn’t want David to suffer alongside her, nor her brother bombarded because of her.
"Draw them away? How? Your impromptu press conference earlier leaked, then you canceled. Do you think the media will be kind to you? Stay put, I’ll handle it." David pulled Mary directly before him with a gentle force, giving her a warning look from his eyes.
Mary’s body stiffened, "No, I can’t keep hiding; Dobbin, I’ve decided, I’m leaving the entertainment circle. It’s better for everyone, so don’t stop me."
David frowned, "I told you I can handle this."
"And get involved with the entire entertainment industry because of me? David, we don’t both need to sacrifice for this. I’ve promised you, I’ll leave the circle but never leave you." Mary’s eyes held an unprecedented resolution.
David paused, yet didn’t release Mary’s hand, looking intently into her eyes, "Then what about your dreams?"
Mary hesitated slightly, then suddenly beamed at the man, "Isn’t my dream you?"
