Chapter 477: Chapter 456 Second Update

"Come in first, if we can save you, we certainly won’t stand idly by," Master Ling Yi spoke again, his gaze fixed on the two people. If there was the slightest hint of hesitation from them, he would take action.

To the surprise of everyone present, the duo showed not a hint of hesitance and headed straight for the gate. In their next step, they were right in the center of the Formation. The golden Formation entangled them in an instant, and they looked towards Master Ling Yi in shock.

"Do not be afraid, this Formation won’t harm your lives for the time being. If you want us to save you, you must stay inside it first," Master Ling Yi finally said.

The two hesitated for a moment then finally nodded their heads in resignation.

The disciples all breathed a sigh of relief as the atmosphere was no longer as tense as before. Although the two were trapped in the Formation, Master Ling Yi had not deceived them. The Formation was powered by the Mage’s energy, and as long as they did not cast any Spells, the two would not face any life-threatening dangers.

Master Ling Yi examined the two through the Formation, finding their condition as they had described - the Spells were exceptionally domineering. However, the two did not disclose what kind of Formation it was, only repeatedly stating that the Formation had been forcefully cast upon them by a wicked person.

Naturally, Master Ling Yi easily guessed that the wicked person they mentioned was Yin He, and he did not overly doubt their words. Given the domineering nature of the Spells and their formidable power, they certainly must be a secret art. Therefore, it made sense that Yin He did not divulge it to them.

Furthermore, Master Ling Yi surmised that Yin He had not shared the entirety of the Spells with these two individuals but rather planned to use them to achieve the goal of killing the Disciples of Qiandao Temple. After using them, they would likely die from the power of these tyrannical Spells - killing two birds with one stone, a tactic of extreme cruelty.

Yet, such oppressive Spells were unheard of by Master Ling Yi. Despite all his knowledge of Spells, he could not find a single clue, and the surrounding disciples who had at first gathered eagerly gradually dispersed, leaving only Chang Qing and Chang Yu behind in the end.

In the end, Master Ling Yi could only give up for now, but in order to appease the two, he arranged for their meals before he left.

The night was more than half over, and in the darkness, there remained only the two within the Formation. The golden glow of the protective barrier shone like a transparent hood, with golden threads arching into a circle above. Everyone had departed, and the two Disciples of Qiandao Temple watching over them began to let down their guard, slowly dozing off. Only then did the two exchange a glance, reaching some sort of silent understanding, yet neither of them made a move, instead sitting quietly in their original spots.

"What?" Hearing the news, the Marquis of Zhenbei stood up abruptly from his chair covered with an entire tiger skin, looking at the soldier who had reported it and immediately gestured for him to come closer.

"Are you certain of what you saw?" The Marquis asked again and had his Deputy General bring a bowl of hot tea for the soldier.

"Marquis, I am absolutely certain, it’s the people from Ghoul Ravine. It’s just that, from their appearance, they seem to be two disciples of Ghoul Ravine." They had escorted the disciples of Ghoul Ravine before, so they were somewhat familiar with their looks and stated this with certainty.

"Thanks to the Prince—" The soldier immediately drank the hot tea in one gulp, then respectfully handed the bowl back to the Deputy General. Though not a bit of frost left his body, the soldier’s spirits lifted considerably, further invigorated by the Marquis’s concern.

The Marquis did not respond but instead pondered the sudden news. What was Ghoul Ravine up to? What was their aim in doing this now?

The Deputy General stood nearby, not daring to speak out of turn, aware of the importance of the situation. A trusted aide beside him seemed to want to speak but hesitated, as he had thought of something and yet wasn’t sure whether to voice it, knowing that a single wrong word at such a time could lead to different outcomes.

"Do you have any thoughts?" the Marquis turned to his trusted aide, who paused slightly.

"Marquis, perhaps we should go take a look ourselves," the trusted aide suggested.

Marquis of Zhenbei pondered for a moment, then nodded. Indeed, only a personal visit could put his mind at ease.

Without delay, the Marquis of Zhenbei gathered a few of his trusted aides and set out immediately towards the direction of the border checkpoint.

What on earth had happened to make those people, typically hidden within Ghoul Ravine, suddenly show themselves? It must be something serious. This single thought occupied the mind of the Marquis of Zhenbei. However, his heart was already in turmoil, and subconsciously, he sensed that momentous events were about to unfold.

The dim candlelight reflected the rare, clear night in Nanzheng. Qiandao Temple was as tranquil and peaceful as ever. Since the start of winter, Qiandao Temple had closed its mountain gates to pilgrims, and now found itself enveloped amidst a sea of golden ginkgo trees, the ground covered in a blanket of gold.

Master Yu Sheng, accompanied by several direct disciples of his masters, stood outside the closed doors of Master Huo Yi’s retreat. Even though it was midnight, nearly a hundred candles lit up the courtyard, making it as bright as day.

At midnight, the great doors slowly opened. Master Yu Sheng and the others, who had been kneeling on the ground, straightened their bodies and looked toward the doorway.

"Master—"

"Master—" they called respectfully, following with prostrations. As the doors opened slowly, a strikingly tall figure took leisurely steps out, wearing robes of moon-white that almost blended with the moonlight, casting a cool radiance.

"No need to keep watch, you all may return—" Master Huo Yi, looking at his disciples kneeling on the ground, waved his hand, his words gentle yet tinged with a trace of coolness.

"Yes—" the disciples responded in unison. Master Yu Sheng rose to his feet, picked up a lantern, and walked over to Master Huo Yi. Master Huo Yi did not stop, heading straight towards the inside of the residence.

"Is there anything urgent?" Master Huo Yi asked.

"Nothing in particular, just that this disciple is somewhat concerned for Junior Brother Ling Yi’s safety," replied Master Yu Sheng, looking down at the path, not raising his head as he spoke. He had not received any ominous news, but he was worried.

Master Huo Yi glanced at Master Yu Sheng and walked into the room. Seeing the young man stop and prepare to leave, he gestured for him to come closer.

"Come here—" Master Huo Yi called out, as there were some things that perhaps he should let him know.

Master Yu Sheng was slightly startled and somewhat surprised, but he promptly followed into the inner chamber. Inside, he saw Master Huo Yi pull out a neatly arranged wooden slip from a stack and hand it to the young man in front of him.

Master Yu Sheng, not understanding, took the wooden slip and upon seeing its content, his face instantly registered shock. He did not grasp the meaning; however, he noticed his master’s still-calm gaze.

"Master, what does this mean?" Master Yu Sheng was unable to maintain his usual composure. The signs were ominous—could it mean that Junior Brother Ling Yi was in danger?

"Not danger, but this master did not prepare for their return," Master Huo Yi said.

Master Yu Sheng looked incredulously at his master. What did his master’s words mean? Why would his master give up on Junior Brother Ling Yi and all the other mages of Qiandao Temple? What exactly was his master planning?
