Reborn as the Villain's Wife, I Shine in 80s-Chapter 142 - 138 Conquer Qianqian
Chapter 142: 138 Conquer Qianqian
Although the reason was rather far-fetched, Tian Sangsang couldn’t find a way to refuse since it was phrased like that.
"If you make an advance reservation, you’ll need to pay a one-yuan deposit. What time tomorrow?"
"The deposit is no problem." Yao Fangfang took out the money. "You must deliver it before lunch tomorrow."
Tian Sangsang looked up at her. "Alright, just wait at home then."
"Okay, okay, I promise I won’t go anywhere." Yao Fangfang’s almond-shaped eyes sparkled with a smile, and she left, satisfied.
When she sat in the passenger seat, Chen Ming sighed helplessly, "Why do I run into her every single day?"
Tian Sangsang simply smiled without a word. Even the fiercest man can’t handle an overly clingy woman.
Could it be that Yao Fangfang went through all this effort just to see Chen Ming’s face? That would be going too far, and actually doesn’t make a lot of sense. What was her real purpose?
The next day, after dealing with the early morning rush, the streets gradually emptied. Tian Sangsang packed three pounds of braised food, settled Meng Shuyan at home, and went out alone. Yao Fangfang’s house—or rather, Xu Yiyuan’s house—was not far from there. If she delivered the food quickly, she could return in just a few minutes.
After calling out a couple of times, Yao Fangfang opened the door warmly, "You’re here!" She took the braised food.
Tian Sangsang stood at the entrance.
Yao Fangfang chuckled and said, "I don’t have money on me right now. I’ll go inside to get it. Why don’t you come in with me? It might take me a while to find it."
"No need, I’ll stand here," Tian Sangsang said, unable to handle her sudden change in attitude.
"The sun is scorching hot. If you keep standing outside, you’ll end up looking even darker. Women should pay more attention to that."
Tian Sangsang gave her a speechless glance and followed her into the yard. But she didn’t enter the house, staying instead at the doorway.
Soon enough, Yao Fangfang handed her the money and stuffed it into her hand. She looked her over twice, then said in a strange tone, "I just remembered I have to go to my uncle’s factory. Could you watch Qianqian for a little while? She’s very easy to take care of. Stay here, and I’ll be back soon. Before I return, you’re in charge of Qianqian!"
"..." Tian Sangsang didn’t even have time to respond before Yao Fangfang had run off ahead, flashing a bright smile back at her.
For some reason, that smile stung.
"Yao Fangfang..." Tian Sangsang chased after her but found no trace of her. Sure enough, every encounter with Yao Fangfang came with its share of unfavorable surprises; this time, it was clearly premeditated.
Though she wanted to leave, she couldn’t help but think of little Xu Xixi—still so young—and alone in the house...
She sighed in defeat and proceeded inside Yao Fangfang’s home.
Sitting on a chair, Xu Xixi’s eyes lit up as she heard the sound of someone entering, "Auntie?"
But her expression soon dimmed. She jumped off the chair and muttered, "You... black... why is it you? Where’s my auntie?"
The little girl panicked, rushing around in search of her aunt.
Tian Sangsang had never been able to resist adorable children. Now that she saw Xu Xixi, dressed in an energetic orange puff dress paired with a white vest, her round face and large eyes were simply too cute to ignore.
"Qianqian, Qianqian," she said softly, "Your aunt went out. Can you stay home alone? Is that okay?"
"No! I don’t want you in my house. Go away! Leave immediately!" Xu Xixi blurted out fluently, then suddenly ran to the door, crying, "I want to find Auntie! Auntie..."
Auntie had warned her that while she could eat things from the black-clad lady, she mustn’t stay close to her, or else she’d end up covered in black too.
"Qianqian," Tian Sangsang didn’t expect such a dramatic reaction and was taken aback. She quickly wrapped her arms around the struggling little girl’s body, "Where are you going? There are bad people outside. Stay at home, okay? Your auntie just went to her uncle’s factory and will be back soon."
"You’re the bad person!" Xu Xixi glared at her with almond-shaped eyes filled with contempt, flailing her small hands in protest.
"Waa... Waa... I want Auntie... I want Daddy... I want Grandma... You’re a bad person..." Unable to escape, Xu Xixi began to bawl, huge tears rolling down her soft, pale cheeks.
"Qianqian..." Tian Sangsang could sense the child’s rejection of her and felt a pang of heartache. She gently wiped away her tears, "Auntie isn’t a bad person. Let’s not cry, okay? If you keep crying, you’ll turn ugly. What do you want to do? Auntie will keep you company as long as you stay inside the house. It’s dangerous outside."
But Xu Xixi kept crying, nestled in her arms fragrant with the scent of flowers.
"Ah, look!" Tian Sangsang exclaimed suddenly, staring at her, "Qianqian, you really are turning ugly from crying! Your eyebrows are crooked now."
Xu Xixi paused for a second and tearfully retorted, "They’re not crooked!"
"Oh no, oh no, now your nose is crooked too. And your mouth—it’s crooked like a rabbit’s lip..."
Xu Xixi choked back another sob before halting altogether. The little girl seemed startled; perhaps her strong expression had successfully tricked her.
She reached out and nervously touched her eyebrows, pouting, "You’re lying."
"I’m not lying. Check the mirror if you don’t believe me."
Xu Xixi hesitated, trying to gauge the reliability of her words.
Tian Sangsang quickly grabbed a mirror and held it up for her. Xu Xixi widened her bright almond-shaped eyes and examined herself earnestly. After a thorough look, she puffed up her cheeks and said angrily, "You’re just lying. My eyebrows aren’t crooked, my nose isn’t crooked, and my mouth isn’t crooked either."
"I wasn’t lying! You see, you were crying earlier, so you turned ugly. Now that you’ve stopped crying, you look pretty again." Squatting down behind her, Tian Sangsang smiled into the mirror, "Look, little Qianqian is so beautiful now, like a little fairy. Isn’t it true?"
Looking at her comical reflection and hearing her sincere praise, Xu Xixi’s lips curved slightly upward. She corrected her tightly, "Not a little fairy, but the Chang’e Fairy, the one who lives on the moon."
"Ah... so Qianqian likes the Chang’e Fairy, huh?"
Xu Xixi shook her head in defiance, "No, it’s the rabbit that the Chang’e Fairy keeps."
"The rabbit kept by... the Chang’e Fairy, huh." Tian Sangsang echoed deliberately in a slow, teasing tone.
"It’s a rabbit." Xu Xixi giggled at her antics, "Say ’rabbit,’ not ’bunny.’ My dad told me that."
"You’ve finally smiled!" Tian Sangsang reached out and gently pinched her cheek, leaving Xu Xixi wide-eyed with surprise.
Holding her hands behind her back, Tian Sangsang smiled brightly, "Since Qianqian likes bunnies, Auntie will give you lots of bunnies as gifts."
"You’re lying, you’re lying." Xu Xixi pouted but couldn’t help giggling, "You don’t have any bunnies... or rabbits."
"Then what’s this?" Tian Sangsang opened her hands, revealing bunny-shaped gummy candies and bunny-shaped cookies she had conjured from her storage space. She found a bowl from Xu Xixi’s home and filled it up with them.
Little Xu Xixi let out a cry of amazement, staring in disbelief at the adorable treats in front of her.
