Reborn: Earth Online-Chapter 33: It's payback time
Chapter 33: It's payback time
The sky was still bright and the sun had only begun to go down. Thanks to this, Kaden forgot something important. The time shift that happened on the new earth.
In the new world, every day had 48 hours. This would be a drastic shift to the body so the time would be slowly adjusted in the next ten days and the eleventh day would have 48 hours.
This meant that the first day only had 26 hours or so and Kaden was currently in the last few hours.
"No pressure," Kaden cursed under his breath, snapping the map shut and pushing himself upright despite the sharp protest from his leg. The pain was manageable for now, and it would slowly disappear. That was not the problem.

The problem was he needed kills and he needed them now. To make matters worse, he was in a deserted border area and he was drained both mentally and physically.
There was no way he was going to go from level 15 to level 25 in just these four hours in his current condition. He would be failing pathetically in the first goal he had set for himself.
This would only snowball and he was basically setting himself up for failing in the next step and the next step and then inevitably he would end up in the same hell hole all over again.
The image of the slender woman's face flitted across his mind again, further pushing him into a depressed mind state.
"Focus, Kaden," he hissed under his breath, forcing himself to snap out of it. That stupid skill had truly fucked him over. He thought he had only been in that state for a few minutes. At least that's what he had felt like but the reality was different.
What had happened had happened. He needed to move on. Make new plans. This was not the time to give up.
His gaze shifted to the vultures circling in the sky and then the wounded beast lying on the forest ground a few feet away from him.
He couldn't see it clearly from where he was standing but just from the outline, it was some sort of a black-colored beast. Maybe a panther or a tiger or perhaps an overgrown cat. It had to be a quasi-core beast.
Could he somehow dart past the border and kill that thing?
Maybe doable but not with the vultures circling in the sky. Before he even got to the beast, he would be torn apart alive. It would be near impossible for him to fight with the vultures for their prey.
Shaking his head in frustration, he turned towards the kobold settlement. That was his other option. If he could somehow get rid of the snake, then he could gain a few levels. It might even be enough to push him close to 25.
But then again, that too was impossible. There was no way he was going to survive another clash against that damned boil-ridden green snake. It would be suicide.
One green snake had fucked up his last life and ironically another green snake would fuck up this life if he went there again.
He closed his eyes and let out a sigh. Was there no way for him to achieve his goal?
And then it happened.
The ground in front of him fissured without warning and a familiar green head blasted from within it. The snake had popped out of the ground once again!
Kaden's eyes widened. What the hell? How was this here? Wait, did it somehow track me and get here? Or maybe it smelled the blood? Or maybe it was also here for a share of that dying panther.
He watched as the huge snake fully emerged from the ground on the other side of the barrier.
The vultures were still circling above, their shrill cries echoing through the clearing, and the dying beast lay only a few feet beyond the barrier. Now, the snake added another layer of chaos to the mix, its grotesque form sliding through the dirt with unsettling grace.
Kaden immediately saw a plan play out in his head. "Alright, you ugly bastard," he growled. "It's payback time. Because of you I almost became something else, now you better die!"
He silently waited and the opportunity he sought came soon enough in the next few seconds.
One of the vultures noticed the snake and screeched loudly. The others immediately screeched in response and one after the other the vultures started diving toward the snake. Their sharp cries filled the clearing. They were unwilling to let the snake gobble up their free prey.
Kaden watched the vultures swarm toward the grotesque green snake, their talons flashing in the fading sunlight. The snake hissed violently, coiling its massive body and striking upward at the descending flock.
"This is it," Kaden muttered, focussing inward and commanding his mana. The next second the earth around the green snake started fissuring a little as thick vines erupted.
