Chapter 664: Chapter 664: Her thoughts have already degenerated.

Would a man who was about to sell his own daughter for ten years still be called a father?

Guo Miaomiao had held back her tears all this while, but they started flowing the moment she heard her father, Guo Xinpei, was planning to sell her for ten years. Had her father never regarded her as his daughter?

Guo Xinpei, however, paid no heed to Miaomiao’s emotions. When he learned that Tong Yao was no longer willing to buy another ten years, he reluctantly said, "Even if your shop is closed, you could let her do other jobs. Doesn’t your family still run a Breeding Farm? Let her work there. Regardless, you have to pay someone else to do the work anyway. She may be young, but she’s diligent and capable."

Guo Xinpei thought that since he couldn’t take Miaomiao away, he might as well figure out a way to get some more money. He didn’t want to suffer a loss, he had to take more money back.

Although Deng Qiuxia felt guilty about selling her daughter for ten years to work, she didn’t raise any objections. Her family was not well-off, they had a son at home, and she was about to give birth. Money was needed everywhere.

Without bringing some money back, how would her son be able to afford to marry in the future?

Seeing that Deng Qiuxia remained silent, Miaomiao choked back tears and said, "Mom, do you also agree with dad to sell me for ten years?"

Deng Qiuxia felt guilty under Miaomiao’s gaze and explained, "Miaomiao, don’t blame mom. We have no choice. If we didn’t do this, how would your brother afford to get married? I am about to give birth, and our family needs money everywhere."

Before Miaomiao could speak, she continued, "Last time when your eldest sister went back, she boasted a lot. Now, everyone in the village is laughing at us. Your dad and I have become the laughing stocks of the whole village. If you’re sensible, you should persuade your eldest sister to give us the house and send some money back. Otherwise, your dad and I will starve to death. The money we came to Kyoto with was borrowed."

Hearing all this, Miaomiao felt extremely hurt, "I understand that you favor boys over girls, but am I not also your child? Don’t you care about me at all? If I am sold for ten years, I will be over thirty by then. How am I supposed to live?"

Miaomiao didn’t want to believe her parents didn’t have a shred of affection for her and subconsciously wanted to test them. As long as her parents showed a bit of concern for her, she would give them the money she saved from working and let them use it.

But before Deng Qiuxia could respond, Guo Xinpei interrupted, "When the time comes, can’t you just renew the contract? Living in this big city, having nice food and good accommodation, it’s more comfortable than living in our village. You’re working here and it seems pretty relaxed. You’re neither starving nor freezing. What are you worrying about?"

Hearing this, Miaomiao felt utterly desolate and didn’t want to speak with them anymore.

Tong Yao held Miaomiao’s hand to comfort her, then said to Guo Xinpei, "It’s not impossible to sign for ten years, but we can’t advance the money now. Let’s discuss it after the three-year contract is over! Do you have any other matters? If not, please leave and stop keeping us from doing business."

She was also fed up with talking to Guo Xinpei. This man had the face of a person but the heart of a beast. Not all parents in the world love their children. Guo Xinpei was a clear example.

Yet, Guo Xinpei was relentless, "We’ve come all this way, penniless. If you’re not going to let us take her away, then we have to sign the ten-year contract unless..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Si Chen interrupted, "If you continue to stir up trouble, we will not employ her. Then, you will have to return the more than a thousand yuan from the contract of these three years."

Upon hearing this, Guo Xinpei fell silent instantly. This had to be a joke, if he takes Miaomiao back, the dowry would only be a hundred or so. Where was he going to get a thousand yuan?

Observing his expression, Gu Hongwei added fuel to the fire, "If you can’t pay, you can mortgage your few acres of land to us."

Hearing this, Guo Xinpei was instantly infuriated, "What gives? I never saw that one thousand yuan. Why should I use my land as collateral? If you gave the money to Jinnian, then go and ask her for it."

At these words, a glint flickered in Tong Yao’s eyes and she bluffed, "It was Guo Jinnian who took the money and went abroad. That’s why we wanted to keep this young girl here to work off the debt. Otherwise, why would we sign a contract for three years? We originally wanted to go to her hometown to find you, but we didn’t expect you to deliver yourself to our doorstep."

Guo Xinpei and Deng Qiuxia were flabbergasted, "What do you mean?"

Tone icy, Tong Yao asked, "What I’m saying isn’t clear to you? We were all deceived by Guo Jinnian. She took the money and went abroad. Now, either your daughter stays and works, either you take your daughter back, or you give us your land and house as compensation."

Listening to Tong Yao’s outrageous lie, Si Chen and Gu Hongwei kept silent. Dealing with an unscrupulous person like Guo Xinpei indeed required one to be even more unscrupulous.

Tong Yao gave Deng Wenwen a glance, who understood immediately. She hurried to Guo Xinpei and Deng Qiuxia and whispered, "Uncle, auntie, haven’t you figured it out yet?"

Guo Xinpei looked blank, "Figured out what?"

Wenwen whispered, "I thought you understood long ago. Sister Jinnian borrowed money from Yaoyao and then went abroad. She never came back or contacted us. This money was most likely spent and she has no intention of repaying it. And so, Tong Yao let Miaomiao work here to pay off Jinnian’s debt. If you continue to cause a ruckus and they no longer want Miaomiao to work off the debt, but instead employ a lawyer to sue, your house and land will have to be compensation."

Wenwen’s serious tone terrified both Guo Xinpei and Deng Qiuxia.

Guo Xinpei instinctively replied, "But it was Guo Jinnian who borrowed the money. I haven’t seen a penny."

Wenwen explained, "But you are her father. They are rich and have formidable lawyers. You, ordinary folks, cannot compete with them. If you want to keep stirring things up, go ahead. I won’t intervene when it becomes a legal issue."

Upon hearing this, Guo Xinpei began to panic and Deng Qiuxia also felt at a loss.

After so many years of rural life, her mind had become regressive.

Neither of them was educated and they became somewhat fearful when they were intimidated like this. They were worried that their land would be taken away. After all, they depended on this land for their livelihood.

Deng Qiuxia nervously advised Guo Xinpei, "Let’s leave! I don’t think we can provoke them. We can’t afford to offend them."

In her eyes, Guo Jinnian was fully capable of doing what Tong Yao described. After all, her sister had essentially tricked Miaomiao out to sell her. They wouldn’t be able to take Miaomiao away without money.

If Tong Yao insists on compensation, they wouldn’t be able to afford it.

Guo Xinpei also felt like retreating now. But the thought of coming here for nothing, not to mention the transportation cost, made him unwilling.
