Chapter 669: Chapter 669: Discussing a Picnic

Han Enzhen rolled her eyes, "Who wants your ride, I can take a cab home myself."

Fu Sen grabbed her wrist, looking very serious, "Enzhen, I know you’re still bitter about my cold-heartedness. I was slow to realize my feelings for you. Even if you don’t like me, treat me as an ordinary suitor, is that okay? I just want to take you home."

Han Enzhen was taken aback by Fu Sen’s sudden solemnity. She shook off his hand and grumbled, "Fine, give me a ride. But why are you still holding my hand? Which suitor would just grab a girl’s hand without her consent? You’re such an old lecher."

For some reason, she couldn’t muster up the will to reject him when she saw his expression just now. But shortly after she agreed for him to give her a ride home, she immediately regretted it.

She quickly added, "Let me be clear, I’m only agreeing to let you take me home, that doesn’t mean I’m accepting your pursuits. I’m just tired and want to get home to rest."

Fu Sen’s eyes twinkled with amusement. "I understand. You’re just tired. Let’s go, my car is just up ahead."

Han Enzhen followed behind Fu Sen awkwardly. Suddenly, she found that being with him wasn’t so bad ‒ aside from his former stone-hearted demeanor, everything else about him was pretty good.

No, how could she have become soft-hearted?

This old man barely paid any attention to her back in the day, even complained about her being too clingy. She lacked independence, he said. Not anymore, she wouldn’t allow herself to become soft-hearted. She wasn’t the naive girl she used to be.

Han Enzhen reinforced the wall she was building in her heart, determined not to let Fu Sen break through.

Meanwhile, Tong Yao and Si Chen had finished saying goodbye to all their guests. Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun were left to deal with the aftermath at the hotel. Tong Yao, Si Chen, and Si Boyi were driven home, where Si Chen politely invited Cheng Feng up for a cup of tea. They were surprised when he unexpectedly agreed.

All their guests having left, Si Boyi and Zhang Lijuan took their children into the bedroom to rest. Qin Xiaoshuang returned to her room as well.

Tong Yao and Si Chen stayed in the room to feed their baby while Guo Jinnian and Gu Hongwei chatted with Cheng Feng and Wang Chun. Sister Zheng served tea to everyone to enjoy.

Wang Chun admired the painting on the wall and then looked at the signature. She asked curiously, "Is this painting by the Miss Han Enzhen we met at dinner? It’s really beautiful."

Guo Jinnian nodded. "That’s right, she did it. She’s traveling around the country participating in various exhibitions right now. I don’t really understand art, but I think she’s very talented."

Wang Chun gazed at the painting. "It’s very atmospheric. She’s really talented. This painting might be worth a lot someday."

As Han Enzhen’s reputation rises, so too will the value of her artworks. Wang Chun’s words were a testament to her talent.

Guo Jinnian’s eyes lit up as if he’d discovered a way to get rich quick. He said eagerly, "I’d better get a painting from her too. Who knows, it may end up being an heirloom for my home."

This comment set everyone laughing.

Cheng Feng looked at Wang Chun curiously. "Miss Wang, do you also like oil paintings?"

This was the first time Cheng Feng had spoken directly to Wang Chun. Hearing his voice, Wang Chun turned to look at him and smiled. "Yes, I’ve liked them since childhood. But because of some things, I stopped being involved. I plan on resuming painting now, but I’m not very talented at it. It’s just a hobby for me; I don’t expect to create any great works."

Although Wang Chun was currently unemployed, she was far from poor. Among today’s young people, she was considered wealthy.

Even Cheng Feng didn’t own as many properties as her. Since she was not skilled at managing them, she let her relatives handle everything. Every year, the money transferred to her account was more than enough to last her several lifetimes as long as she didn’t make extravagant purchases.

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call Wang Chun a wealthy lady.

She could afford to pursue painting as a hobby now.

Before Cheng Feng could respond, Guo Jinnian said, "Achun, you’re already amazing. I’ve never even held a brush, let alone drawn anything. You should give me one of your paintings too! I’d hang it in the living room. It might become a family heirloom."

Wang Chun chuckled softly, "If you don’t mind my lack of skill, how about this? We go for outdoor sketching tomorrow, and I’ll paint one for you."

Wang Chun quite enjoyed chatting with Guo Jinnian. She found Guo to be straightforward and refreshing, a rare quality among young women.

Guo Jinnian nodded repeatedly, "Deal! We’ll set off tomorrow morning. Should I bring anything?"

Wang Chun put some thought into it then said, "The painting might take several hours, which may bore you. How about you bring something to eat or something to kill time with?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Cheng Feng stepped in, "I’m free tomorrow too. Where are you planning to paint? I could give you a ride."

Upon hearing his offer, Gu Hongwei cast Cheng Feng a glance. Cheng Feng wasn’t the type to have spare time. Today, he offered to drive her back, and tomorrow, he offered to drive the ladies to paint. Whose attention was he trying to catch?

Gu Hongwei looked between Wang Chun and Guo Jinnian, trying to figure out who Cheng Feng was interested in.

Wang Chun was about to decline, not wanting to impose on anyone. But before she could say anything, Guo Jinnian agreed for her, "That sounds great! If you’re not busy, we could all go out and appreciate the landscape."

Then, she turned to Gu Hongwei, "Hongwei, you don’t have anything to do tomorrow either, do you? Want to come along? I’ve been in Kyoto for a while, but I’ve only been hanging out in the city and haven’t really done any sightseeing."

Upon hearing this, Gu Hongwei nodded, "I don’t have anything to do tomorrow, let’s all go together! Maybe we could even invite the Boyis and Xiaoshuang."

Agreement was quickly reached among the group. When Tong Yao came out of the room, she heard them discussing the outing and asked curiously, "Where are you planning to go tomorrow?"

When Guo Jinnian explained their plans for the next day, Tong Yao thought it was a good idea. "I was just wondering where to take the Boyis since they’re rarely here. It’s great that you’re taking them out tomorrow. Don’t forget to pack snacks and fruits so nobody goes hungry."

Guo Jinnian nodded enthusiastically, "Just snacks wouldn’t be enough. We need to bring roasted duck and braised beef too. I always crave meat these days. The food overseas is horrible. I think our food here is far better."

Living abroad for some time, Guo Jinnian missed the domestic food the most. Every mealtime, she complained no end about the foreign cuisine, insisting that it was unfit for human consumption.
