Chapter 686: Chapter 686: Appendicitis

After eating, Jian Jun accompanied Guo Miaomiao downstairs.

Not sure whether it was because he’d eaten too much, but Guo Jinnian felt uncomfortable in his stomach. He initially wanted to bear the discomfort, but the pain only got worse.

Seeing her sitting on the couch, drenched in a cold sweat, Tong Yao knew something was not right. "Jinnian, are you not feeling well?" she asked.

Guo Jinnian took a deep breath and said, "I don’t know what’s going on. My stomach hurts a lot."

On hearing this, Sister Zheng, who had just emerged from the kitchen, quickly explained, "The food ingredients I used to cook are all fresh, bought from the vegetable market early in the morning. There’s nothing spoiled."

She indicated that the pain was unlikely to be caused by food poisoning.

Wen Yun handed Tong Yaohui some tea just as she came out and heard Sister Zheng’s words. "What happened? Is someone not feeling well?" she asked worriedly.

Tong Yao wanted to keep Wen Yun from worrying, so she soothed, "Jinnian’s stomach aches, but it shouldn’t be a big deal. I’ll take her to the hospital to check."

Hearing that Guo Jinnian was feeling unwell, Wen Yun hurried over. Seeing her face covered in sweat, she became extremely anxious, "Jinnian is sweating due to the pain, it might be something like appendicitis. I’ll call your dad, you two go to the hospital together. I’ll pick up the kids later after school. Don’t worry."

Guo Jinnian wasn’t the type of girl to overreact. Wen Yun felt terrible seeing her in so much pain but still trying to endure it.

Guo Jinnian quickly waved her off, "No need to call Uncle Tong. Yao and I can go by ourselves. It’s likely not a big deal. I probably just didn’t cover my stomach properly when I was sleeping last night and caught a chill. The problem is not big."

Tong Yao helped Guo Jinnian to stand up, "Mom, I’m taking Jinnian to the hospital now."

Wen Yun also went over to help Guo Jinnian, "I’ll help you carry Jinnian downstairs. Wait, do you have money with you?"

Before Tong Yao could answer, Guo Jinnian responded, "I have the money. I didn’t spend all the money yet that I brought for buying clothes."

Tong Yao also added, "I have money too, don’t worry. Jinnian’s issue shouldn’t be a big deal."

The three of them quickly made it downstairs. Tong Yao fetched a bicycle from the storeroom. Wen Yun suggested, "Why don’t we just take a taxi instead? Is Jinnian able to ride a bike in her current state?"

Tong Yao explained, "We might need to wait ten or so minutes for a taxi here, and the traffic lights will cause more delay. It would be quicker if I bike."

Guo Jinnian assured Wen Yun nonchalantly, "Aunt Wen, don’t worry. I’m not in serious condition. I can ride a bike."

Not wanting to cause anymore delay, Wen Yun helped Guo Jinnian onto the bike. "Take it slow on the road. Be careful."

It was not until they had ridden away that Wen Yun returned upstairs. Tong Yaohui had just come out of the study room. He had heard from Sister Zheng about Guo Jinnian feeling unwell and was about to go down and see her. He asked Wen Yun when he saw her return.

"How’s Jinnian? Why didn’t you call me to come out and go with them? If something happens to Jinnian on the way, how can Yao take care of her on her own?"

Wen Yun answered, "They didn’t want me to get you. They’ve already gone to the hospital on their bike."

Upon hearing that the two had left on a bike, Tong Yaohui’s worries intensified, "How could Jinnian ride a bike while she’s not feeling well?"

After a moment of silence, he contemplated, "It’s inconvenient without a car at home. When our compensation for the housing demolition comes, we should buy Yao a car for transportation! It would make it easier for her to go anywhere she wants. Our family isn’t in a condition where we can’t afford it."

The house he was referring to was left by Tong Yao’s grandparents. It was also nearing its demolition and due to the location and size of the house, combined with the fact that it’s being demolished later than theirs was, the compensation would be several times higher.

Even if they did not work a single day thereafter, the compensation would be enough to sustain a lifestyle for their next three generations.

Wen Yun didn’t object to the idea. They were not going to live for many more years and didn’t have any major expenses. All of this was already meant for Tong Yao.

She wasn’t sure though, "I heard that those whose houses are being demolished will not only receive compensation but are also entitled to receive new houses. Considering the area of our house, we should receive three houses and some cash."

Tong Yaohui nodded, "Even that would be enough to buy a car. We can rent out those houses and collect rent. It can be something Yao can rely on."

After today’s incident, Tong Yaohui felt the need to buy a car more than ever. It would make it much easier to move around when something came up at home.

The previous car was left at the breeding farm for Liu Sanwa’s use. Although Gu Hongwei’s company had allocated many cars, they were all in use by the company.

When Tong Yao and Guo Jinnian arrived at the hospital, Tong Yao initially planned on having her brother-in-law, Si Chen, check on Jinnian. However, Jinnian was reluctant, as she felt it was awkward to be examined by someone she knew. She’d rather see a stranger for the purpose.

So, Tong Yao didn’t force her. She got them into Internal Medicine. After a thorough examination was conducted, to their surprise, Guo Jinnian was actually diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

The doctor administered a dose of painkiller and planned the surgery for the evening.

Sichen, upon receiving the news, also came to check Guo Jinnian’s condition. His diagnosis was the same as the other doctors’. "She has acute appendicitis. It’s not a big issue. A small surgery and a few days of rest will suffice."

Guo Jinnian was extremely frustrated, "Doctor Si, I can’t have the surgery today. Can we do it after I attend Enzhen’s birthday banquet tomorrow?"

Sichen shook his head, "No. Once the effect of the painkiller wears off, you’ll be in agonizing pain and could even faint. You’d better undergo the surgery. Considering your physique, two or three days of rest will have you up and about."

Upon hearing this, Tong Yao quickly suggested, "You should skip the birthday banquet then. I’ll go and tell Enzhen about it tomorrow. We can have a private meal afterward. I’ll deliver the gift you got for Enzhen."

The previous day, Guo Jinnian had bought a pair of gold bracelets for Han Enzhen’s daughter while Tong Yao had bought a longevity lock.

Both of them had the same idea. Since they didn’t know what to buy and Han Enzhen’s family didn’t lack anything, they settled for something practical and valuable.

"Whimper, I’m really upset. I was looking forward to wearing a dress tomorrow. But now I can’t even show my face. How can I live like this? And oh, don’t tell Gu Hongwei. With how I look now, I’m not fit to see anyone." Jinnian was extremely frustrated. She didn’t understand her luck. Why did she have to contract appendicitis, and an acute one at that?

"It’s too late to say that now. I’m already here." Gu Hongwei entered through the door of the ward, his forehead damp with sweat. His hurried stride was evident.

Hearing the voice, Guo Jinnian looked over at Gu Hongwei vigorously and exclaimed, "Who called you here? I’m fine. Why did you rush to the hospital while you’re on duty?"

This was way too quick!

"Uncle Tong called me." Gu Hongwei entered and looked at Guo Jinnian’s haggard face. It stirred feelings of sympathy in him.

He remembered the last time Guo Jinnian got hurt was six years ago.
