Reborn in the 80s, Get Rich by Eating Melons-Chapter 697: Boss Qin
Chapter 697: Chapter 697: Boss Qin
Tong Yue nodded slightly, sat obediently in her seat, and behaved herself, just like Si Yang at her side, who also didn’t fidget.
Looking around, aside from Han Enzhen and Tong Yao, no one else had brought children. In this era, it was rare for anyone attending a high-class banquet to bring their children, fearing that they might misbehave and damage the hosts’ impression of them.
After all, most of them attended this event to network and get familiar with others.
To their surprise, seeing Tong Yao arrive with her children puzzled them. It’s either the person didn’t know the ropes, or they had a close relationship with Han Enzhen or Fu Sen. As they watched Han Enzhen approach Tong Yao several times to chat, they deduced it was the latter.
Some people even recognized that Tong Yao had attended Han Enzhen’s art exhibitions and wedding ceremonies. They speculated about her background but found that no one in the circle of wealthy ladies knew her.
Some people tried to probe Han Enzhen about Tong Yao’s identity, but they only received vague responses that Tong Yao was a good friend of Han Enzhen.
Although they couldn’t work out Tong Yao’s background, they were certain that she had a good relationship with Han Enzhen and knew Fu Sen. Noticing that the hosts were too busy to entertain them, some came up to introduce themselves to Tong Yao and get friendly with her.
Tong Yao, guessing their motives, politely yet distantly responded to them.
Although Si Yang and Tong Yue were young, they too noticed these people intentionally trying to become friendly with Tong Yao, somewhat attempting to ingratiate themselves with her.
When there was a moment of peace, Tong Yue leaned in, whispering to Tong Yao, "Mommy, why do all these people want to curry favor with you? Are we very rich?"
Tong Yue, now five years old, hadn’t visited Hengtong Company, thus she didn’t know her mommy was the largest shareholder. She only knew that their family operated a milk tea shop, her mom was a homemaker, and dad was a doctor.
Si Yang understood more of the situation, but being only several years old, he didn’t quite comprehend the matter of assets.
This was the first time Tong Yue had asked about their financial situation. Si Yang also looked at Tong Yao, seeming eager to know about their family’s wealth too. Tong Yao explained quietly, "We are not super-rich, but we are better off than most people here. However, they’re not approaching me because our family is wealthy, but because of your Aunt Enzhen and Uncle Fu."
Tong Yue was a bit puzzled, "Why don’t they go to Uncle Fu and Aunt Enzhen if they want to ingratiate themselves with them?"
Tong Yao responded with a light chuckle, "Because your Uncle Fu and Aunt Enzhen are pretty busy and don’t have time for them. Besides, with so many people around, it would be too conspicuous to approach Enzhen and Fu Sen directly. It’s less noticeable for them to get close to me. As they don’t recognize me and think our family isn’t rich, they assume that I will be attentive when meeting them."
After Tong Yao explained the intentions of the people approaching her, Guo Miaomiao, who was beside her, was amazed. She had initially thought that they were just being friendly, without realising there were so many nuances involved.
Tong Yue, however, was a bit confused, "Mommy, if our family is rich, why don’t these people know about it? Are we too low-profile?"
Before Tong Yao could respond, Si Yang interjected, "We don’t need to be high-profile, dad is a doctor, and if we flaunt our wealth too much, it wouldn’t be good."
Tong Yao, hearing Si Yang’s response, complimented with a smile, "Yangyang is absolutely right. Our family really doesn’t need to flaunt its wealth. As long as we’re happy spending our money quietly, we don’t need to seek a sense of superiority over others. Also, both of you are still young, in school, and without self-protection capacity. Flaunting wealth too much won’t do you any good. You must remember to not show off your wealth at school. Got it?"
Tong Yue and Si Yang both nodded in agreement. As they had been raised in a stable and modest environment, they hadn’t picked up any bad habits.
Guo Miaomiao couldn’t help but admire Tong Yao’s parenting style. The wealthy Tong family did not spoil their children but set boundaries where necessary. Educating their children to be this obedient and outstanding is indeed rare.
As she was pondering this, she heard footsteps behind her. By the time she turned around, a familiar figure had already taken the seat facing them.
Guo Miaomiao quickly greeted, "Boss Cheng, you came!"
Both Si Yang and Tong Yue also joyfully greeted, "Uncle Cheng."
Cheng Feng laughed, "It’s only been a month or so, and you two have gotten taller already."
Tong Yao, joining in the conversation, laughed, "They have been eating very well recently and have grown quite a bit. Their appetites are so great that it’s catching up to mine. Look at Yueyue; right now, she is still a bit chubby."
Tong Yue, although not as tall as Si Yang, was significantly chubbier. Tong Yao, looking at her, was a bit worried about her weight. But seeing that Si Chen and her parents were not concerned, she didn’t restrict Tong Yue either. The child was growing and needed nutrition, so why not let her eat more!
They could certainly afford it.
Gazing at Tong Yue’s plump little figure, Cheng Feng couldn’t help but laugh, "Yueyue is still growing. It’s fine for her to eat a bit more. She will slim down as she grows taller. Just look at Si Yang, he’s not chubby now that he’s growing taller."
Tong Yue nodded her little head, "Mommy, I think Uncle Cheng makes sense."
Hearing this, everyone present broke into laughter.
Cheng Feng looked around, seeming somewhat disappointed, "Achun didn’t come?"
"Her mother was hospitalized, so she couldn’t come," responded Tong Yao.
Tong Yue, eager to gossip, chimed in, "Uncle Cheng, did you notice that my godmother is also not here? And Uncle Gu isn’t here either."
Hearing this, Cheng Feng let out a chuckle, "I already knew about your godmother being hospitalized. I plan to visit her this afternoon."
No sooner had he finished speaking than an unexpected guest had taken the seat next to him, "Guo Jinnian is hospitalized? What is she suffering from?"
Seeing the new arrival, Cheng Feng replied indifferently, "Appendicitis."
Chen Nanting snorted, "What a coincidence. On the day of Enzhen’s baby’s first-month celebration, she develops appendicitis."
Cheng Feng remained silent. Casting a glance at Tong Yao, Chen Nanting rolled her eyes and then waved her hand at a man striding towards them, "Honey, come sit here."
Qin Hao came over and noticing Chen Nanting sitting next to Cheng Feng, his face fell. It was no secret in their circle that Nanting had once been attracted to Cheng Feng.
Seeing his wife sitting with a man she once admired, Qin Hao couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy.
However, Chen Nanting seemed oblivious to Qin Hao’s discomfort and said, "Honey, let’s sit here! It’s familiar company."
Cheng Feng also politely nodded towards Qin Hao, "Boss Qin."
Although displeased, Qin Hao, considering the public nature of the event, just responded curtly and sat down next to Chen Nanting.
