Chapter 728: Chapter 728: The Beggar Disappeared

The two children were none other than Si Yang and Tong Yue. After picking up the children from school, Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun took them out to stroll the streets.

It just so happened that Tong Yue was craving for a meat bun, but when they got to the store, they saw the owner bullying a beggar.

This upset Tong Yue so she decided to intervene, while Si Yang offered to help buy meat buns.

The store owner, seeing a business opportunity, quickly packed ten meat buns and handed them over to Si Yang.

"Kid, be careful not to drop the meat buns you ordered."

Tong Yaohui came over to pay.

He added sternly, "Don’t be so ruthless in conducting your business."

The store owner, having received the money, gave a dry laugh in return.

Si Yang took the buns over to the beggar and politely said, "Sir, are you hungry? Here are some meat buns for you."

Tong Yue also went up and took out two yuan from her little purse.

"Uncle, here’s money for you."

The beggar, however, just stared at the two children, particularly Tong Yue, without accepting the meat buns and money.

Tong Yue felt uncomfortable under his gaze, "Sir, why are you staring at me like this? Is it because the money is not enough?"

Si Yang instinctively stepped in front of Tong Yue.

Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun also noticed the way he looked at them, and quickly moved the children behind them.

Tong Yaohui took out five yuan, along with a meat bun and handed it to the beggar, saying, "Children don’t know better. Please don’t take their words to heart if they inadvertently offended you. Take this money to get your leg injury checked."

The beggar, with trembling dirty hands, took the money and the bun and then limped away.

After a few steps, he looked back at them.

Wen Yun commented, "That man’s stare was really eerie, as if he had some familiarity with us."

Tong Yaohui suggested, "Perhaps he’s not in his right mind."

He didn’t find the man’s face familiar, nor had he heard of anyone he knew falling into such hard times that they had to beg on the streets.

Tong Yue interjected in her sharp voice, "The poor man is so pitiable. If his mind isn’t right, wouldn’t he be even more likely a victim of bullying? Should we send him to the hospital?"

Si Yang agreed, "I think it’s a good idea."

Upon hearing what the children had to say, Wen Yun and Tong Yaohui hesitated a bit before Tong Yaohui said,

"It’s good that the children are compassionate. Since they’re willing, let’s go the extra mile and help him completely."

Even though Wen Yun agreed, she turned around only to find the beggar gone, she asked, "Where did he go? Why is he not in sight?"

Tong Yaohui also found it peculiar, "Let’s go on and search for him. His leg is injured, he couldn’t have gone far."

Tong Yue ran ahead, looking around the corner but still couldn’t find him. She said disappointedly, "The man is gone."

After surveying the area, Si Yang concluded, "Let’s go home then."

Even though they wanted to help, they had no choice but to leave since they couldn’t find him.

Tong Yue looked around again but still no sign of him, she said dejectedly, "Sigh, seems like things are just going to be like this."

Tong Yaohui patted her on the head, "It’s not that grandpa didn’t try to help you find him, it’s just that he really can’t be found. We really do need to go home."

Tong Yue nodded obediently, "I miss Mommy, let’s hurry home."

Wen Yun laughed, "You’re just full of different thoughts every minute."

Upon arriving home, they found that Tong Yao was watching the news. Tong Yue ran straight into her arms.

"Mommy, today we saw a beggar on the street, his leg was crippled and the bun seller was bullying him. He was so miserable. We wanted to help him but couldn’t find him."

Tong Yao found the person Tong Yue was describing somewhat familiar and asked, "Was he dishevelled with filthy features?

Tong Yaohui was putting away his shoes by the door and overheard their conversation. He asked curiously, "You saw him too?"

Tong Yao nodded, "Yes, I saw him at lunch today. I gave him some money too and told him to go to the hospital."

"Your grandpa and I also gave him money. But it seems he never made it to the hospital," analyzed Si Yang.

Despite his young age, his thoughts were quite logical.

Tong Yue followed suit, "I also think he didn’t go to the hospital, his leg was not bandaged. I think he didn’t want to spend the money on medical treatment."

Wen Yun chimed in, "He seemed to be not in his right mind, he was staring at Yueyue all the time, which was kind of creepy. When you come across people like that next time, be careful. If he is indeed mentally unstable, what if he does something to harm the children?"

Tong Yao, who was initially just curious about the coincidence, was instantly alarmed on hearing about the man’s strange fixation on Tong Yue.

"He was staring at Yueyue?"

"Yes, it scared me. Your dad saw him too. We immediately handed over the buns and the money to him, and then he left," echoed Wen Yun.

Tong Yao fell into deep thought.

Si Yang watched Tong Yao and offered, "Mommy, do you think he kept staring at Yueyue because she resembles you?"

Tong Yao pondered on Si Yang’s words and found them reasonable. She agreed, "That could be true. Now go take a bath and sleep. It’s not early anymore and you’ll find it hard to get up in the morning."

Si Yang nodded, "Yueyue should go wash first, she’s the one who loves to snooze in."

Like Tong Yao, Tong Yue loved to sleep in and needed several wake up calls to get up.

Si Yang, on the other hand, was like his dad, Si Chen, having a precise biological clock and waking up on time every day without needing to be woken up.

Tong Yue grumbled, "That’s because I have a good sleep habit. Daddy said that children need plenty of sleep to grow up healthy."

Tong Yao laughed at her words and gave her a playful tap on the head, "Alright, then hurry up and take a bath."

Wen Yun laughingly dragged her out of Tong Yao’s arms to take a bath.

Tong Yao pulled Si Yang into her arms and gave him a hug. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

"Yangyang, even though you are mature for your age, you still need to be aware of your safety. Some evil people are unpredictable and may try different means to approach you. So, you must always be on guard, alright?"

Si Yang nodded, "Don’t worry, Mommy, I will be careful."

Tong Yao ruffled his hair, "You are such a good boy, Yangyang. Your sister often doesn’t listen when I advise her, so I have to keep reminding you."

Although Tong Yue was a tomboy, she was very dependent on her family and never ventured out alone. Si Yang, conversely, was more independent, hence the repeated reminders from Tong Yao.

After the two children finished bathing and fell asleep, Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun turned in early while Tong Yao stayed up waiting for Si Chen to return from work.

Si Chen didn’t return until after nine. Tong Yao had been feeling uneasy about the beggar, so she brought it up to Si Chen.

"Today, I saw a beggar and gave him some money. In the evening, Dad, Mom, Yangyang, and Yueyue also ran into him. He stared at Yueyue for quite some time. I’m wondering, was it because Yueyue and I look alike that he kept staring at her?"
