Reborn in the 80s, Get Rich by Eating Melons-Chapter 733: The Proposal 2
Chapter 733: Chapter 733: The Proposal 2
Tong Yao made a call to Hu Haiyun, which was soon connected. When Hu Haiyun learned the reason for the call, she chuckled joyfully.
"Yaoyao, I’ll be in Kyoto tomorrow morning. I’m currently on the train. Hongwei had reached out to me earlier, saying he wanted to propose to Jinnian and surprise her, so I didn’t call to let you guys know. I thought it’d be a surprise for you too when I arrived. But surprisingly, you were the one who ended up calling me."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao was happy for Guo Jinnian, "It seems like Hongwei has indeed made thoughtful preparations.
"
The two of them had a brief chat before hanging up.
Tong Yao excitedly told Si Chen, "Ahchen, Hongwei is really going the extra mile this time, even arranging for Sister Hu to come over. He always strikes me as a reserved person, so I never expected him to do something this bold. It seems he likes Jinnian more than we thought, and that puts my mind at ease."
Si Chen didn’t seem too surprised, saying, "As long as you consider the other party’s feelings, even the most reserved person will put thought into it. Reserved people might not be good with sweet nothings, but they express their feelings through their actions."
Tong Yao blinked, "Like you?"
Si Chen chuckled lightly, "Both Hongwei and I are not too flamboyant in character, but we do have our differences."
Tong Yao huffed, "Of course I know that. You appear serious and upright on the outside, but in reality, you’re just a big wolf."
The glint in Si Chen’s eyes suddenly flared up.
"Yaoyao, what are you implying? I might get the wrong idea."
Tong Yao’s heart throbbed under his gaze, "What are you thinking? We have to wake up early tomorrow, so don’t cause any trouble."
"I’ll wake you up in the morning." After saying that, Si Chen turned off the light directly.
After some struggle, Tong Yao was so tired that her arm was sore. Before she fell asleep, she thought to herself that she should never underestimate Si Chen.
She assumed that Si Chen was too tired recently to toss and turn for too long. But he ended up being full of energy even when she was exhausted.
In her half-asleep state, she wondered if doctors are prone to baldness because of overwork. She wondered if Si Chen would go bald in the future too.
What would he look like if he went bald?
Si Chen woke Tong Yao up the next morning, already fully dressed and nicely groomed.
"It’s seven o’clock. Get up now, have breakfast, and then go to the company with your parents."
Tong Yao rubbed her eyes and hurriedly prepared to get up, "Seven o’clock? Didn’t you say we need to wake up early? Won’t it be late? It wouldn’t be a good thing if we’re late."
Si Chen said, "Don’t rush, the staff at their company haven’t even arrived at work yet. There’s no use you guys getting there too early. Doesn’t Jinnian always have a problem with sleeping in? She hasn’t even gotten out of bed yet."
Tong Yao thought about it and agreed. She yawned, "Why haven’t you gone to work today?"
Si Chen replied, "It’s not too late to leave now. I’m going to work, remember to eat something."
"Go ahead!" Tong Yao stretched languidly, and the blanket slipped down from her chest. She quickly pulled the blanket up to cover herself.
Seeing Si Chen looking at her, she blushed and said, "Aren’t you going to work? Why aren’t you leaving?"
Si Chen’s eyes were filled with amusement, "I won’t have to work overtime tonight."
Tong Yao deliberately said, "I’ll steep some Goji Berry Tea for you tonight."
The ready-to-leave-for-work Si Chen looked at her again, and teasingly asked, "Weren’t you satisfied last night?"
Tong Yao actually felt eccentric looking at Si Chen’s tidy appearance while she was showing some skin. She joked, "I heard morning times can be interesting too."
Si Chen thought for a moment and suggested, "Hmm, that’s a good proposal. Let’s go to bed early tonight."
It wasn’t until after he’d left for work that Tong Yao realized she’d dug a hole for herself.
She was upset. Si Chen seemed serious on the surface, but in fact...
At least when he was in front of her, he behaved differently from when he was with others, especially when they were alone in the evening.
Tong Yao got up and got ready. At breakfast, Wen Yun and Tong Yaohui had just taken the kids home. When they heard about Gu Hongwei’s proposal, they were even happier than Guo Jinnian.
"Hongwei put his heart into it, we shouldn’t delay matters. Let’s hurry up and get ready to go to the company. We can’t be late."
Wen Yun said, "No need to rush, the short amount of time Yaoyao spends eating won’t make a difference. At your age, you should be more steady. You’re acting like a kid, no wonder people call you an old child."
Tong Yaohui, who was accustomed to Wen Yun’s nagging, didn’t get angry but joked to Tong Yao as follows: "Your mother is becoming more and more nagging. Luckily, it’s only now. If it were during my younger days when I had a temper, we would surely have quarreled. Now that the grandchildren are now grown up, I don’t argue with her and make concessions to her."
Before Tong Yao could even say a word, Wen Yun interjected, "You were not as restless as this when you were young."
She then began to complain to Tong Yao, "Your father was not as popular when he was young. Now that he’s older, he’s quite popular among the old ladies. Some of the grannies, who take their grandchildren to school, are delighted when they see your father. They always greet him from a distance, and once they start talking, it’s non-stop. If I don’t call him to come home, he might just follow them."
It was clear that Wen Yun was a bit jealous, but Tong Yaohui seemed clueless. He said, "You are talking about Granny Xiaoshi, right? Her husband has passed away, and she’s raising two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren on her own. I see her busy every day. I helped her a little bit one day, and she remembered it. So she greets me when she sees me. Surely, it’s not as exaggerated as you make it seem?"
"Exaggerated? Don’t you chat non-stop after you meet? It seems like if I hadn’t called you back, you would have followed her home to help move things."
Tong Yaohui said, "I had already declined before you called me. How could I possibly go to her house? That could easily lead to misunderstandings."
Wen Yun added, "If you had really understood this, you wouldn’t be smiling whenever you saw her."
Tong Yao realized then that her mother was indeed jealous, but her father hadn’t picked up on it yet. She tried to hold back her laughter and reminded him.
"Dad, even though you don’t have any thoughts, you should still be wary. Granny Xiaoshi has not remarried and could use the attention, and you’re a top-notch man in her age group, coming from a wealthy family and looking good. Inevitably, some old ladies might fancy you."
Without thinking, Tong Yaohui replied, "That can’t be. Your mother is much younger and prettier. And besides, I’m not that kind of person."
These words cheered Wen Yun up instantly. She grumbled, "Seems your eyes haven’t gone blind yet. I’m old and there’s nothing I can do about it. But I was pretty decent looking when I was young; look at Yaoyao and you’ll know."
