Reborn on Wedding Night: Flirting the Cold Bigshot into Blushes-Chapter 465: The Troubled Siblings
Nancy Allen was not concerned about the siblings but about Ruby Carter.
Faced with Godfery Shaw’s question, she earnestly said, "I don’t want Ruby to have any trouble."
Godfery didn’t ask further questions.
The two of them drove straight over.
Until they arrived at a small alley, they got out of the car because the car couldn’t go any further; they had to walk in.
Many people lived in the alley, and the idle women sitting at their doorsteps chatting turned their heads as they saw someone arriving and were all stunned.
"Look at those two, they look like movie stars. Could they also be living in our small alley?"
"What are you thinking? With that level of sophistication, you can tell they are from wealthy families."
"They’re truly good-looking. I’ve never seen such beautiful people. Are they a couple? How attractive do you think their children would be?"
These women whispered to each other, but their naturally loud voices made their whispers not so quiet, and Nancy could vaguely hear them.
Nancy suddenly took Godfery Shaw’s hand, walked over to the chatting women, and said with a smile, "You are right, our daughter is indeed very pretty."
Godfery looked at their joined hands in surprise, then tightened his grip after a moment.
The women, seeing these almost celestial figures approaching, became somewhat nervous, having discussed them in whispers earlier.
Nancy didn’t mind at all and smiled warmly as she began to converse, "Are you all living in this area? I’m here to find someone. Do you know Thomas and Ruby Carter? Do you know which building they live in?"
Seeing Nancy being so polite and approachable, the women became enthusiastic.
"Yes, we know them. Young Master Carter and his sister live in the building inside after you take a left."
"Why are you looking for those siblings? Ah, they have had a tough life, working hard to treat the girl’s illness over the years. I’ve heard Thomas works at a big company, but the girl’s illness costs a lot of money. Otherwise, young people wouldn’t choose to live in this old alley."
"Young Master Carter and his sister are truly good people."
Nancy smiled and said, "I’m Ruby’s friend, and I’m here to see her." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Young lady, I think you’re from a wealthy family. If you’re Ruby’s friend, and you’re willing to help, please do. The child is pitiful and sensible."
Nancy nodded, "I will help with anything I can."
The women, seeing Nancy’s good attitude and manner, smiled broadly, their eyes crinkling into crow’s feet.
"You’re such a kind person, good-looking and kind-hearted, you and your husband will be blessed."
Hearing this, Nancy instinctively wanted to let go of Godfery’s hand.
She felt she didn’t deserve blessings; her past and present lives were filled with endless suffering, as if fate would not relent until it crushed her.
Godfery tightened his grip on Nancy’s hand, not letting her pull away, and earnestly said, "Yes, she deserves good fortune. Thank you for showing us the way, we’ll be off then."
This time, whatever happens, he would not allow Nancy to escape.
Even if it means facing something as grave as death, he would accompany her through it.
Godfery held Nancy’s hand and walked towards the direction they were given.
The women’s chatter continued, and the two celestial-like individuals they encountered had obviously become the new topic of conversation.
Godfery and Nancy arrived at the rundown building.
The old alley’s building had only eight floors, and Ruby’s home was on the sixth, without an elevator.
Nancy merely glanced at the floors and then turned her hopeful eyes toward Godfery.
Godfery turned his back to Nancy, bent down, and crouched.
Nancy leaned onto Godfery’s back without hesitation, explaining, "I’m not lazy about walking; it’s just that the stairway is a bit dark."
Godfery amiably responded, "Yes, you’re not being lazy."
Godfery carried Nancy up the stairs, holding two bags of fruit, which they had bought from a fruit stall downstairs after being advised by the women to bring a gift when visiting someone’s home.
Nancy lay softly on Godfery’s back and asked, "Don’t you always tell me to exercise? Why not today?"
"You’ve gotten enough exercise for today."
"Godfery, your back is broad."
"If you wish, I’ll carry you every day."
Every day? She didn’t know how many days she had left.
With no hope in sight, she merely wanted to appear lighthearted, so others wouldn’t feel too burdened by her illness.
They reached the sixth floor.
Godfery crouched down to let Nancy off, went forward, and knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" Thomas Carter’s voice came from inside the room.
"It’s Nancy." Nancy called out from the doorway.
What happened inside was unclear, but there was a distinct sound of a collision.
After a while, Thomas hurriedly came to open the door, "Boss Shaw, madam, why... why are you here?"
Nancy looked into the small one-room house.
She asked, "Where’s Ruby? I came to see her."
James instinctively stood in the doorway, blocking Nancy’s view. "I’m sorry, Ruby is already resting. If you want to see her, maybe next time."
Originally, Nancy just wanted to see if the siblings needed any help.
But Thomas’s reaction, that kind of panic, was clearly visible to the eye; Thomas indeed was an honest person, not good at lying or hiding things.
Godfery and Nancy exchanged a glance.
There’s something wrong with those siblings.
Nancy’s expression turned calm, "Aren’t you inviting us to sit inside?"
Thomas nervously said, "My house is small and quite messy."
The more Thomas refused to let them in, the more Nancy felt something was wrong.
Recognizing Nancy’s concern, Godfery directly carried the fruit inside.
Thomas dared not stop Godfery, and Nancy followed in.
The two of them surveyed the tiny room, in which the couch had been turned into a bed, leaving no place to sit.
Thomas quickly fetched two small stools, his face flushed as he explained, "To save money, I only rented this small room. Ruby sleeps in the bedroom, and I sleep on the couch. I didn’t intend for Boss Shaw and madam to see this; I’ve embarrassed myself in front of you."
Nancy earnestly said, "The room is very tidy and clean."
For the next ten minutes or so, Thomas kept trying to persuade Nancy and Godfery to leave.
But Nancy and Godfery remained seated as steady as a mountain, chatting and observing without any mention of leaving.
Just as Thomas became increasingly nervous, a sound came from that single bedroom.
Nancy looked toward the closed door and naturally said, "It seems Ruby is awake. Since she’s awake, I’ll go see her."
Thomas immediately tried to stop her, "Wait, madam, Ruby... she doesn’t want to see anyone."
