Chapter 1119: Too sweet

A few days later.

Though the idea of a wedding sparked everybody’s spirits and sprung the elders into action, Jin was quick to hold their horses. The reason was a conversation between Jin and Alix that occurred soon after they had returned from their trip.

"I will have to take the Teacher Qualification Exam. That’s what Miss. Xie said."

Jin brightened. "So you have decided you wanna be an elementary school teacher?"

She nodded. "There’s also an option to become a university professor but...I think I want to teach children. It might not sound lucrative than being a professor-"

"What are you saying?" He frowned and pinched her nose. "Of course, teachers are super important whether they teach college brats or school brats. The important thing here is what you truly want to do. Nothing is more or less lucrative than the other."

"You really think so?"

He smiled. "Will I lie to you?" He then pulled her towards him and hugged her waist. "But I’m curious. Do you have any particular reason for wanting to teach elementary grade students?"

She paused for a moment. "They are cute."

"I don’t think that’s your only reason for choosing your career path," his brow twitched.

"It’s nothing fancy really..." her gaze slightly changed.

"I just thought...children are very impressionable. What they think and feel at that age becomes a very strong basis for what they will think and feel tomorrow. Then I began to wonder if I had somebody to guide my brainwashed mindset when I was young, then the past life...wouldn’t have been so tragic," her voice tapered off at the end.

Her eyes automatically lowered at the mention of the past as a hint of guilt flickered. He lifted her chin back and pinched it.

"You are doing the right thing, that’s why I don’t want to see your sorrowful eyes. I’m proud of you."

To keep the past close to your heart but instead of drowning in regret, to let it guide towards you a positive answer wasn’t something everybody could do. She had carried revenge in her heart for long, long years. She had basically lost her childhood and youth in hatred and didn’t want anymore children to embrace the same path she had walked once upon - which was also why mental health counseling was a great focus at the time she had organized the health fair in Ailun’s school.

Watching genuine pride and warmth shine in his handsome expression made her heart feel ticklish.

"Thank you," she tiptoed and pecked his cheek.

He grinned and dropped a fluttery kiss on her forehead.

"So, so! Will you take Aunt Xie’s help for your exam preparation?"

She nodded. "That’s my plan."

"Hehe, my wife will pass with flying colors!"

Alix cocked her brow up. *You are so confident?"

His nostrils flared. "Of course! You are the smartest. I don’t think the studying part will be so difficult for you."

She slightly tipped her head to the side. "We’ll have to plan our wedding and my study schedule."

He blinked twice. "What’s there to plan about it? You don’t have to worry about the wedding. You just focus on your study preparations," he sincerely nodded.

She blinked next. "How will the wedding be planned without the bride’s participation?"

"Because the wedding will be after you register with the Education board when you get your Teacher’s certificate," he tilted his head.

Her eyes widened at that. "What? The study preparation for the exam and all will take about three months. Once I clear that, I’ll have to go through the teacher training program which could take another six months and only THEN, I would be registered with the board. That’s like nine to ten months or even up to a year from start to finish."

He nodded.

"Don’t just nod your head," she grimaced. "Why would you wait for so long?"

"Because it will be very hectic for you. Trust me, wedding preparations are no joke. I have seen my sister and my sister-in-law’s weddings. Sure, there’s help but still. Amidst all that, you’d be very tired to focus on your studies and I don’t want you to exhaust yourself. There’s really no need to juggle everything at once. The important thing is that we are married. Wedding, we can plan at our own pace at anytime~"

"...But you asked for it so..."

"Yes, I just wanted to know if you were okay with a wedding. I didn’t mean it should be immediate."

Alix stared at him with squinted eyes.

"W-What?" He sweated slightly. "Did I say something wrong?"

She tiptoed again and this time, kissed his lips. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed harder until her cheeks flushed red with warmth.

Jin, now on cloud nine, kissed her back with the same fervor, mixing their breaths with the rhythm of their heartbeats.

As they parted, Alix watched him silently for a long moment.

"You are too much of a good husband. To wait till I would be settled in my career is holding too much of patience. You are too sweet. I don’t like it."

"..."

"You want me to be bitter?"

"For starters your lips aren’t, which is just perfect. I like your sweet lips."

He choked.

"The problem is your doting personality," she frowned.

"It’s called being supportive. And well yes doting too," he grinned. "And why not? Aren’t you my lovely and beautiful wife?"

She looked away. This particular odd feeling bubbling in her chest was hard to decipher. Yet she liked this feeling. She wanted it to tickle her more.

She looked back at him. "Waiting till my certificate is too much of a long wait and I don’t want that. How about we plan our wedding after my exam?"

She figured three months wasn’t too bad.

He pursed his lips. "But then the training will start and-"

"That’s not a big deal really. It wouldn’t be tiring. Passing the exam is good enough."

"Are you sure?"

She raised her brow. "You are not the only one who wants to see his bride in a wedding attire."

Ahhhh...

His head dropped on her shoulder. "Do-Don’t sweep me off my feet like that. My heart cannot take it...!"

"..."
