Chapter 1147: Hot mocha

Ahhhh!

Shui collapsed on the couch with the loss of her back-to-back defeats, whereas Lin held perfect records. Her teeth gritted with annoyance.

Usually, she wasn’t the kind of a person to get petty about things like wins and losses in games but the situation with Lin felt completely different. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

The entire saga of the past life started with Yahui and Lin’s involvement in their life and as much as she knew that Lin wasn’t a really bad guy at heart, she just couldn’t swallow the bitterness.

Then there was Yuze’s confession to her which was putting her in a conundrum. He was a decent guy and seemed genuine about his feelings. Shui thought that this could be destiny’s way of helping her move on.

But something in her heart didn’t feel right. Starting a relationship immediately after being left broken by Jin’s rejection felt she would be using his feelings to get over him, which she absolutely didn’t want.

"Why are things so complicated...?" She muttered to herself.

She pinched the space between her brows and didn’t realize when her eyelids felt heavy and she fell asleep.

When she woke up, she realized to her embarrassment that she ended up taking a good dreamy nap in the arcade right in front of other people playing a plethora of games.

Ugh, this is awkward...

As she moved, something dropped and she saw that it was a fluffy shawl that slipped off her shoulders. Her brows knitted.

This isn’t my shawl.

Then she found a cup of mocha coffee placed on the table with a pretty panda pattern drawn with the whipped cream.

"Hey, that’s cute."

"Oh Mam, that coffee is for you. Please do have it," one of the arcade assistants said who was passing by.

"For me? Like complementary?"

"Oh, no. Somebody made it for you. He said you will enjoy it."

She blinked, surprised. "Who was it?"

"Oh that man with the perfect bowling score!"

Her eyes widened.

Huh? Lin made this coffee for me?

"Did he say something why he..."

The assistant blinked. "I assume you know each other? It certainly felt that way when he prepared coffee for you."

"But where did he make it...? Like this is the arcade and he is a customer here..."

"Oh he asked for special permission to use the kitchen," he smiled. "He said he ran a cafe himself. He made coffee for all of us staff too as a way to thank us for letting him use the kitchen. I’m saying this with experience. That coffee is delicious. Let me know if you need something else."

With that said, he left her alone to herself, yet Shui a lot of questions remained puzzling to her.

Strange...

She held the coffee mug and took a sip. Her eyes pleasantly widened with surprise. The layer of chocolate smoothly combined with the shot of espresso that settled with a perfect sip of the sweetness of the chocolate with bitterness of the coffee beans. But there was an extra zing somewhere in the coffee that felt slightly spicy. Not too spicy to overpower the actual mocha taste but strong enough to leave a distinct sensation.

What is it? Cardamom? Cloves? I never thought spice could go so well with coffee...

She sipped some more and found the taste to be very appealing.

Bro Nian would really come to like it I guess...

She rested her head on the back of the couch and exhaled in silence as the arcade music faded in the background.

Well, he makes some nice coffee.

When Lin was dragged back into custody because apparently, he had broken some parole rules, Shui had initially felt like she would be happy. It was just a regular day of her going to the office when she found his younger brother, Hou Cai, walking like a zombie.

She wanted to stay out of it, but she remembered his cup of coffee. Then she remembered how it was Jun’s decision to agree for his parole.

She felt it would be an insult to his carefully thought out decision if she let things be as they were but to her surprise, Lin turned out to be more of a stubborn man. He could have easily taken Jun’s help and got himself out, but he had refused. Cai, on his own, would be unable to help his brother too.

So if he doesn’t take Jun’s help, then what are his chances? Jail and this stuff gets messy...

Without connections, he could practically say goodbye to his new found life of freedom.

Shui had returned home that evening tired. But her fatigue flew away when she was welcomed by her adorable nephew, Muyang.

"Baaaaa...."

Muyang pressed his little palms against her cheeks and lips and giggled. Shui instantly felt healed.

Ah...what is with babies and recovery? Are they magicians?

"You look tired!" Nuo gasped. "How many times do I have to scold you to shed off your workaholic self? You will become invisible at this point!"

"Trust me, sis. I’m barely getting any work done. I’m just pretty much wasting my time in the office. It’s so hard to get the next idea. Hehe, should I draw my little Muyang?" She tickled him.

Muyang beamed as if he understood he would be the next star of her painting and his little face sparkled.

Ah, why is he so cute?

Nuo patted her head. "You shouldn’t force yourself. Just take this as a good break."

As Jin’s sister and Shui’s sister-in-law, Nuo felt torn apart too. On one hand, she wanted to pinch her brother’s ears for hurting Shui but on other hand, she knew that a forced relationship would have only hurt them further. Maybe even beyond repair.

It was best to draw the line from where it was still possible to gather yourself together.

She stepped out, bathed after a fresh shower but her mind was still restless. Something felt really off about this whole drug dealer thing and any more delay would only tighten the noose around Lin’s neck further and further.

Ugh! Why are men so stubborn! First Jin and then Lin!

She grabbed her phone and typed a message.

’I will drop by your home tomorrow to meet Uncle Yunru. Be there.’
