Reborn: The Return of the Villainous Mr. Liu-Chapter 1166: Livelier
Ahh, I’m still not able to think of a concept!
Shui was rolling on the bed the next day, feeling her lose her creative spark. She tried all sorts of concepts but nothing really sank in to give that excitement.
If I cannot feel anything myself, then how will I make Mr. Zhong feel anything?
"Hey, Shui!"
She turned. "Grandpa."
Han Tian coughed. "Will you be visiting Hou Lin’s cafe today?"
She blinked. "Probably. I want his opinion on some of my ideas anyway."
"I see. Will you bring some sandwiches while you return?"
"Sandwiches? Oh! The ones he made for us that day?"
"Yes," he coughed. "I really liked those. This is embarrassing but the taste reminded me of a very popular eatery that was there outside our college campus back in the day. Sihan and I used to frequent it a lot."
"Oh."
"Yeah. When I had the sandwiches, they strangely reminded me of my old times," he warmly said. "The eatery is not there anymore, but I still remember the owner. I had actually wanted to mention this to him yesterday in the hospital, but I forgot."
Huh...
Shui jumped from her bed. "Cool! Will bring some from everybody!"
He shone. "You are the best. By the way.."
He cleared his throat. "Is that bastard still alive or has he kicked the bucket?"
"..."
"Grandpa. I don’t understand. Do you two actually hate each other or not?"
Han Tian was actually offended. "Obviously, I hate him! He is the most insufferable man on this planet!"
"Then why does he have your number set as his emergency number? After all these years?"
"I was shocked too!" He gasped. "I thought he forgot all about me."
Shui shook her head. "I don’t understand your relationship at all. Anyway, I’ll be heading out now," she kissed his cheek.
—
"Those sandwiches? Sure."
"Thanks a lot!" Shui grinned. "Grandpa will be so happy. He really loved your sandwiches."
"Then he should thank Mr. Zhong," Lin said.
"Why him?"
"He had told me that recipe two years ago."
Her eyes widened. "Really?"
Lin nodded. "He told me about this popular eatery near their college campus, which he used to frequent a lot. It wasn’t the exact recipe, but he had described how it tasted. When I was deciding on the new items to add in my menu, I remembered his experience and thought to experiment with it."
Shui hadn’t certainly expected that kind of...sentiment from Zhong Sihan.
"Did it remind your grandfather of that same eatery?"
"Yes. He was very happy and completely in reminiscing mode! He had actually wanted to praise you yesterday."
"I see."
Shui slightly tilted her head. There wasn’t any visible change in his expression, but she caught the tips of his ears faintly twitching upward. For some reason, his eyes looked brighter and a bunch of imaginary flowers floated around his head.
"Are you...happy?"
"Hm? Yes. If Mr. Han remembered the happy past days, then I’m glad I was able to recreate the dish in some way."
His expression doesn’t change but his ears twitch? It’s like he is dancing..but with his ears?
Shui curiously reached out to poke his dancing ear.
"Oh, Bro looks happy!" Cai came in, chirping and holding a stack of trays in his hands.
Her hand froze mid-air and she stood in an awkward position. Lin turned and blinked at her. He looked back and forth between her raised hand and her.
"Miss. Han?"
"Ohh, what are you doing? What are you doing? That position looks suspicious," Cai jumped in their conversation. "Were you playing a prank on Bro?"
Shui wished if the ground could split and swallow her whole. She promptly lowered her hand with a twitching smile on her lips.
"No, I wasn’t playing any prank on him."
"So why did you want to touch his face?" Cai asked merrily, blissfully ignorant of how his question sounded.
Her lips parted and closed, dumbfounded. "I wasn’t trying to touch him...!"
"Your hand was definitely closer to his face!" Cai’s nostrils flared. "Are you accusing me of lying?"
"I’m accusing you of having a misunderstanding," she glared.
"I know what I saw! Hmph! You were definitely trying to prank Bro," his chest puffed indignant. "Don’t try to back peddle now. We have cameras in the kitchen. Shall I prove your guilt?"
Her brow twitched hard.
"Don’t bring the cameras in between like I’m a criminal!"
"But you are accusing me of lying!"
"It’s a misunderstanding!"
Lin was calmly watching them fight without a trace of disturbance or annoyance in his expression. He thought back to the past few months when it was only him and Cai working and talking in the kitchen. Now, Shui visited frequently and with an additional member to chatter with, the kitchen sounded livelier.
The duo got exhausted after some time and they retreated. Shui was amazed that Lin listened to two loud and fighting voices blasting into his ears with the calmness of the Buddha.
"Haah! You remind me of Uncle Jinhai."
Though his sense of calm is terrifying...
Cai’s nose elongated with pride. "Of course Bro is the coolest!"
Shui could see Jin’s spitting image in Cai in terms of how both brothers adored their elder brothers. Lin was the spitting image of Jun - patient and doting at the same time.
"Anyway.." she asked as she saw him making the sandwiches. "I was surprised to know Mr. Zhong still remembers that eatery. In fact, Grandpa also didn’t really look like he hated him that much."
He paused. "Indeed."
"So he...does reminisce about the past in some way," she blinked. "It doesn’t look like his heart is all stone-cold like he gives an impression of himself."
Lin stared at the plate below but his thoughts rippled back to the prison time and all the times he had looked after him.
"He does care about the people he likes."
"So then why does he hate his brother so much? Was there really so much bad blood between them?"
