Chapter 179: My wife. She is my wife.

A few months ago, Ella worshipped him yet suddenly she changed her entire attitude.

At first, he thought she was playing hard to get but now, there was a prickling feeling in his chest. And an unsettling ache that he tried to avoid but it seemed to linger there with vengeance.

As she laughed, she seemed to be glowing in a soft and vibrant hue. She did not seem depressed or pessimistic as she used to be.

And she had probably shed some weight again as her features were sharper, more striking, reminding him of how beautiful she was at her peak.

And a hint of a grievance curled in his chest.

Ella finally stopped laughing and met his gaze, "Are you feeling wronged now?"

Max frowned.

"Or do you probably think I am being unreasonable?" Ella sighed.

"I wasted my entire youth on you and you don’t even know that roses have never been my favorite flowers. And I love eating sweet things."

"You liked roses when you were young and you also hated sweets... Forget it!" Max inhaled a deep breath, "I will get you what you want the next time."

Ella nodded, "And what then? What do you expect in return?" She took a step closer to him and looked at the man with narrowed eyes, "Do you want to marry me?"

Max flinched, "I... No..." He sighed, "Things are complicated in my family. I can’t promise you about marriage but I will take care of you."

"Oh? You want me to be your mistress while you keep me like your dirty little secret?" Ella burst out in laughter, "My apologies. I cannot accommodate you on that."

"Ella, if it was before, you would have agreed—"

"That’s where you are wrong, Maxwell Hill. No matter when it happened, I would never reduce myself to be your mistress."

"I don’t believe that!" Max snarled, inching closer to her.

’Crash’

The bouquet of roses was shoved to the ground as the man looked at Ella, "If you are angry about the flowers then I promise I will get you whatever flowers you want. If you think flowers are too cheap then I will get you better things. No matter what he gets for you, I can get it for you too!"

In the face of his outburst, Ella remained silent, "It’s not the flower that matters to me. I can buy myself some too. But if the person giving me the flowers is a jerk like you, then..." Ella raised her hand and shook her head.

Max’s chest heaved, "You are just this cocky because of him? You don’t want to be my dirty little secret but hasn’t he kept you hidden from the world as well? Do you think you are irreplaceable in his life? What do you think you are to a man like Adrian King?"

Ella’s brows furrowed and she paused for a beat, "My relationship..." with him is none of your business.

"My wife." A frosty voice pierced through the empty alleyway.

Dressed in a well-fitted, black suit, Adrian strode towards Ella, every step powerful and deliberate.

A few strands of his hair fell over his forehead and his pale face seemed to glimmer in the sunset hue.

Max was barely a step away from Ella when a shadow towered over him as Adrian stood beside Ella.

The man was expressionless but for some reason, a chill crept down Max’s back.

There were not many people in the world that saw Adrian King, and as the rumors went, not many lived to tell the tales after seeing him. freewebnøvel_com

In all these years, Max had never met Adrian. Never seen him up so close despite visiting the Eve Mansion plenty of times.

Under Adrian’s aloof gaze, Max shifted a bit, a hint of discomfort crept in his chest.

"She is my wife,’’ Adrian’s deep voice reverberated in the place.

The man barely uttered a few words but he seemed to give off an aura that gave Max the urge to retreat.

He had barely taken a step back when he realized what he was doing. Clenching his fists, he stood in his spot.

Adrian’s gaze hovered over Max barely for a second before he glanced at Ella.

His eyes softened, "Irreplaceable and incomparable."

Those words did not belong to a man talking about the woman he liked.

But rather, Adrian spoke like a King, declaring his eternal love for his sole Queen.

For a moment, Ella froze.

’Thump’ ’Thump’ ’Thump’

She could hear the loud beating of her heart right in her ears.

Adrian did not spare Max another glance as he grabbed her hand and led her away.

Ella followed him halfway in a daze until she had a hard time catching up with him.

Suddenly, Adrian’s footsteps slowed down. His strides were still long but the man walked slower.

The journey back to the Eve Mansion was silent.

Adrian did not say anything and Ella did not initiate the conversation as well. She could not tell what he was thinking.

Every time she had met Max before, Adrian would lose his calm and lock her up. He would prevent her from seeing anyone and going anywhere.

The more he acted like that, the further she rebelled.

And usually, under such circumstances, both the sides suffered equal damage.

He took her freedom away and she stole his peace.

But in this life, Ella was no longer fixated on Max. She had changed the track of her life and she wanted to live a better life.

However, she could not guess the reason behind Adrian’s silence.

The devil on her left shoulder whispered, ’If he locks you up again, run away. Far far away from him. Never see him again.’

’But he has been sincere to her these day,’ the angel on her right shoulder fixed the halo over her head as she whispered.

’He is a madman. You can never predict the actions of a madman.’ the little devil stroked Ella’s ear with its pointy tail. ’What sincerity are you talking about, you fool?’
