Reborn: The Tyrant's Obsession-Chapter 188: She is the air he breathes
Chapter 188: She is the air he breathes
When I heard you left again, I had wanted to pull her out of the depths of the world and have you chained by my side so you could never leave again.
I wanted to be consumed by you till we are inseparable.
But you hate it. It terrifies you so I did not. I will not lock you up.
I would rather torment myself in the depths of hell than having you suffer with me.
His words made her freeze. If anybody else said it, those would be the most normal words.
Yet coming from Adrian, Ella could not believe it. He had walked away from her room that night when she had asked him this question, just because he could not bring himself to say this.
And since that night, he had been avoiding her... There was no way he would change his stance so suddenly.
Ella laughed to herself, at herself. Was it because of her...?
’Forget it, Ella. Don’t overthink. It is not your place to think about his business...’
With a hint of determination, Ella looked into his eyes, "Adrian, let’s divorce, shall we?"
A deathly coldness crept under Adrian’s skin, an unfamiliar haze of red spread before his eyes. His vision blurred and his breathing pattern got irregular.
"Let’s not continue torturing each other anymore...’’ Ella’s throat felt heavy.
She could say such words at the drop of the hat yet suddenly, they made her feel uncomfortable.
"I don’t know why you married me, but I doubt I am all that special. All this while, I have been annoying you as well, sometimes on purpose and sometimes not..." She looked away from him, the rims of her eyes reddening.
"What I want is also probably different. A normal relationship, a normal partner, an ordinary, mundane life... And let’s not lie to ourselves. We don’t belong to the same world nor do we belong together—"
Cold fingers brushed against her cheeks, before two broad palms cupped her face, "You are the air that I breathe, Elle. Without you, I am better off dead."
Ella shivered.
The words were whispered like a solemn oath of a lover who had waited lifetimes just to be with their beloved.
Ella’s breath hitched, "Adrian, we—" A pair of cool lips captured hers before she could utter another word.
Fiery, passionate and violent, Adrian kissed Ella like a dying man, holding onto her for his last breath.
Ella punched his chest.
Adrian grabbed her wrist, pulling back for a moment.
Even with her heels on, Ella was almost standing on her tiptoes when he reached down and pressed his forehead against hers.
He looked her in the eyes, "You are not going anywhere,’’ His words left no room for question, his gaze held her captive.
Ella was spellbound, looking at the man who seemed gentle, so unlike the Adrian she was familiar with.
But at the same time, he was still holding and kissing her like a caveman, making such declarations as if she was his prized possession.
Ella panted against his lips, glaring at the man.
Adrian’s eyes softened and he leaned in, stealing another small kiss from her lips.
Ella slammed her hand against his chest and pushed him away, glaring harder.
Her strength was barely enough to budge him but the man took a small step back. However, his hand still held onto her wrist and his eyes never looked away from her.
"You ignored me for days. I took you to my place, told you about my plans, and the idea to make that website worked out. It was a success but you did not even bother with anything..."
Adrian had been the first person she discussed her plans with and he had encouraged her, albeit silently. At that moment, Ella hadn’t put much thought into it.
But as she spoke now, a hint of indignance rose in her heart and her eyes welled up with tears that she blinked away immediately, "You even ignored my call and you are out here enjoying yourself, going on little shopping dates to grand auctions..."
Suddenly, she froze.
Ella had uttered those words in a moment of fit but it took her barely a second to realize something.
Damn! She was not supposed to know about this auction meant for the elites exclusively! She was not even a part of that circle.
On her way, she had been careful and put on a mask to not be seen or known by anyone. Every information she had about this auction and this auction house came from the documents she had peeked into in Adrian’s study in her previous life.
Yet, in a moment of anger, Ella revealed everything in front of Adrian.
If Adrian was not standing in front of her, gazing at her with an eerie silence, Ella would have raised her hand and given herself two tight slaps.
One on left and one on right, because apparently this was not the first time she had lost her composure in front of the beauty.
The room sank in silence and Ella shifted on her feet, her brain muddling with all possible excuses she could throw at his pretty face if he asked how she made it to the auction.
However, after a long time, Adrian did not say anything.
Ella slowly peeked at him. Did he perhaps realize that she was an expert liar? And now he was brainstorming ideas to make her spit the truth?
Adrian stepped towards Ella, a hint of confusion touching his features.
Ella stiffened. Like a hedgehog, all her spines shot up and she instinctively tried to jump back on the bed to get away from him.
But the moment she took a step back, a strong arm wrapped around her waist.
"You... What are you doing?" Ella stuttered when a pair of onyx orbs traced into hers as if they could see through everything.
What in the modern beauty trap was this ah—
"Can’t you let me go so we can properly talk from a distance?"
"Can’t," A hint of a frown appeared between Adrian’s brows.
Ella squirmed in his grip, only to feel it tighten, "Is this necessary?"
"Absolutely."
"_" Fine, blame me for choosing to converse with you instead of hitting my head against a rock.
Ella lowered her head, breaking off the eye contact.
Adrian pinched her chin and lifted it, "Stay still,’’ he whispered against her lips.
Adrian observed her closely, like he was dissecting a mystery case, putting lost pieces together.
Just as Ella considered whether to play dead, she heard him speak.
"Are you... jealous?" Adrian spoke the word with hesitation as if the idea of her being jealous over him was some out-of-the-world concept.
Ella froze.
J-Jealous?
’You even ignored my call and you are out here enjoying yourself, going on little shopping dates to grand auctions...’
At the reminder of what she had said and thinking back to how she had reacted after seeing him with Lilith, Ella blinked slowly. novelbuddy-cσ๓
"Why would I be..." When she met Adrian’s gaze, there was a hint of smile in his eyes.
Ella’s ’fur’ bristled and she straightened up, "So what if I am? Do you have any problems with it?"
Even if she was jealous, he was the last person who should be looking at her with those ’gorgeously-twinking-silently-mocking-pretty’ eyes!
Adrian’s eyes heated over, "None,’’ he leaned close to her.
Ella’s breath hitched when his lips fell over her neck. Instinctively, she arched her neck as he peppered soft kisses along the trail, his lips hovering over the neckline of her white dress. She hated how easily her body betrayed her.
She felt his fingers brushing the zipper of her dress, deliberate and slow.
"Adrian..." Ella whispered his name softly, inching closer to him, ’’I might not be as rich or powerful as you but I would never lower myself enough to settle for an unequal relationship."
"You dislike my involvement with other men? Fine. But you are not allowed to mingle around with other women as well..."
Adrian’s movements paused.
Ella lowered her gaze, "If you must do it, then all I hope for is that you let me go... sssss—"
She sucked in a cold breath when his teeth dug into her skin in a punishing bite.
Tears welled up in her eyes. Just as she reached to push him away, a soothing sensation washed over as his tongue darted out, gently circling the spot he bit.
Adrian tilted his head, "You are all that I want..."
