Chapter 246: Chapter 246: Are You Feeling Unwell Today?

Zhan Lan patted Little Black on his hamstring, and Little Black immediately got up from the ground with a serious dog face.

"Miss!"

Xiao Tao and Liu Xi had been waiting at the door all along. Seeing them, Zhan Lan smiled and said, "You both seem to have lost weight, what happened? Is the food not good enough?"

Xiao Tao ran over and supported Zhan Lan’s arm, saying, "Miss, we’ve missed you so much!"

Liu Xi smiled faintly, covering her lips and coughing lightly to hide the urge to cry.

Her young lady’s hands bore scars; no maiden awaiting marriage should have such scars on her hands.

"Lan’er!" Zhan Lan heard a voice she didn’t like.

She lifted her eyelids and saw Mrs. Li standing at the door, smiling at her.

That smile was complex, conveying both pride that Zhan Lan was making a name for herself, giving her mother some glory, and jealousy as to why it was Zhan Lan who was successful.

Zhan Lan walked a little closer. More white strands had woven into her hair, frown lines settled between her brows, and her eyes, once as beautiful as calm waters, had lost their luster.

Mrs. Li’s skin was dull, and in plain clothes, she appeared lifeless, her vitality far from ideal.

Zhan Lan stared into her eyes and said something heartbreaking, "You’ve aged."

Mrs. Li frowned. How could Zhan Lan speak so unpleasantly upon seeing her?

Zhan Lan turned to Liu Xi and said, "Starting today, add more chicken, duck, fish, and meat dishes every day. Seeing you two so thin makes me sad."

Having said that, Zhan Lan stepped into the courtyard.

Mrs. Li clenched her fists and gritted her teeth behind Zhan Lan’s back, cursing how arrogant she was, not even calling her mother anymore!

And what did Zhan Lan mean by that? The chicken, duck, fish, and meat weren’t even for her. Even if the food improved, it wasn’t for her benefit.

Zhan Lan greeted the two maids, Tie Chui and Tie Tou, with enthusiasm, "Wow, you two sisters are getting more beautiful!"

The two girls smiled simply.

Zhan Lan entered her own room, took a comfortable bath, and changed into women’s clothing.

She sat in front of the vanity mirror, the sunlight falling on her face, her skin seeming a bit rougher.

She looked across at the opposite house, what was Mu Yan doing?

Zhan Lan withdrew her gaze, slapped her cheeks with her hands, and mockingly said to herself, "You’re insane, why think of him!"

Suddenly, the window of the room was pushed open, a tall figure leaned casually against the window, blocking out the sunlight for her, and looked at Zhan Lan, "What’s wrong, thinking of me?"

Zhan Lan looked up to see the smug face of Mu Yan.

She answered perfunctorily, "Of course not..."

Mu Yan jumped through the window, grabbed Zhan Lan’s hand, and pulled her outside.

"Where are we going?"

Mu Yan said nothing, only holding her hand as they walked to his courtyard.

Zhan Lan admired the garden full of blooming flowers, the fragrance overwhelming, and butterflies dancing.

Looking around, she saw a tree taller than the courtyard walls, and under the sun, Mu Yan used his hand to shield her from the sunlight.

Zhan Lan saw a tree full of rubies, and upon a closer look, they were cherries, shining brilliantly under the halo of sunlight.

Mu Yan pulled her wrist, picked a bunch, and handed it to Zhan Lan.

Under two leaves hung four brightly colored cherries.

Zhan Lan took them and bit gently. The sweet and sour juice, along with the flesh, entered her mouth, tasting even better than last time when Mu Yan brought them to the backyard of the General Mansion.

"Is it good?"

Mu Yan looked at her. Before Zhan Lan could answer, he gently touched the cherry juice on her lips with his fingertip, raised his eyes, and Mu Yan put his finger to his mouth and tasted it lightly, saying, "Mmm, it’s sweet."

Zhan Lan’s ears turned red as she casually turned her gaze to the courtyard, "Did you also plant cherry trees?"

Mu Yan looked at the cherries on the tree and said, "Planted ten, but sadly, only this one survived."

"Do you also like cherries?" Zhan Lan probed.

Mu Yan touched her hair and said, "Someone loves them."

Zhan Lan remained silent, but smiled.

"Woof woof woof..."

Three puppies suddenly ran over in the garden, their little short legs trotting toward Mu Yan and Zhan Lan.

One white, one black, and one a black-and-white spotted.

Zhan Lan picked up one of the black-and-white spotted ones, rubbed its round and smooth belly, and said, "Is this Little Black’s and Little White’s child?"

Mu Yan nodded, "Even the dogs have had pups, and someone still hasn’t given me a proper status..."

Zhan Lan gave him a sidelong glance, then hugged the other two milk-puff puppies in her arms. Seeing the three little ones snuggling into Zhan Lan’s embrace, Mu Yan said discontentedly, "Zhan Lan, you’re more enthusiastic hugging dogs than hugging me..."

Thus, the three puppies were successfully put down on the ground with a stern face, and off they went to find Little White.

The corners of Zhan Lan’s mouth twitched, "How old is Mu Yan this year? How can he even be jealous of dogs?"

Her wrist was caught by Mu Yan, and he led her upstairs. Not until the room door was open, did Mu Yan close it with one hand and hold her in his arms.

"Me, jealous?" Mu Yan arrogantly said, holding her. "I am not jealous of dogs."

That’s how Zhan Lan was held by him, having not seen each other for two months, she felt incredibly secure in Mu Yan’s tight embrace while listening to his strong heartbeat.

It took a while for Mu Yan to calm his breathing and let go of her. His arms went under her knees and he picked her up, walking slowly toward the bedroom.

Zhan Lan panicked, even though she now had a liking for Mu Yan.

But she wasn’t prepared to give herself entirely to him yet.

She said solemnly, "Mu Yan, what are you trying to do..."

"What?" Mu Yan looked at her cheeks growing red.

"What are you taking me to your bedroom for? Last time you..."

Zhan Lan saw the bed and remembered how Mu Yan had taken liberties with her there.

Mu Yan teased her on purpose, his voice lower, "Is your body not well today?"

Zhan Lan’s face turned red in an instant, trying to get down from Mu Yan’s body. Mu Yan smiled slightly, passed through the bedroom, walked along a stone path, and reached another room.

Beneath the canopy, a room filled with steamy air, Zhan Lan saw a hot spring pool with some herbs and flowers floating in the water.

Mu Yan put down Zhan Lan, "I’ve prepared an herbal bath for you. Your internal injuries and external wounds from battling may not seem obvious, but they flare up once you’re idle. This herbal pack is prepared by Pharmacist Qi Lin. I’ve tested it myself; it’s very effective."

Upon hearing this, Zhan Lan suddenly felt embarrassed.

She had overthought it.

"Living spring water nourishes the body. You don’t have to worry; no one will disturb you, including me." Mu Yan raised his hand in guarantee.

Zhan Lan nodded, "But, my clothes..."

Mu Yan took out several items of women’s clothing from the cabinet behind him, "I had these made to your size. Try them, they should be just right, maybe a little big, but not too small."

Zhan Lan looked at the brand-new clothes, touched. If Mu Yan wanted to be nice to someone, he was extremely attentive.

It was in these details that she felt what it was like to be loved.

Yet, she still wasn’t ready to be with Mu Yan; the pain from her past life was too deep, she dared not give her heart away so early.

Mu Yan, stroking her hand, said, "I’ll be outside waiting for you. Call me if you need anything."

"Okay."

The door closed behind Mu Yan, and Zhan Lan slipped off her clothes, stepping into the medicinal bath.

The comfortable warmth of the water soothed her entire body, and she nearly fell asleep against the pool’s edge, intoxicated by the scent of flowers and herbs.

An hour later, Mu Yan, not hearing any noises from inside, asked with concern, "Zhan Lan, are you alright?"

Zhan Lan suddenly woke up, "I’m fine."

Mu Yan responded and continued to wait at the door.

Zhan Lan heard him pacing outside and chuckled softly. Although Mu Yan was usually not very serious,

He said he wouldn’t come in, and he wouldn’t.

After the herbal bath, Zhan Lan dressed in the clothes Mu Yan had prepared for her and wiped her hair dry.

She walked out of the room to see Mu Yan sitting not far from the door, a folding fan in hand, fanning himself.

"Do you feel a little better?" Mu Yan raised his eyes to her as he heard Zhan Lan’s footsteps.
