Reborn to Redeem: Their Abusive Love-Chapter 54: Instructions and Judgement
Chapter 54: Instructions and Judgement
Brutal.
Deplorable.
Yet the guests present had bloodshot eyes, their attention completely focused on the battle within the giant cage below. The couple closest, both dressed meticulously, did catch a glimpse of the scene, but after a quick glance, they diverted their gaze.
The husband, suppressing his voice, cautioned his wife.
"Those people are clearly from the Triad Society, Wan Foni. In Underground City, one must never offend the staff of Gambling City. Although they appear polite, they won’t treat the guests with utmost respect and reverence as gods," he whispered.
"Why? Isn’t this place just like any other gang’s territory?"
"That’s right, but they’re the top local gang and the rulers of the entire Underground City."
Their voices were too faint, soon drowned out by the cheers and excitement of the other guests.
In the dim twilight, Xu Si saw a staff member take the man’s ID badge. A slight chill ran down her arm. In her eyes, there was no pity, only faint sympathy.
Lingering in her ears was that one sentence:
"Beware the evil here."
The insane underground fight club.
Xu Si raised her gaze, taking a measured look at everyone present, and heaved a sigh.
For a moment, she couldn’t tell who the real villain was—herself included, not being some paragon of innocence and kindness.
From this perspective, there were just too many people she needed to be wary of.
And furthermore, the most villainous-looking was clearly the silver-haired man himself.
The portly guest was quickly led away by other staff members, and the scene remained as lively as if nothing had happened. However, some of the staff covertly glanced at the woman standing in the aisle, uncertainly memorizing her face.
Watching the bald giant prepare to leave, Xu Si thought of something and immediately got up to follow him.
"Wait."
The bald man furrowed his brow and sized her up. "What is it?" he asked, his voice hoarse and indistinct.
Xu Si hadn’t forgotten the reason she was here. Her slender fingers clutched her handbag as her clear, tranquil peach blossom eyes looked up at him, getting straight to the point.
"Thank you for the other day. But after that day, I lost a photograph. Have you seen it by any chance?"
The bald man’s muscular arm, covered in expansive tattoos, trembled as he glanced down. His throat felt like it was filled with serrations, and the voice he emitted was so rough it seemed boundless.
"I have. I took it."
Xu Si tilted her beautiful face up and slowly relaxed. Although she didn’t know what he wanted with the photo, she still asked, "Can you return it to me?"
The bald giant, his face impassive, didn’t refuse.
"It’s not on me. Don’t leave Underground City. Someone will find you and give it to you."
That was such a relief.
Before coming here, Xu Si’s biggest worry was the whereabouts of the photograph.
Most people, finding a stranger’s photo among a pile of money, would choose to throw away the bothersome image. Now, hearing that there was a chance of its return, she breathed a complete sigh of relief.
Her eyes twinkled with joy as she said, "Okay, thank you."
The bald man was silent for a long while before his Adam’s apple bobbed awkwardly and impatiently. He asked her, "Is there anything else?"
"No, that’s everything," Xu Si paused. Noticing he hadn’t left, she asked, "Do you need something?"
The bald man’s face was stony, his complexion ashen. His thick eyebrows furrowed further, and he appeared even more irritable.
"I’ve got nothing."
It was a pointless conversation. The two of them stood frozen.
In this environment, Xu Si’s eyes shone like stars. She gently pursed her bright red lips, a hint of hesitation and probing in their depths.
"Aren’t you going? I’m about to leave."
It seemed as if he was just waiting for her to say that.
Without any hesitation, the bald man turned, and his enormous figure plunged into the deeper darkness, following in the footsteps of the silver-haired man.
Xu Si was speechless.
She couldn’t tell if it was her imagination, but it seemed as though the brutal giant had waited for her to speak before choosing to leave.
And as she left the first basement level, that eerie, dark gaze once again made its presence known, fixating on her from some unreachable corner as she moved.
Xu Si took a deep breath and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she looked up.
Apart from a thick, pitch-black curtain, there was nothing.
Chills ran down her spine as she turned and entered the elevator surrounded by a bronze-colored fence.
She had a lead on the photo; she needed to find Chen Mo to get her hands on the legally laundered foreign currency.
「Behind the dark curtain.」
It was a separate space, with black gauze curtains hanging on all four walls. The light from the gold candlesticks was faint, making it difficult to see the furnishings clearly. Those inside knew this was where the fight club manager usually rested and could monitor every move in the arena below.
At this moment, the manager was conversing with a referee in the arena below.
Sitting in the spacious armchair was the silver-haired man.
He fondled the cold Scepter, watching as the graceful, delicate woman slowly disappeared from his view, his grey eyes swirling with darkness.
"Hei Shi, tell me, why did she come here?"
The bald man knocked and entered, silently walking to his side to recount their earlier conversation.
"She’s not here for the photo. The men below reported that as soon as she entered Gambling City, she was trying to find the member in charge of the Sanlian Chamber of Commerce from Hong Kong Island."
After a long pause, the man’s gaze grew colder. He smirked, lazy and scornful, his tone deathly cold as he said, "Then call the person over to meet her."
"Yes."
The bald man was expressionless. In this vast, dark empire, whatever the Dictator did was justified. He awaited his next command.
He tilted his head, propping it up with an arm bent behind his ear. The slender knuckles on the Scepter rose and fell rhythmically. His eyes held a murky, unrestrained darkness. After a moment’s thought, he said, "Hei Shi, I never imagined she’d come to this godforsaken place. No matter what, she shouldn’t have come."
The bald man was silent for a moment. "I will immediately arrange for men to expel her."
The air went silent, a deep, deathly stillness.
"That simply won’t do."
The man turned his head. His demeanor was as chilling as a grave, and countless dark emotions crawled into his eyes. His tone was wildly arrogant.
"Hei Shi, I want her to stay. To stay forever."
As he spoke, a recklessly indulgent and enchanting smile hung on his lips, yet it was filled with insanity.
"Yes. If you wish it, then she cannot leave."
The bald man, expressionless, turned immediately and left.
The silver-haired man stood up and walked to the candlestick. A large shadow enveloped the room. He looked at the photo of the woman with a radiant smile. Hazy memories surfaced, and his ash-grey pupils seemed to ignite with a crimson flame.
The memories were thorny. Fortunately, he could barely recall them anymore.
His voice was elusive, thick with intense yearning and possessiveness, making even the fog outside the window seem to pulse with a vibrant, almost beautiful life.
"My dear aunt, I let you go once already. I hid far away from you, never letting anyone disturb your peace."
"But you still came."
"Then stay with me. Stay with me forever."
