Chapter 1108: Woo Hyo-Yeol (15)

“Why are you here, Woo Hyo-Yeol?”

He was an uninvited guest, so of course, the two put their guards around him. It was really late, and I thought hard and long about why he was here, but I just couldn't think of any reason for him to come here.

Moments later, I heard his voice.

“What? Am I not allowed to be here?” Woo Hyo-Yeol asked.

“I’m not in the mood to play games, so answer me. Why are you here?”

I was "asleep," so I wasn't watching, but I could feel the tension between them.

Han Seung-Yoon’s trembling voice told me how nervous he was right now. He sounded tense and anxious. I heard a clatter, so I assumed he was looking for his weapon. Woo Hyo-Yeol seemed like he didn’t really care, but Han Seung-Yoon seemed like he was preparing for anything unexpected.

“...”

I was sure Lim Cheong-Ha wasn’t all that different. She was probably really focused while glaring at Woo Hyo-Yeol.

‘But why is this jerk here? Did he think the match was unfair?’

“You really have your guard up… How ridiculous,” Woo Hyo-Yeol commented.

“I have no choice but to have my guard up after what you did at the mock battle. Don't you agree?” Han Seung-Yoon asked.

“Haa.”

“Only an idiot won't notice how hostile you’re being right now. Let me ask you this, Woo Hyo-Yeol. Why in the world are you here? What’s your goal? If my assumption is correct! You…”

Just as I expected, Lim Cheong-Ha sounded nervous as well.

“I don’t know what kind of answer you’re expecting. What is it you want to hear?” Woo Hyo-Yeol asked them.

“...”

“If I told you that I came here to kill him, you think you could stop me?” Woo Hyo-Yeol questioned.

‘Those two can’t stop him.’

“You think you two losers can stop me? Try it. It should be fun,” Woo Hyo-Yeol said.

If Woo Hyo-Yeol was determined to kill me, then those two wouldn’t be able to stop him. He was so close to me that he could reach me within seconds.

It wouldn't take long for Han Seung-Yoon and Lim Cheong-Ha to lose their lives.

The mock battle was markedly different from an actual battle, and they couldn't request reinforcements either. Lim Cheong-Ha and Han Seung-Yoon knew that better than anyone, as they had realized their limits during the last mock battle.

“W-We won’t go down that easily, you bastard,” Han Seung-Yoon stuttered.

“We at least have to…”

Of course, knowing their limits and having the determination to resist until the end were two completely different stories. Those two had picked the wrong person to fight.

‘Woo Hyo-Yeol is an idiot, but I don’t think he'll come all the way here just to kill me.’

If he really wanted to kill me, he wouldn’t have come in here like this.

Trying to sneak past the members of the Flower and Fertility Familia was hard enough, and the regressor's body wasn’t exactly complete, so I was sure he wanted to avoid pushing his limits.

More importantly, he had no reason to kill me right now, but if he had any reason to kill me, I'd say that it was all because he was annoyed with me. He wasn’t that stupid that he would take that big of a risk for a simple reason like that.

‘A lot has changed, right? Is that what you’re worried about?’

As a regressor, I was sure he was worried. An insignificant person like me was changing the future, after all.

The fact that I joined the Flower and Fertility Familia meant that William was going to take a path that was different from his first life.

It wasn’t just William, though. I was sure the key students within the academy had changed drastically as well. A very small change could lead to larger consequences, and he had already experienced the consequences, so it was natural for him to be worried.

Just like how he was an uninvited guest to me, I was an uninvited guest to Woo Hyo-Yeol. I was an uninvited guest ruining everything he knew. Obviously, that wasn’t enough for him to harm me. He had a reasonable side as well, and he had already realized that the future was changing.

It was too late to turn back.

Even if he managed to get rid of me, nothing would change.

I was also the one who was chosen to help him.

I certainly wasn’t a potential enemy; I was more like a potential ally.

‘You will never be able to kill me.’

That was why I couldn’t help but question why he came here.

‘Seriously, why is he here?’

'What business does he have with me that he made time to come all the way here?'

‘Did he want to slap me or something?’

'Or did he just want to see my face?'

‘Don’t think this is over—did he come to say cliche lines like that?’

Or… had he come here to beg me to use my genius brain of mine and make use of him? The timing was kind of off, but I had to get up because I needed to end this awkward confrontation.

“He’s my guest, hyung, noona,” I said.

“Ki-Young,” Han Seung-Yoon said.

“Y-You’re up. Are you okay? How are you feeling?” Lim Cheong-Ha asked.

They both looked shocked.

“No, you shouldn’t be up. Don’t worry too much. We’ll take care of this… somehow,” Lim Cheong-Ha reassured me.

“She’s right, Ki-Young. You just—”

“I’m okay, hyung, noona. Don’t worry too much,” I interrupted Han Seung-Yoon.

“What?”

“I’m sure he came all the way here because he wanted to talk to me. Do you mind… leaving us for a moment?” I asked.

“Are you serious?” Lim Cheong-Ha asked.

“Nothing will happen, I promise,” I reassured them.

“Ki-Young, I don’t think you’re aware yet… but that jerk… that jerk…”

“Hyung, nothing will happen. He’s not as bad… as you think. You really think he’s crazy enough to cause me harm here?” I questioned.

“You’re right…” Han Seung-Yoon answered.

There was a moment of silence.

“All right. You’re so stubborn. Let’s go, Cheong-Ha,” Han Seung-Yoon added.

“What? Are you kidding me?” Lim Cheong-Ha questioned.

“Ki-Young said nothing bad will happen, so I’m sure nothing will happen,” Han Seung-Yoon said.

Han Seung-Yoon walked quietly, but before leaving, he stared at Woo Hyo-Yeol and said, “I’m warning you. If you touch even one strand of his hair, I’ll never forgive you.”

It was a cliched line. Lim Cheong-Ha told me to call them if anything ended up happening before following after Han Seung-Yoon. Of course, she kept looking back. Clearly, she wasn't exactly a fan of this.

'So we meet again.'

As usual, Woo Hyo-Yeol walked arrogantly toward me, and as the patient, I just watched him. It looked like he was looking down at me. Unlike my assumption that he was going to get straight to the point, he was being hesitant, which was unlike him.

Just as I expected, I felt no hostility from him. He couldn’t find the reason to kill me right here and right now. It was more like he was forcing himself to hold his tongue and not say anything.

‘I wonder what he’s going to say.’

There was no need for me to say anything. The awkward silence was bothering me, but I was supposed to hate him. He was self-righteous, reckless, and selfish. I was born to be kind-hearted, so I couldn't get along with someone like Woo Hyo-Yeol.

Like water and oil, we simply couldn't mix.

After a while, Woo Hyo-Yeol finally shattered the silence, asking, “Who are you?”

‘What the? What is he trying to say? Is there something wrong with his communication skills?’

“Who the hell are you, Lee Ki-Young?” Woo Hyo-Yeol asked.

“What is it you want to hear?” I asked.

“Who… are you? How could you…”

‘Ah, this bastard is so annoying.’

'What in the world is he trying to say?'

“I…” I paused.

“...”

“I came here to help you,” I continued.

'I’ll start with the truth first and with a voice full of sincerity.'

“That’s all I can tell you. I don’t know what it is you want to say, but…” I paused again.

“...”

“I’m a player who was summoned to the Rohen Continent, and I got into a contract with some of the GENIUSES to help you. Information about you was limited, so I don’t know everything about you, but I have an idea about the kind of person you are,” I added.

“...”

“I haven’t heard exactly what I need to do to help you… but I’m your ally. That’s an undeniable fact. Do you have any other questions?” I asked.

Woo Hyo-Yeol frowned. Although he hadn’t said it, I knew this wasn’t the answer he wanted to hear from me. It was like he didn’t even know what he wanted to hear.

He wasn't mad because he lost in the tutorial dungeon and the mock battle, and he clearly wasn’t here to vent his anger. Actually, it was like he wasn’t even sure why he was here in the first place.

‘Huh? Is this jerk serious?’

I had no idea, but he was confused.

‘Are you serious?! Damn it!’

I really didn’t know the reason, but I could tell he was unstable for some reason.

‘What the hell is going on?!’

'I’ll just rush him. I don’t know why, but I feel like I have to do this because I might not get a second chance to do so.'

How could I miss out on this opportunity when the wild dog that looked like it couldn't be tamed was wagging its tail before me?

“Do you have… any other questions?” I asked.

“...”

“...”

“...”

Was he wondering why I hated him? If he had a conscience, he would have known the reason, but perhaps I ought to set up the story first.

'All right, let’s go with this one. I’m jealous of Woo Hyo-Yeol.'

‘Nice.’

'Let’s go with me being jealous of Woo Hyo-Yeol for having the things I couldn’t have and his abilities. I despised him for using that power for the wrong reasons. I’ll pretend that I hate and I'm jealous of the way he’s living his life.'

‘I’ll add in a bonus.’

'Are you wondering why I wasn’t in your first life? I’ll answer that as well.'

“Are you… here to kill me?” I asked.

“...”

“If that’s what you want… you should do it,” I added.

“Because… Because I only have a few years to live,” I told him.

It was a ridiculous truth that came out of nowhere.

However, it was a heartbreaking story that would pop into my head once in a while.

“What?”

“I have about… three years… no… two years left…” I said.

“...”

“Are you going to kill me?” I asked.

Flower Ki-Young, who was trying hard to smile, was withering away.

The roots of the flower with the most radiant petals were rotten and decayed.

“What did you say?” Woo Hyo-Yeol asked.

“I… don’t have much time left to live,” I answered.

“...”

“So even if you don’t like me, please bear with it for a few years,” I begged.

“...”

“Because I’m going to die anyway,” I added.
