Regressor's Harem Of Vengeance-Chapter 31. Anger.
It was Mira’s first battle against monsters and right now the thick smell of blood was in the air, so it wouldn’t be strange for Mira to feel nauseous from the scene around her.
Any adult would feel the same after experiencing what she just had and that was why Ray had a worried look on his face.
"I... I killed them." Mira stammered as she stared at her shaking hands.
"Yes, you did."
"I didn’t expect to feel..."
"If you want to stop right now, it’s fine," Ray advised, but Mira glanced at him.
Although, it felt strange to have killed the three goblins on her own, that was exactly what she had been training for all this time.
She had been working really hard for this moment, so quitting had never really crossed her mind before, and neither would she allow it to cross her mind right now.
Yes, she might have killed three goblins, but that didn’t mean that she was going to give up on her dreams so easily.
Mira took a deep breath, then clenched her fists gently before saying. "I’m fine. Let’s find some more monsters."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am."
"Alright." Ray nodded and the two strolled around, in search of more monsters for Mira to fight.
Over the next three weeks, Ray and Mira hunted monsters together every afternoon. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Be it goblins, Forest wolves, Dire rats, or Giant spiders, they hunted anything they could find.
During this period, Mira grew stronger, faster, and more confident.
She learned to recognize monster behaviors during combat, along with how to anticipate their attacks and exploit their weaknesses.
Ray had never had anyone train or teach him how to fight, but he tried his best to be a really good mentor and teacher to Mira.
Thankfully, he could see her improving with each fight she engaged in.
Yes, she still hadn’t awakened any powers yet, but she was definitely becoming a formidable fighter in her own right. By the end of the third week, Mira was already holding her own against Level 8 monsters with minimal help from Ray.
Watching all of these, Ray couldn’t have been prouder of her.
A few weeks passed and news finally reached the village.
It turned out that Baron Harvard had begun making his rounds.
He had started his tax collection from villages within the region and it was only a matter of time before he arrived at Thornsville.
Currently, Ray and Mira were in the house, along with Helen and Emma.
Marcus had also arrived at the house to inform them of what he had heard.
"What did you just say?" Helen asked with a worried look on her face and Marcus sighed softly as he repeated himself.
"I said the Baron already started making his tax collection rounds early this year, and he’ll most likely be arriving here in four weeks."
"Four weeks? That’s earlier than usual."
Marcus nodded and continued. "I know, and I also heard that the tax has been increased to fifty gold coins per household."
"What?!" Helen gasped. "T-That’s impossible! The village will starve if we are to pay that amount of coins to the Baron. Where does he expect us to find that amount of coins?" Helen was deeply worried because the increase was something she could never have imagined happening.
After all, what kind of nut job would increase the rate from five gold coins to fifty gold coins?
Marcus sighed heavily and replied. "To be honest, I don’t know, but I believe that everyone in the village should ask for an extension, or we could try to negotiate with the Baron..."
"It won’t work..." Ray interrupted and everyone turned to him as he continued. "Everyone knows what the Baron is like. There’s no way he’ll listen to what any of us has to say to him."
Marcus sighed once again because he knew Ray was right.
The Baron had already begun making his rounds to every town and village within his territory, so if all the other towns had begun paying their taxes, there was no way he would listen to anyone offering less than what he had asked them to pay.
In other words, he was a leech and leeches never stopped sucking blood voluntarily.
He was going to keep sucking until he was satisfied.
Realizing this, Ray clenched his fists on the table in front of him, he was currently sitting on a chair in the living room, along with everyone else.
He then furrowed his brow with rage as he pondered over the fact that the Baron was really going to be arriving at Thornsville very soon.
In other words, it was only a matter of time before he could finally carry out his revenge on Baron Harvard.
Ray’s blood began to fume as he replayed the letter Marcus had sent to him in his first life.
He recalled reading the letter, feeling helpless and extremely angry at what Harvard had done to his girlfriend.
Ray gritted his teeth even more as he recalled all these, while Marcus and Helen pondered over what to do about Harvard’s imminent arrival.
On the other hand, Mira suddenly clutched her chest as an influx of rage flooded into her body and mind.
The wave of pure hatred and anger burned within her and Mira couldn’t help but feel even more puzzled, because she knew she had no reason to feel so angry right now.
Yes, she was unhappy about how the Baron had increased their taxes, but she didn’t have a reason to feel such rage and hatred towards him.
Mira tried to make sense of what was going on, but she couldn’t, until she lifted her head and took a look at Ray. The moment she glanced at him, everything around her turned blurry.
The room around her began to blur and turn dark until all she could see was nothing but Ray sitting in a dark room with a letter in his hands and tears streaming down his cheeks.
