Chapter 60: 60. Mira To The Rescue.

A spear pierced through the wind to land straight on the wyvern’s throat, causing the laser beam to drift away from Ray but only a little bit struck him on the arm, leaving him injured.

Ray groaned a bit and the wyvern cried out in agony, but it forced itself to spread its wings before lifting its body from the ground.

Ray swiftly clutched his arm as he dropped to his knees.

Then he heard footsteps approaching him.

He lifted his head up swiftly to see Mira approaching him with a worried look on her face.

Then she knelt in front of him, and asked. "Ray! Are you alright?"

"Yeah. I am. You saved my life."

Mira swiftly pulled him close for a hug and she tightened her grip around him.

Just a few moments ago, when she had arrived, Mira noticed the wyvern aiming a strange type of attack straight at Ray.

She had feared the worse, so she reacted before her brain could even register what she was doing. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Her hands had instinctively moved to protect Ray and she was glad she didn’t just stand behind to do nothing.

Ray smiled and hugged her in return before raising his head up to see the wyvern flying away.

Mira pulled back slowly and noticed the direction his gaze was at.

"You’re still going after that thing?"

"Yes. It’s injured so that means it can’t go far."

"But you said it was dangerous for us to fight it and you almost got yourself killed just now."

"I’m fine. Besides, you were the one who wanted us to fight it, remember?"

"Yeah, but I changed my mind now. I don’t want to do anything that would make you hurt or worse."

"I understand and I won’t do anything stupid. But I believe the wyvern is losing a lot of blood so it can’t really fly that far. If it falls, we can gain a lot from selling its body parts, and I really want to get my sword back as well." Ray pointed out the fact that his sword was still lodged in the beast chest.

Mira was reluctant to let him go but she ultimately understood the valid point he made and she nodded in understanding before saying. "Alright, let’s go but we’re keeping a reasonable distance between us and the monster, Okay?"

"Alright." Ray nodded in response and the two gently followed the trail of blood left behind by the injured wyvern.

The trail lead deep into the forest.

It was even deeper than the two had ever ventured before and they should have rightfully abandoned their trail but they kept following it because the blood trail kept getting bigger and fresher, indicating that the wyvern was definitely close by.

In about five to ten minutes, Ray and Mira finally arrived at their destination.

They could see the wyvern making a low sound which didn’t look like a roar or a shriek of agony.

Instead it sounded somewhat different but neither of them knew exactly what it meant.

All they could see was the wyvern’s weakened body facing forward.

Up close, the wyvern was larger than Ray expected it to be.

Its scales looked thick and shiny as the rays of sunlight reflected on the dark green colored sheen across its spine.

Its breathing turned slower by the minute and the wound in its body had turned serious because of the huge amount of blood it had lost.

The wyvern made one last sound before its eye loses its color and Ray instantly approached the head of the monster to notice how it was looking at the northeast treeline in front of it.

"Do you think something is over there?" Mira asked worriedly and Ray replied honestly.

"If there’s something there, then we have to check it out." Ray turned and looked at the tree line.

Then he walked toward the tree line with Mira trailing behind him but the first thing they noticed was a large oak tree.

At the base of the large tree was a nest and they had almost missed it because the nest had been built at a low and tight angle between the roots of the tree.

It seemed like the wyvern had used the oak tree natural bowl shape as the foundation to build its nest.

There were also several scales pressed together into something solid, so Ray crouched beside it but to his surprise, beneath the covering of shed scales were two eggs, carefully arranged in the nest.

Each one was roughly around the size of a large watermelon and the shells of the eggs were unlike anything Ray had seen before.

They were not smooth like normal eggs but each egg looked like it was covered with scales that interlocked each other, making them look like a bright and shiny obsidian egg.

They also felt warm to the touch as Ray and Mira grabbed one each, but right after the two lifted the eggs and glanced back at the wyvern, they suddenly realized something very important.

The wyvern might have been brooding for months, and that’s why it had its nest here.

But the moment the strong scent of blood from the village found its way here, the wyvern decided to leave her nest to get something to eat, hence why it had found itself in their village earlier in the morning.

It clearly wanted something to eat, so as to take care of itself and her eggs.

However, Ray and Mira also recognized the fact that it was determined to take out any threats standing in its way of food, hence why it had attacked the village when no one had done anything to pissed it off.

"What do we do with these?" Mira asked as she made reference to the two eggs they were holding

"We’ll take it back with us for now. But first, I have something to do." Ray dropped the second egg with Mira, then he made his way to the fallen wyvern.
