Chapter 34: Dragon Of Nightmares(2)

The goblins remained kneeling as eleven wolves stepped out from behind the bushes.

They were gigantic.

At least twice Azeth’s height and nearly four times his length, the wolves looked powerful and terrifying.

The Death Wolf, Erst, was even larger than the others. His black fur seemed to swallow the light that touched it.

Azeth glanced at his own scales.

They were darker.

A faint smirk appeared on his face when Erst spoke.

"So he is the dragon of nightmares? Hahahahaha!"

Maybe wolves weren’t meant to laugh. The way they did looked ridiculous.

Azeth chuckled quietly.

Then the wolf spoke again.

"You insect-like bastard, where did you crawl out from?"

Azeth didn’t bother answering.

"Haha! He’s as pitiful as one can get. How is someone so tiny going to do anything at all? Give me the privilege, Lord. I’ll deal with him."

Another black-furred wolf stepped forward. He was slightly smaller than the rest and had a strange brown patch on his nose.

His breathing was heavy, rapid, as if adrenaline rushed through his veins. His eyes were bloodshot.

Azeth remained calm.

There were many goblins behind and around him. The weak ones had already taken several steps back. All of them were weak.

Azeth didn’t think much of it.

He cracked his neck to the left and then to the right before raising his hand and pointing a claw at the wolves.

"I have no business with you. Leave."

"Grrr..." a low growl escaped the smaller wolf as he faced Azeth.

Erst smirked.

"Go ahead. Demonstrate your skill, Takk. Show us what your father has taught you."

The wolf leapt forward.

Azeth lept nowhere.

His feet stayed firmly planted as his eyes calmly scanned the wolves.

None of them mattered.

Except Erst.

"Awoooo! Are you ready to be killed?"

Azeth turned his head toward the goblins.

"I have news to deliver."

The goblins looked like they were about to lose their minds.

The warriors of their tribe were exhausted and battered. It had been days since any of them had slept properly.

Many were wounded from their constant battles with the Frog-Men.

Things grew worse when other goblin tribes declared war after forming a pact with a certain Shaman.

And then, on one bloody day, a dragon egg hatched in the forest where they lived.

That alone caused chaos.

Beasts from everywhere came searching for it, especially the starving ones.

The wolves were among them.

The elite wolf pack, led by their king, entered Talia searching for their long-lost sister.

Instead, they found the dragon hatchling.

It only wanted to speak with them.

...they killed it.

Nothing unusual, really.

When slimes or goblins died, nobody cared. So nobody cared when a dragon died either.

So the wolves dragged the corpse and threw it in front of the goblin settlement.

"Give me a break already... I can’t..."

An elderly goblin muttered weakly under his breath.

He stood there with the help of a stick almost as thin as himself, barely able to remain upright.

Takk arched his body slightly, stretching as if loosening his joints. He was ready to pounce.

But Azeth continued looking at the goblins.

"My master wants to save you all. What do you sa-"

Before he could finish, Takk leapt forward and activated the skill [Bite].

His sharp teeth, capable of cutting through steel, snapped toward Azeth.

Until Azeth was right between Takk’s jaws, he hadn’t moved.

Then he did.

Takk believed he had the upper hand. One bite should have been enough to kill someone so small.

But Azeth suddenly vanished from where he stood.

Instead, Takk bit nothing but air... and a mouthful of dust.

Azeth had bent down, scooped up a handful of dirt, and thrown it straight into Takk’s face.

"Cough! Cough! Sniff! Chu! Awoo!"

Takk began sneezing wildly, shaking his head left and right.

It was, quite frankly, embarrassing.

Azeth continued looking at the goblins.

"All of you, listen to me very carefully. My master said that as long as-"

Takk leapt forward again.

This time he used two skills in succession.

First was [Dash], which boosted his speed. He ran faster than before.

Second was [Bite].

Azeth felt Takk approaching. The subtle vibrations traveling through the ground made it obvious.

Even clearer was the voice growing louder.

"I WILL KILL YOU!!!"

Azeth didn’t turn around until Takk was almost upon him.

His expression remained calm as he continued explaining his master’s words.

Then Takk was close enough.

Azeth turned in a single motion, his jaws opening wide.

If any onlookers had been fans of romance novels, they might have thought two beasts were about to share a very aggressive French kiss.

The wolf would be the one initiating it, charging forward with his mouth wide open.

Azeth would be the one receiving it.

They would probably gasp and whisper, "Such bestiality..." before blushing.

"Such bestiality!!!"

The goblins’ faces turned an even darker shade of green.

Not from embarrassment.

For a brief moment, all light reflecting off their skin vanished.

A massive wave of black flames erupted from Azeth’s mouth.

The blast surged forward with overwhelming heat and force.

Takk had no chance.

He died before he could even scream.

The flames struck his head first.

When the fire faded and the dust settled, only Takk’s body remained.

His head was gone.

A glowing red line of incineration marked where it had once been.

His body twitched violently.

In his final moment, Takk had swallowed a mouthful of the black flames. The fire had traveled through his esophagus and into his stomach.

Then...

An explosion burst from within.

His body tore open.

Intestines, liver, pancreas, and charred flesh scattered across the ground as the corpse burst apart.

There were few others who forgot to scream. It felt as if they forgot their own voice under Azeth’s roar.

The wolves who came to hunt him whimpered, quite a few of them. The Death Wolf Erst was the only one with a strange expression and a stable tail, watching at flung body parts.

The goblins... half of them had fainted and the rest could only gasp and close their mouths shut tight.

And finally, Azeth.

He cracked his head left and right and turned back.

He then continued, "Okay, so my master said..."

At this point, no one cared what his master said.

They all had but one thing in their minds.

"If the messenger is this strong, then how strong is this master of his?"

Well...

...Erst thought something else.

He thought just one statement...

’Dragon of Nightmares...’
