Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 313: Rise
The Conquering Essence influenced and Marcus released the pent-up energy. The breath he was holding in all this while was released all at once in a deafening scream.
A tsunami of deathly aura gushed out of Marcus as he spread his wings and cried out. The Conquering Essence was doing a lot and affecting his very core personalities.
The result was immediate. The grasses beneath them that were still holding on died immediately, withering away and turning into disgusting biomass.
The tree behind Marcus collapsed and fungal dust rose into the air, the remains of a tree that was perfectly healthy a few minutes ago.
The effects of Marcus’s uncontrolled outburst of power were not limited to just those things. Sherone, who was in front of Marcus and a few creatures that were close by was also affected.
Suddenly, dozens of buffalo and zebras dropped to the ground, no longer breathing or showing any signs of life.
The scene stunned the other creatures that had been lucky to avoid the reach of Marcus’s death aura. None of them were bold enough to confront the source of this strange attack. Most of them immediately ran away from the first sign of danger, causing the area around Sherone and Marcus to become more vacant and deserted.
From above, it looked like a hole had been made in the vast herd of herbivores.
Sherone, who had received the full tint of the death essence was not unaffected. His muscles spasmed and his legs trembled as he struggled to keep himself upright.
His eyes were slowly turning grey and his thin coat of black and white fur was shrinking.
His body tried to provide a layer of protection against the death essence and the will of the lion within him also held on, pushing his body to the limits.
Despite now being at death’s door, with a wrinkling face and a decaying body, Sherone still wore a bright and crazy smile. His eyes shone with fierceness and ambition and desire.
He seemed to be unaware of all the changes happening to his body and continued looking at Marcus like a maniac. He burst out with a sickly laughter, seeing the change in expression Maris was currently having.
"YES!" Sherone shouted as the storm of death energy began to get wilder. The Conquering Essence continued to settle within Marcus. His screams were not from pain, but from his heart and mind being rid of the burdens he once had.
"...This is what you should have felt for a long time! This is what you should be doing!
You are a Primordial, a god amongst mortals. You shouldn’t feel bad for being better! They should feel bad for not being better!
No more guilt!" As Sherone spoke, the Conquering Essence finally settled within him.
"No more fear!"
Marcus stopped screaming, returning to a perfectly calm state of mind.
"No more weakness!"
Sherone’s body continued to decay and his legs began to shake badly as audible cracks could be heard from him. His bones were already finding it difficult to sustain his weight and his muscles were deteriorating at an incredible speed.
It was a miracle that he could still stand. All so that he could pass his gift to this vulture.
Marcus’s calm eyes settled on Sherone’s dying figure, an expression of shock and acceptance appearing in his eyes.
Sherone shook his head with a calm chuckle, "Don’t worry about me," He said. The movement of his head caused some tears to appear on his decaying neck, blood and white pus flowed out.
"Sherone," Marcus said, realizing that nothing could be done, "Thank you,"
Sherone coughed uncontrollably as he took multiple steps back, sensing that his body would soon give out.
"Don’t thank me yet, you can do that once you’ve done what you need to do.
My gift is only temporary and it is to help you out. Either way, now that we have met, we will surely meet again in the future.
It’s either you find me or I find you. When that time comes, I hope..."
Sherone had not finished his words when his hind legs gave out. The bones snapped and he collapsed to the ground on his side. The fall caused multiple injuries to the fragile body, Sherone was now too close to death.
"...I hope we can work together, when next we meet again..." Sherone finally completed, still wearing that fierce and confident smile on his face that made it look like he wasn’t experiencing serious pain.
Finally, his head fell and his eyes turned grey before they were covered by his eyelids. The zebra was dead.
Marcus stared at the dead zebra whose body was still decaying rapidly and sighed. He never thought he would be able to experience such clarity of mind after meeting a random stranger.
He stood there for some more seconds, digesting his new but temporary mentality.
Just then, the familiar sound of a vulture’s call echoed from the distance, entering Marcus’s ears. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Marcus turned his head, raising his eyes to see the three vultures closing in from the sky.
All had black feathers with white feather patches around the base of their necks. But one had a green head, and two had pinkish red heads.
The owls that had previously been circling Marcus and Sherone from above scattered away after receiving one last message from Sherone before he died. They had nothing to do here anymore and all that would happen with Marcus was none of their business.
Seeing the incoming flying vultures, Marcus’s eyes went cold and his aura seemed uplifted all of a sudden.
He flapped his wings, spreading the death essence around him and flying into the sky.
"Marcus! What’s wrong? What have you done?" One of the red-headed vultures asked as his eyes gazed upon the destruction caused by Marcus’s outburst.
Marcus did not answer, he flapped his wings fiercely and flew straight for the vultures with killing intent brimming within his eyes.
"Marcus? What are you doing?" The green-headed vulture asked as he noticed the oddity in Marcus’s behavior.
Marcus was closing in on them very fast and he was starting to feel a deep sense of danger.
"Die!" Marcus shouted, not hiding his intentions. Black smoke surged from his clustered inky black feathers and a gust of wind followed behind him.
*BAM!*
The three vultures were unable to react in time. Marcus crashed into one of the red-headed vultures.
Marcus was strong, stronger than all of them combined. Him smashing his body was the least lethal attack he could have used but it did serious damage.
Flames ignited on the surface of the black feathers of the red-headed vulture. But the fire died out as soon as they were born. His chest was caved in, and Marcus bit onto his neck with his powerful beak, snapping the neck into two.
The two vultures flapped their wings frantically as they moved away. They were flabbergasted, they didn’t know how to react.
They could only watch as the headless vulture fell to the ground. Death Essence surged out from the dead vulture’s body and entered Marcus’s body, filling him with more power.
His eyes gleamed with rage and satisfaction as the Conquerig Essence did its work on him, "No more! From now on, I’m in charge!"
"Marcus, what are you doing?" The green-headed vulture cried out while flapping his wings and releasing a cloud of toxic gas into the air.
The herbivore herd below could only watch all this in awe and fright, hoping that the fight would not come down to them.
The cloud of green was swept away with a powerful flap of Marcus’s wings.
The toxic properties had no effect on him. He rushed the green-headed vulture with his talons poised for an attack.
Those black talons glinted sorrowfully under the sun, giving all who looked at them the feeling of staring at an angel of death.
The green-headed vulture was naturally not going to stay there and let Marcus kill it. He swerved to the right to escape.
But perhaps, because Marcus had already toned himself down, not many knew the extent of his powers.
Marcus was like a dark light, the distance between both of them was closed in an instant. The obsidian-like talons sank straight into the vulture’s chest.
"AAARGH!" The green-headed vulture cried in pain, "Marcus, have you lost your mind? The elders will punish you!"
Marcus let out a low, deep, and melancholic chuckle, "No, in fact, I’ve gained my mind."
He drew his talons back, ripping flesh and feathers out along with it. The vulture plummeted to the ground not before exhaling some death essence which once again entered Marcus’s body.
"The elders shall punish me? No, I’ll be doing the punishing!" Marcus turned to see that the last vulture had flown away. He didn’t pursue.
He looked down at the dozens of herd creatures that had died due to his previous power outburst.
He connected himself with his Death Essence while also accepting the gift of the Conquering Essence, then he spoke.
"Rise!"
