Chapter 657: Chapter 657: Aging

What was the Chrono Signature? It was the very thing that made time travel possible.

If time were linear, then every single second that passed in the universe was being recorded and assigned a Chrono Signature.

This also applied to the creatures that existed within a certain period.

The creatures born today had a certain chrono signature that was slightly different from the creatures born yesterday.

The wider the gap between Chrono Signatures, the wider the difference and the harder it was to travel back in time.

It was like the difference between the colors blue and red. Anyone could tell that they were two completely different colors.

But if they were put on a spectrum to check what lay in between, one would notice the purple that existed in between them. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

And if one still dived deeper to observe the area in between the purple and red, and the purple and blue, one will also discover that they cannot quite tell where the blue, red, or purple ended, or where they began.

When up close, they looked very similar, but when zoomed out, there was a very slight difference and the purple might not even be noticed.

So when a tiny blue dot was moving from the blue area to the purple area, it might not be noticed immediately because it looks almost the same. But when the tiny blue dot travels further down the line of the spectrum, past the purple area and into the red area, it becomes blatantly clear that the blue dot was at a place where it did not belong.

This analogy could be reasoned in the aspect of time and Chrono Signature.

The difference between one day, one week, one year, was not that much. Like counting one to ten.

It was easy to travel back in time to these places with a low-grade time machine, if it even existed, without any issue besides the cost of energy.

But once the Chrono signature of a creature goes beyond the ten-year mark, it starts to become very clear that they were fishing in waters they did not belong to.

The farther they traveled back in time, the harsher the time friction would become. If the time-powered entity performing the time travel was not strong enough, they could be ground to dust before they crossed the first one hundred years.

The time friction from that far back alone was enough to kill both the time-powered entity and any other creature that accompanied them even though the time-powered entity was the one bearing most of the load.

Now, one could imagine just how terrifying the pressure Memphis was feeling as she crossed the five hundred thousand years mark.

It felt like every molecule in her body was being grounded and crushed individually, being forced out of a place they never belonged to.

It was a horrible feeling.

But the time friction she was experiencing was also eye-opening for her. Her mind was grasping onto every feeling, devouring every pain, every itch, every distortion to increase her understanding of time.

Kael was focused on observing the flow of time through the eyes of Memphis, so at first, he did not notice that she was starting to age at a visible rate.

His senses were constantly spread out to pick up small changes in his environment. Memphis in her defenseless state was very open to Kael.

A few seconds later, his spirit senses noticed the appearance of lines on Memphis’s face and the thinness of her hair.

Kael frowned, distracted, and turned to look at Memphis.

He was a little surprised.

Memphis was getting older right before his eyes.

She had always maintained the appearance of someone in their late twenties or early thirties.

Kael had never seen her looking slightly over forty.

And from the looks of things, the time friction was affecting her at different rates.

Her hair was rapidly turning grey and thinning out even though her face still looked middle-aged. Wrinkles were starting to appear on her skin, wrinkles that didn’t match the brightness of her eyes.

Despite her skin starting to show some signs of wrinkling, it was still tougher than a lot of building materials.

Memphis has been using her powers to maintain her life so that she can live longer. Now that she was exposed to the terrifying time friction, the time flow that kept her from aging was being worn out.

Kael observed this and knew that if things continued like this, Memphis might actually die.

He narrowed his eyes, then used his linked consciousness to do something. He altered some parts of Memphis’s power output without her knowing.

Since she was under his Conqueror’s Mode Avatar, this was not difficult for him.

He compartmentalized a part of her powers and kept it aside so that it could maintain her life while the rest was used to operate the time machine.

Memphis was too focused on the feeling she was getting from the time friction that she didn’t pay attention to all these. Or perhaps, she subconsciously knew that it was going to happen but couldn’t care less at the moment, like a cigar addict.

Meanwhile, she continued to navigate her way through the flow of time and Kael.was seeing everything she was seeing.

The images of large-scale conflicts, flames that burned the skies, peace propositions, a civilization being rebuilt, and the consequences of one person’s mistake.

Kael saw in reverse a lot of events that had taken place after the fall of the lion civilization.

Soon, Memphis finally reached a milestone, one million years into the past.

*BAM!*

A powerful force descended not just on Memphis, but on Kael too.

Kael’s body sank several meters, his feet almost touching the whirling time flow. If his body touched it with how fast they were moving, the story wouldn’t be pretty.

Kael snorted, then activated all his movement skills and abilities to stabilize himself.

He was faring better because Memphis was receiving most of the load.

But Memphis was not doing too well, she was now bleeding from every orifice on her face.
