Chapter 51: The special unit

’’Tch, it’s a waste of my time... But lucky for you, I’m not as cruel as you thought. I sincerely appreciate your help, therefore I’ll send you a support unit... You should thank me—if someone else were sitting here today, they would send you to a special unit.’’

The old soldier continued to write something on the paper as he spoke.

’’Hope that after the campaign succeeds, you can find a way to live decently.’’

Hector pressed lightly against his forehead in irritation. Veins slowly surfaced on his face. Indeed, his vessel was worse than he thought. Not only had he fallen under unfortunate circumstances, now he also faced difficulty joining the Lion Legion.

But if he accepted a support unit, what could he do? Menial work? Hauling the remains of corpses after battles?

If so, his contribution points wouldn’t be enough to put him in the top ten. He needed to become a commander if he wanted to gain that much.

However, there were still some options—even if they were quite dangerous.

’’I want to join a special unit.’’

A special unit always handled special missions. But very few people wanted to join them. After all, their missions were extremely dangerous. Every time they went out, half the force would die.

Based on his judgment, such dangerous missions must be vital ones, deciding the success of the campaign.

His contributions there could rival those of other units. At the very least, they would surely accept him.

’’Are you sure?’’ The old soldier’s face nearly scowled before Hector could answer. To him, Hector’s words were nothing but stupidity.

He spat in disgust.

’’What a waste of my kindness. If you want to die on the battlefield, I’ll satisfy you.’’

However, suddenly, a scream—like the roar of an ancient dragon—echoed through the hall.

’’FUUUUUCK YOU!... WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU TAKE ME FOR, A SLAVE? I WANT TO JOIN THE INFANTRY!

LET ME JOIN, OR I’LL KILL YOU!’’

Hector clicked his tongue in annoyance and glanced to the left. Another recruit table was in chaos. He stared at the man who was screaming and barking at the soldier.

The high-ranking soldier tumbled out of his chair, his eyes filled with panic as he looked at the man. He stammered as he shouted to call for help.

’’Soldiers! Arrest him!’’

The man, his face twisted, stepped forward, giving off the aura of an ancient beast, suffocating the soldier.

Black, reptilian scales quickly surfaced across his skin. His presence was like that of a mighty beast, one that could destroy everything.

(That man is... Carl?)

Despite being unable to recognize students by their current appearance, Hector still remembered certain traits—only theirs.

He had witnessed Carl’s power before, so he knew immediately who that man was.

(I don’t think he’s the same as me... but acting like a ruffian right now is brainless.)

As he thought, soldiers soon flooded the area to arrest Carl. Even with a divine blessing and a high mana core, Carl was still unable to face the military.

They had been trained to deal with far stronger individuals.

(I don’t care. His luck will guarantee him a spot in the infantry no matter what. But if I act recklessly like that, I’ll just be cutting my own life short.)

’’Follow me.’’ the old soldier said and left his chair.

Under the old soldier’s guidance, Hector quickly entered the stronghold to rejoin his unit.

When he reached the middle of the path inside the stronghold, sudden impacts rang out as weapons clashed.

The sounds formed a beautiful, almost soothing rhythm—yet death stirred Hector’s fighting instinct. He glanced toward their source.

Sparks burst from the weapons, filling the air, etching a gorgeous picture of warriors locked in combat.

The uproar spread through the soldiers in the stands as they watched the swordsmen fighting in the yard.

’’Come on! My lady, defeat him!’’

a soldier shouted.

’’My commander is the strongest! Crush her into pieces!’’

’’You bastard! How dare you insult my lady.’’

another soldier barked in fury.

’’Just accept the truth—my commander’s stronger than yours!’’

’’I’ll kill you!’’

The soldier threw a punch at him. Meanwhile, others shouted, cheering them on.

On the fighting yard, the two combatants began to stop.

A girl with long black hair slowly dismissed her weapon in midair. Her white armor, delicately carved with fine lines, also dissipated. Soon, the graceful curves of a beautiful woman were revealed.

Nearly all the soldiers dropped their jaws when they saw her.

’’You went easy on me again, Violet.’’

Violet frowned.

’’It seems you don’t fear being expelled from this world, Molly.’’

Molly smirked.

’’Come on, Lady... we have to exploit the rules.’’

Sure enough, as long as they didn’t provocatively reveal their names or anything tied to the real world, they would be fine.

However, how could they know each other’s names? It was a simple question.

Combat techniques and mana cores.

Violet and Molly were on the same team, so they knew each other very well. Plus, their ranks on the list were top one and top two; it wasn’t hard to figure out their identities.

Nine mana cores and eight mana cores. They were the only ones on the list with such numbers.

However, those below the list couldn’t know.

It was a disadvantage for the strongest.

Molly licked his lips greedily as he glanced at Violet’s seductive figure while she left the fighting yard.

She was powerful.

She was beautiful.

She was cold.

The kind of girl that any boy in the whole world wanted to conquer... However, the moment such thoughts crossed his mind, he thought one.

Hector.

The rumor had already spread throughout the academy that he had molested her. Molly truly wanted to kill that bastard, but because of the academy’s rules, he had no chance.

He wanted to bully that bastard inside the academy—or kill him secretly outside—but for some reason, he couldn’t find him, as if he had vanished like the wind.

Moreover, Hector had returned to the Jenkins Clan and was once again protected by rules.

There was no chance at all.

’’I don’t need to worry. That brainless bastard probably already failed the first round. With four mana cores, what the hell can he do? ...Trash will always be trash.’’
