Chapter 57: Chapter 57

"He is not alone,"

Captain Evan said as he and his team stepped out from the shadows behind Jonathan.

At that moment Jonathan’s heart skipped a beat.

He turned around sharply, and for a second, his mouth parted but no words came out. Captain Evan... he was alive. Not just him but the whole squad. Dressed in their combat gear, standing strong, eyes cold but focused. Jonathan couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He had prepared himself to die alone today.

He took a step back, stunned.

"You’re... you’re alive?" he asked quietly, like he still needed to confirm it with his own ears.

Captain Evan gave a short nod.

"They tried to trap us. Same as you. But they failed."

Jonathan’s chest rose and fell with a shaky breath.

"I thought after what Jonah did after what happened in the blueprint sector I thought you were gone."

"We almost were," Captain Evan said, his voice rough with memories. "But we weren’t the only ones betrayed. Jonah wanted to clean out anyone loyal to General Royce. I should’ve seen it sooner."

At that moment Jonathan clenched his fists.

"He turned us into bait."

Evan looked him in the eyes.

"And now we bait the ones who think we’re broken."

Suddenly, a laugh echoed from across the open field.

Alphacrest Elite Squad Captain, Jake Reed, stood watching them like a predator who wasn’t impressed by the noise of smaller animals. His arms were folded, and a smirk played on his lips as he stepped forward.

"So the rats crawled out of the drain," Jake said, his voice deep and soaked in arrogance. "Nice. Makes it more fun when we crush you."

One of Evan’s men growled lowly, but Evan lifted a hand and kept them steady.

Jake scanned them all, shaking his head with mocking pity.

"You Dreamway soldiers. Always thinking numbers change the fight. You’re weak in squads, you’re weak alone, and you’re weak even when you show up for each other."

Then Jake pointed at Jonathan.

"Tell me something, soldier," he said. "When your so-called allies left you behind, how did it feel?"

However Jonathan didn’t answer. He didn’t have to. His silence was enough.

Jake chuckled.

"Exactly. Useless."

He turned his head to Evan and took another step closer.

"It doesn’t matter who showed up. I’ve fought Dreamway squads. I’ve fought Dreamway captains. None of them could last more than five minutes against my team."

Evan’s jaw tensed, but Jake kept talking.

"If Dreamway wants a real challenge," Jake said as his smile darkened, "they need to send a general. Not leftovers. Not survivors. A general. Only then will I consider it a real fight."

Then, like a final stab, he pointed his finger directly at Evan and Jonathan.

"Because you two? You’re just warm-ups."

At that moment Captain Evan couldn’t help but laugh.

It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t the kind of laugh that came from amusement. It was quiet mocking and carried the weight of someone who had heard enough nonsense.

He shook his head slowly, brushing dust off his shoulder like Jake’s words were nothing but air. Then he raised his eyes, sharp and cold, locking straight onto Jake.

"You must be joking," Evan said calmly. "Is that what you tell yourself to sleep at night? That you’ve seen what Dreamway can offer?"

Jake narrowed his eyes, his smirk faltering just slightly.

Evan took a step forward.

"You haven’t seen anything. If you think this is all Dreamway has to offer, then you’ve never seen our Taskforce Unit in action. And just so you know..."

He paused, letting his next words drop like a thunderclap.

"...they’re the lowest unit in our Military Academy."

That sentence changed everything.

Jake blinked. His team glanced at each other, their arrogance cracking for the first time. A seed of doubt was planted.

But Evan wasn’t done.

"You’re fighting students," he said. "Not even the best of them. Just the ones in training."

Before Jake or anyone could respond, a loud rumble suddenly shook the ground.

Then came a shout.

"NOW!"

Immediately two figures jumped out from behind Captain Evan swift, focused, and merciless.

It was Willow and Ezra.

Willow was the first to land, her fingers slamming into the ground with deadly precision. Her brown eyes glowed with magic as the earth beneath her responded like a loyal beast. Huge cracks tore through the field as jagged rocks burst up from the soil.

With a roar, a massive earth wall rose high higher than a building stretching across the battlefield in seconds. Alphacrest’s soldiers tried to react, but it was too late. The wall curled around them like a dome, rising above and closing overhead.

Ezra, at the same time, somersaulted over Jake’s squad and launched himself backwards into the air, his daggers glowing with red energy, but this time, he didn’t attack. He was guarding Willow.

The earth wall, now glowing with ancient runes, trembled for a moment... and then sealed completely.

The battlefield was gone.

In its place stood a giant earth ball, completely surrounding both Dreamway and Alphacrest soldiers no one could enter, and no one could leave.

From outside, it looked like a boulder the size of a fortress had risen from the ground.

Inside... chaos was just beginning.

At that moment Ezra raised his hand slowly, and a red light flickered at his fingertips.

Then, with a sharp twist of his wrist, he unleashed his magic.

Immediately a bright surge exploded from his palm like a pulse of living energy. The entire space inside the giant earth ball once dark and silent suddenly lit up, as if someone had turned on the sun inside a cave.

The dirt walls shimmered, glowing with flickering runes carved by Willow’s magic. The ground itself hummed under the pressure of Ezra’s light magic, pushing back the shadows that had swallowed everything seconds ago.

Now fully illuminated, the space looked even more terrifying. There was nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide.

And standing right at the center of the light was Captain Evan.

He walked forward slow, composed, and confident. His boots echoed lightly on the ground. His hands moved in a small, almost lazy circle, a slight show of the glowing aura around his fingers.

His face was calm, but his eyes burned like fire.

"My team doesn’t like to talk," he said, voice deep and steady. "We do all we want by action."

As soon as those words landed, chaos broke out.

Willow slammed her palms into the ground again. Spikes erupted beneath the enemy’s feet.

Ezra vanished in a flash of light, reappearing behind two Alphacrest elites, spinning his daggers in his hands.

Evan shot forward like a storm, fists wrapped in bluish-white flame, his figure blurring with speed as he tore toward Jake and his squad.

The Dreamway team moved as one a perfect machine with no wasted motion, no hesitation. They didn’t even need to speak. Every attack was sharp. Every movement was deadly. They were trained not just to fight, but to dominate.

At that moment Jake’s eyes widened as he watched them come.

He couldn’t believe it. This wasn’t a group of low-ranking academy soldiers. This was a surgical strike team, and they had just trapped them inside a giant cage.

"Their timing... their power... this isn’t possible," Jake muttered.

But he quickly dropped his doubts and took a long, controlled breath. Then he opened his arms wide.

A cold gust rushed through the earth ball. It didn’t come from above it came from Jake.

The moment he exhaled, the wind howled like it was alive.

And then they came.

From the cracks in the ground and walls, from the holes in the corners of the battlefield... hundreds of giant rats surged out, their glowing red eyes filling the dome with horror. Sharp teeth, twisted tails, and bodies as big as wolves. They crawled, leapt, and slithered across the walls, covering every inch of the space.

The air turned cold.

The earth shook beneath their claws.

In seconds, the entire battlefield was buried beneath fur, fangs, and shadows.

Jake narrowed his eyes and let out a small chuckle, cold and confident.

"You know," he said, his voice echoing around the earth dome, "I’m not even inside this ball with you. But that doesn’t matter. I can still take control of everything in here."

The words were casual, but they struck deep.

Jonathan’s face tightened with confusion.

"Wait... he’s not in here?"

Captain Evan’s brow furrowed, and his squad immediately shifted their stances. Willow’s fingers twitched, ready to summon more earth. Ezra stopped mid-step and scanned the space again. They had assumed Jake was inside with them. But he wasn’t at least, not physically.

Still, his power was present.

The rats that filled the battlefield growled and hissed louder, as if possessed. Their movements became sharper, more organized more dangerous. It was clear now: Jake was controlling them from outside, possibly projecting his will through some unseen force or magical bond.

The moment the rats lunged forward to strike sharp teeth open wide and claws raised high Evan moved.

But this time, it wasn’t flashy.

It wasn’t fast, It was deliberate.

He stood in place, fists lowered, and slowly lifted one arm. A deep, vibrating hum spread through the air. His body lit up with a dark-blue aura, his veins glowing with crackling power.

Evan exhaled slowly, and in a calm voice that only the closest to him could hear, he muttered,

"Giant... punch... attack."

And then he vanished.

To the rats, it was like a lightning strike. They didn’t even have time to react. A single punch dropped from the sky like a falling meteor its force so devastating that the entire inside of the dome shook violently.

"BOOM!"
