Chapter 143: Arc 3, Chapter 53: Cheesewisk

’Everything’s going smoothly. Now comes the actual hard part.’ Horses reared up to gentle brushing and feeding. Uniforms in brown camo, adorning the emblem of Cravolta and Galuvit—soldiers ran and tested equipment. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

The office sat in the front while a short warehouse sat at the corner of the fenced off area—the morning Sun beaming down.

Firearms were being assembled and disassembled, canons, sandbags and artificial cover were being boarded into reinforced carts. Screams resonated across from the laps of running soldiers.

"Major Rashaad Schroeder?" Jotou called out.

The major turned, dark skin and brown eyes, the same camo attire as before. "Yes, that’s me. You must be Ms Howllett and party?" his eyebrows raised.

"That’s us," Hotaru took off her sunhat, bought earlier in the morning. Fumeko with her hair tied into twin-tails, cut shorter and Asobi in her usual magician’s attire and hat made by illusions.

The major stepped forward, reaching his hand out, "The minister informed me of your assistance. It’s a pleasure to be fighting alongside you Thundering Blade."

Jotou shook back, "Pleasure’s all mine. Major, if you don’t mind, can we speak privately? I have intel on the rogue battalion I wish to share."

The major showed a hint surprise, "If this is of the upmost priority, then yes. My office will do fine."

"My party will be with me, so if you wish to bring someone else as well, like a trusted soldier or a first lieutenant that would be fine."

_

First Lieutenant Cayson Knox stood to the side of the room; the other four in front of the major’s desk whilst the major stood behind it.

Fumeko placed all the things she stole onto the desk, "The minister of Hartamat had dealings with the rogue battalion lieutenant.

He’s getting paid to set up this travel ban and have Trailon soldiers pose as Hartamat Defence Force soldiers in the middle of the roads out of Hartamat," Fumeko shifted back after saying.

The major furrowed his brows, opening up the documents and files, scanning them over. "It’s all a part of an experiment in which Trailon resets everything that happens in this battle.

I can attest to it because I remember everything; this will be your sixth time fighting the rogue battalion and if you win, they will simply reset everything and try again.

I’m sure you woke up with a headache today major, and so did First Lieutenant Knox over there," Jotou gave a glance as Knox narrowed his gaze.

The major took a step back, "These, documents appear official... I’m sorry, this is all a bit, overwhelming."

"Trust me, it is," Fumeko crossed her arms.

The major looked to Jotou, "How is it that you can remember? Is there any proof to these claims?"

’Expected.’ Jotou grinned back to Knox, "Well, I know he’s a big fan of me." Knox’s eyes widened, trying to blend into the background of the wall.

"Also the headaches and whatnot. Last time I talked to you, in a moment we didn’t have much time in, I said I could travel through time—to make it easier to explain to you.

The truth is, Trailon has a device that’s reverting every outcome back to the morning of August 19th. My affinity protects me from things that can affect my mind, so it can’t revert my memories."

’Not exactly true... But easier to explain. Some kind of magic IS protecting my mind from being memory wiped, but it’s whatever magic that brought me into this world.

That’s not really something I need to tell the major to make him believe me. I already told the other three about what I’m going to say. This is all definitely way easier after talking to them about everything.’

"I see..." the major squinted to the documents.

"And to alleviate any sense of conspiracy, that we would try and meddle in your politics, here are our travel documents and our intended destination.

You can also cite the Altanor and Kria Daily on news of our whereabouts. We were in Kria after a major battle; there’s no possibility of us forging any of these documents," Hotaru placed them on the table.

The major exhaled, "I don’t see any reason for you to be lying. You snuffed out Trailon’s secret operation in Kria and pulled the plug on all the conspiracies surrounding it.

It’s more believable that this is one of your endeavours in stopping the Regime rather than conducting an operation against us. And these travel documents are clearly to Galuvit Town."

"Oh, and also, you said to mention the word, ’Cheesewisk’?" Both the first lieutenant and the major glanced up, the other three still confused about the word.

"I’m not exactly sure what it means, but you asked me to use it as a codeword to let you know I’m telling you the truth," Jotou shrugged.

"That’s... the name of my cat..." the major took a breath, "I didn’t need any more reasons to believe you, but that certainly seals it... Would you mind sharing the information you know, please?" the major cleared his throat.

_

"That went well," Hotaru walked down the near empty road with the rest.

"And you’re sure telling him everything was the right decision?" Fumeko glanced to the blonde.

Jotou pouted, "I can’t be sure, but I think telling him was the right thing. They can plan ahead for all incoming attacks and not have suspicion on our intel.

Plus, he agreed when I told him we shouldn’t take action on the minister till this is all over. And also not to send any troops out to the grass border. I told him what I could, the rest is out of my control."

"I think you did really well!" Asobi hopped to walk backwards.

Fumeko leered to an oncoming figure, knowing what’s to come. Shadows already trailed along her footsteps.

Hotaru retwisted her scarf-like sleeves that spiralled down her arms, "If we ever do get Meko and Sobi adventuring attire, I’m going to have to change my sleeve design; maybe a button or a pin at least."

"Ooo! I want, a white shirt, a black bowtie, a blazer, a skirt, white stockings, a hat and just to change things up a bit, actual kitten heels!"

"First of all, that’s what you wear all the time; second, fighting with heels is probably not the best idea," Jotou raised a brow.

The brunette’s brown eyes caught the small hooded figure beginning to speed up. Shadows took her form, "Oh no you don’t!" Fumeko blinked and grabbed the figure by the wrist.

The boy halted immediately, throwing his hands up—a tail behind him; the dagger in his other hand dropped. "Tink!"

The other three watched as Fumeko demasked the hood. Tanned skin, some black hair and under his ears were emerald green scales that went under his clothing.

The reptilian tail stood sharp in shock. Fumeko gripped his wrist, "You’re coming with me kid," Fumeko glared to the part-human boy shorter than her.

The other three glanced at the scene, knowing already what was going to happen; it did not really startle them... "What are you gonna say to the police Meko? He had a dagger? You have the same..." Hotaru squinted.

"Attempted theft, obviously," Fumeko stood proud, his wrist still in her grasp. The boy glanced back and forth, wide-eyed.

"You should’ve waited till he tried to steal it detective. We know he’s guilty, the police need evidence," Jotou added.

"Ugh, why do you even steal?" Fumeko glared back to the boy.

"I-I," he squeaked, "My family’s got nothing to eat, we don’t even have a house." Fumeko pulled him tighter as he squirmed.

Jotou walked to him, grabbing the boy’s other wrist, "I know you’re lying kid. What will your parents think about you skipping school, huh? Maybe I should take you to your house; I know where you live after all."

A grin grew on Fumeko, seeing the blonde intimidate. The boy’s eyes widened, his heartbeat was nearly audible to them. He began struggling his wrists.

"If you do this again, I will get the police, I will tell your parents and they’re going to lock you up forever, understand? Go," Jotou released his wrist as did Fumeko.

"I’m sorry! Please don’t!" his mouth ran as fast as his legs did down the road, his tail shivering behind him.

A spark of electricity went over her blonde strands, warning of her, "Ah!" of the pinch to her ear.

"What the hell was that?" Hotaru twisted Jotou’s ear.

"Jotou, you became, scary..." Asobi hid behind her wand.

Jotou winced, but with a smile, "Sorry, sorry, I couldn’t help it."

"I think Jotou did everything right, so let her go wolfy~" Fumeko smirked.

The light chuckled was contagious, catching onto Hotaru. Hotaru shut her lips, shaking her head, "Idiot," she let Jotou’s ear go before giving a light bump to her shoulder, "Don’t do that."

Jotou laughed, "I won’t, I won’t. Come on Sobi, I’m not scary."

"Mmm... I’m sticking next to Hotaru," she coyishly hid behind the redhead.

"Hmph, come on Asobi, we have lunch to decide," Hotaru swayed her tail as she walked ahead with the magician—a slight smile on her lips.

"I was just having a little fun. That kid was literally stealing for no reason. I mean, maybe his home life was bad; okay, I, ugh..."

"Don’t worry, it was really fun. She just doesn’t see it. It’s not like we were bullying, he was gonna steal from us," Fumeko held Jotou’s coat and pulled her to walk along.

Jotou pouted... "Yeah, no, I feel bad now; Hotaru!" Jotou began running after. The redhead giggled to herself.
