Chapter 220: Arc 4, Act II, Chapter 65: Allies and Conspirators

"Northern Cravolta can muster multiple unused forces to give us a few platoons, in total four hundred soldiers; all equipped with weaponry and standard training regimens.

Within them are two expert level casters who have healing affinities and an intermediate caster with a summoning affinity who can provide water to their forces.

Northern Cravolta wishes it can aid more, but they are not too keen to split their forces thinly with the threat of the Vandlevela Regime looming over them," Feyan laid out the documents.

Some council members, several Royal Guard and a part of the Royal Ministry categorized the responses they had of their allies who would aid in the Royal Ministry’s meeting room.

"Of course, they request to do this. If her majesty wishes for Northern Cravolta to aid with more, they would comply," the Minister of Defence, Matrum Asad, replied.

"Count?" Daiyu turned.

Count Khalim adjusted his monocle, "I would not push them to deplete their resources. However, it would be best that if any emergency is to occur, that Northern Cravolta has a reserve they can send on a whim."

"Sounds good just in case. We’d need a quick way to contact them if they need to fill in; a radio isn’t reaching that far I think." Daiyu replied.

"A radio would reach around two hundred kilometres, a transceiver a little over a quarter of that. We could also bounce message to message from various points where we can station a few soldiers," the Chief of Army, Anek Egebe, spoke.

"A game of telephone huh?"

Archduke Guuraj winced his eyes and chuckled, "In my time in the army they tried that plan. If one station is out of order or the transmission is interrupted, the plan is in shambles. I would suggest magic couriers from the Ordinate perhaps?"

"Actually, Detective Namora has a mobility affinity. And I believe the Thundering Blade’s party were off to the grand library yesterday to study some magic to bolster our magical potential in the battle.

If one were to simply teach her the spell, she could easily carry any messages to any of the separate battlements," Feyan proposed.

A knock at the door to which Arabella turned. The Royal Guard outside opened the doors to let in Jotou and Fumeko, eyes narrowed on both their faces.

"Speak of the devil," Daiyu muttered.

"I heard detective, I know I heard it," Fumeko leered to the room.

"Uh, yes," Feyan cocked his head. "What brings you two here?"

"I thought I was invited," Jotou shrugged. "Hotaru’s with Asobi training with the countess. We..."

"Have some important stuff, but what’s going on in here?" Fumeko crossed her arms, glancing at documents everywhere and nearly everyone standing around the table as opposed to sitting.

"We’re looking at allies; all the countries that responded to our aid," Daiyu faced back.

"Assessing everything we have before making the plans then?" Jotou walked in with the brunette as the door shut behind them.

"Pretty much."

"We were discussing if you would be able to learn a spell Detective Namora, something that would allow letters or notes to be sent across thousands of kilometres."

"Definitely, that should be child’s play to a magical practitioner of my calibre," Fumeko held her chin high.

"She tried to spider walk up a wall and fell on the back of her head."

"HEY!"

The archduke laughed, "It is alright, we have the time."

"And it’s only in an emergency scenario. Shall we also have a trail of radio posts till Northern Cravolta then?" the defence minister queried.

"If we have the resources to expend. Perhaps we discuss this after the larger plan is made?" Count Khalim posed.

"No point in having emergency measures if we don’t have the first measures," the blonde chimed in.

"Yup. We’ll keep it on the drawing board. Who else do we have replies from?" Daiyu turned to the foreign affairs minister.

The minister, Hasani Phiri, hummed as he flipped the papers for his notes, "Kria can spare a small platoon of Krialin, iiit’s understandable due to their circumstances. It’s honestly a surprise they’d even offer.

Kria has never participated in the war buttt I suppose after the initial attack on them-"

Arabella snapped her fingers with glazed over eyes.

"-Right, right, yes admiral, I should stay on topic. Burnetrout can send approximately one thousand seven hundred foot soldiers, all armed though they request ammunition to be provided.

The Grand Alderman, Lady Pinberry, stated since she the Burntish forces are more equipped for naval battles, they don’t get to use their land forces much- Apologies, moving on.

Luxinor has promised great aid and requested some time to provide the total count, including men, weaponry, magic users and supplies—said by his majesty himself.

Nirenus has abstained from aid, they’re a poor country as it is. Avon has given the same response. Supreme Leader Vsevolod Fedorka says he requires the forces to focus on the Vandlevela Regime."

"How’re we supposed to plan without all the factors?" Fumeko furrowed her brows.

"We can plan some things. It’s not like the gameplan’s hinging on them; we’re the main competitors, they’re the reserve," Daiyu waved her hand.

"Precisely," Count Khalim nodded. "There are multiple scenarios we can plan for, with or without knowing what aid Luxinor may provide."

"Not to mention to what extent that aid will be," the defence minister added.

"I think the aid’ll be enough," Jotou had crossed her arms, watching the scene. "We should go ahead and plan every single thing and let Luxinor join in where it can."

"Modifying the plan as it goes? I like it," Daiyu grinned.

"How can you be sure what Luxinor will provide will not be plentiful? Having that within the plans can create complex strategies that would aid us," a minister spoke.

"I’m not saying it won’t be, I’ve met the king. He doesn’t strike me as someone who’d skimp out on this. Whatever Luxinor will provide will be a lot.

I’m giving my two copper pieces here, but Cravolta currently’s under threat by two regimes—one that Luxinor’s also fighting. It only benefits them to take another enemy off the map.

If Luxinor aids us, it benefits both Cravolta and them. It also allows Cravolta to strengthen its forces towards Vandlevela. Sure, if we know what we’re working with, we can make more detailed plans.

But I think it’s better to plan with what we have and exclude what Luxinor provides entirely for now. Think of everything we can do without their help.

In the battle, we can gauge the enemy and know their strength. No matter how much we plan, there will be discrepancies that we can’t plan for.

Having a somewhat secure plan without Luxinor involved makes us have an abundance of backup in case things go bad. Make our plans flexible and allow for Luxinor to fit in wherever they please.

It would only make Cravolta’s forces and Luxinor more confident in the battle. They’re giving aid to something that’s convinced itself it doesn’t require it, but would appreciate it.

Not to mention, if our plans somehow get leaked, we know for certain it’s not our full plan and that we have a spontaneous surprise for the enemy and ourselves. It’d only make whatever we plan stronger not worse."

With a smile from ear to ear, "Hmph," Daiyu looked back to the room. "I trust his judgement and confidence is key. The more morale our country has, the more likely that it won’t give up till the end.

We need to make sure they know what they’re fighting for, give them the energy they need to defend and attack.

Which means, huge benefits for the soldiers and their families, proper honour and fame and lots of prep time with full delicious meals to get them ready for a good fight."

"Understood," the defence minister nodded to the princess then to Jotou.

"Well put Thundering Blade," Count Khalim replied before scanning over the documents. "Then we can start planning to split out forces; water will be a very important resource to manage in the plateaus."

"We came here for a reason you know?" Fumeko’s eyes rolled.

"Yes Detective Namora, what is it?"

"Well, while the gala was going on and there were guests galore, I had my own mission. Finding out any corruption within the officials.

Jotou thought that now might be the time to tell you Daiyu. There’s been some corrupt people working in the Council of Cravolta other than Saady."

Daiyu’s eyes widened, everyone in the room glanced to the two that had entered recently. "Wait, you’re telling me now? Why the fu- fudge didn’t you say it before?"

"Because I wanted to see what’d happen when we met with Trailon."

"And we wanted to gain all the intel we could; if we exposed one of them, then the others would get defensive," Fumeko reasoned.

"It’s like Feyan said, there’s bound to be corruption at the top," the blonde replied.

Feyan shied his eyes away.

Jotou continued, "With the Keya couple, the betrayal of the Royal Guard and staff, the public’s opinions and protestors, the council being undetermined about you...

Any more complications would’ve only, well, complicated things. Point is, with Trailon visiting we couldn’t let the public or them know of the problems we had cause it would put us in a tough spot.

Now, a final battle has been declared. We can expunge any of the corrupt officials; think about it, if they’re exploiting their position right now, our plans could crumble."

"Leaking intel, faulty and cheap equipment, disappearance of money and expensive assets; if we don’t pull the plug now some asshat’s gonna work with Trailon and be a mole, who knows?" Fumeko listed off.

"Right... We have spies too, would make sense Trailon has some," Daiyu held the bridge of her nose.

"Our spies should be gathering what intel they can, but nothing is promised," the defence minister replied.

"I believe it would be best to find these corrupt individuals who are against the crown," a smoke of shadow went over Feyan’s eyes. "And not revealing them; we should keep this secret till the battle is done."

"You can’t be serious, we can’t keep letting people like this get away!"

"It is not ’getting away’ my lady."

"We should take them away from a position of power and keep an eye on them at all times," the archduke voiced. "Until the battle is over, then we make a public announcement."

Daiyu huffed a grunt, purplish gem-like ripples flickering in her eyes, "I... so hate this. But I get it, alright? Panic means less confidence in our forces, I get it," she seethed. "Doesn’t mean I gotta be happy about it!"

"Hey princess, only the people in this room know. So, if you wanna come on a few manhunts and get that rage out of you~?" Jotou smirked.

The angered teeth exposed more as the lips curled upwards, steam releasing from her breath, "I’m getting my greatsword."
