Reincarnated Into A Dead Woman's Body In Another World-Chapter 308: Arc 5, - 2: Goodbye Tamara Palace
"How’re you doing psychopath?" Jotou waltzed into the princess’s bedroom.
The purple-haired princess sat at her desk, pinching the bridge of her nose. To the voice her brows raised and she turned, "Not too shabby Joey Toes. The trip to Galuvit’s just giving me a major headache."
"What happened there?" the blonde’s feet sunk into the carpets as she traipsed.
Daiyu got onto her feet, "Considering the threat’s gone and Tri-Regime’s the Di-Regime, all’s well. But there’s still so much bullshit to deal with.
There’re a lot of Trailonians who moved in basically; I mean like, it’s been forty-three years so there’s a lot of people who were born, died—decades went by.
So like, giving Cravoltan citizenship is one thing, but what am I gonna do? Separate families because there’re still Trailonian citizens there? Deport them? Come on," she huffed. "While I was visiting, right, there were protestors all over the place.
In a sense, they kinda just want to be left alone. But on the council side of things, that is Cravoltan land needing to be reclaimed. It’s all a fucking political mess, UGH!"
"Hmm," Jotou sat on her bed with a bounce. "Well, I know Cravolta and Trailon aren’t at war anymore. Realistically speaking, you can open up negotiations with Trailon to find some sort of compromise and help citizens of both sides?
The prime minister would probably accept a proposal like that; not by the kindness of his heart obviously, but it’s just a good political move.
It might help them get back in the world’s good graces now that they’ve lost all support. Meanwhile, you have the backing of several nations; the odds are in your favour," Jotou spouted.
"Hm, that’s true," Daiyu pondered. "Might be a good idea actually. After forty-three years... Maybe, maybe they can just, be like, their own thing? Just keep the border, like a new state? New country?
Eh, I’ll think it out with Feyan," she shook her head. "Anyways, whatcha doin’ here?"
"I’m leaving Tamara Palace."
Daiyu’s gut wrenched; her wide-eyed stare kept looking to the resting face of the blonde, "Hell... you could’ve said that a little less blunt."
"What? Too surprising for the Undying Princess?" she stuck her tongue out. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Daiyu responded in kind. She snapped out of her shock, "To where? And how long will you be gone?"
"No clue about the second," she shrugged, "As for the first, Burnetrout," she took out a note from her skirt pocket and handed it, "This is where we’ll be going—Fumeko’s house."
Daiyu took the note with the address, "22 Fleur Boulevard, Dolpool, North End, Burnetrout."
"If you need to reach me; I’ll update if our location changes."
"It’s the 28th, so you leaving on the 31st or something?"
"Today actually. Hotaru’s buying us train tickets as we speak."
She folded her arms, "What’s the rush? Stay here and leave tomorrow at least."
"It’s a twelve-hour trip either way, doesn’t matter when we leave, we’re gonna be tired once we reach. Besides," Jotou smiled, "I’ve been here for five months; it’s the longest place I’ve stayed put in this world."
Daiyu sighed—there was not much to say to that.
"More importantly, Meko’s dad sent a letter and she has a graduation she has to get to on the 5th."
"Huh, so that’s the reason. Fumes’s dad?"
"Kazuo Namora, greatest detective in Burnetrout."
"That adds up a lotta things about her," Daiyu grinned. "I’ll send some graduation gift in the mail then."
"Aru says there’s an Adventurers Guild in Burnetrout, so I might check it out; stay there for a bit and do some commissions. But let’s be honest, when’s anything gone that smoothly to plan?" Jotou’s eyes glazed over.
"You think some problem’s gonna come up?"
"Maybe it’s me being paranoid, eugh..." Jotou stood up from the bed. "Also," she looked Daiyu in the eyes. "If we’re looking for the other three."
Daiyu snorted, "You kiddin’? My name’s flying through Cravolta and yours should be pretty popular. If they still haven’t made their way here, they gotta be living under some rock."
"Then I’ll just have to flip every one. I have to look for them. It’s about time I keep moving," she spun her words with a small spark in her eyes.
The princess’s lips softly curled up, "Hey; if you find them, let’s all meet back here alright? I know a palace isn’t exactly a mansion, but."
"It’s a pretty good substitute, yeah," the blonde giggled. "I will; I promise," the same bittersweet smile painted itself across her lips—perhaps with the honeyed flavour of hope.
She looked over Jotou one more time, from head-to-toe... Slowly she shifted her head from side-to-side and grappled Jotou into a hug to conceal her tears behind her head.
The blonde’s eyes welled up, but she only laughed and hugged back, "What? You’re not gonna see me out?"
"Shut it smart-ass," she held tighter, like she was about to crack her bones. Jotou grimaced through the embrace till it lightened and she could let out a large breath again. "I love you. Don’t do anything fucking stupid."
"Same goes to you idiot," Jotou rested her chin on the princess’s shoulder. "Love you too."
...
"So, you gonna let me go pack or?"
"A few more seconds ain’t gonna kill ya."
_
"Well, I decided to go back to adventuring since my work was less needed, but looks like I’m completely resigning," Hotaru had her bags out the door.
"I am well aware of the situation Ms Hotaru. I must thank you for your service; if you ever need work," Feyan offered.
"I’ll know where to go," her tail wagged.
Feyan nodded with a small smile, "I shall await your departure then," he bowed his head and left.
Jotou rolled a suitcase to the front of her bed—much larger than the one she arrived to the palace with. She glanced to her pillows and realized she almost missed something.
She leaned over the sheets and picked up the plush puppy. She glanced at its missing eye. ’Still must be cool to get a view of a place like this huh?
I’ll have to leave Orion behind, but you’ll adventure with me.’ She opened up her luggage and tossed the blonde toy in before zipping it up again.
She observed the room she had stayed in—the soft carpets, the massive bed, a beautiful balcony. ’It was nice to get a taste of luxury. Hmm. Maybe in some alternate life I would’ve made a choice to stay here for a very long time. It wouldn’t be bad at all.’
The blonde grazed her fingertips along the curtains of the canopy till she could hold the firm bedpost. ’But is this a life for me...? I don’t think so.
Can’t stay in one place too long... The life of an adventurer. Even if that wasn’t the case, this is all too much for me. Hm~ I wonder where my adventure will take me next. More so, I wonder where I’ll call my final home.’
"Jotou c’mon, time’s ticking," Hotaru tapped her wristwatch at the door—amused by watching the blonde stare at the ceiling.
The blonde glanced to the wolf-girl, "Coming." She grabbed her luggage off the floor and rolled it out the door.
_
"Niah!"
"Yes!?" the cat-girl responded to the third time they called. She groggily got up and looked down from the second floor of the library.
"We’re leaving!" Jotou yelled up.
"Hm, hm... Goodbye, have a safe trip to Burnetrout," Niah echoed down before disappearing from sight. The people in the library raised a brow, the old librarian gave a small wave to them.
"Well, that was as much as a goodbye I expected from the Head Librarian," Jotou uttered.
"You hoped for something more?" Hotaru’s ears flickered.
"She’s dreadfully lazy for someone so diligent, isn’t she?" a voice danced around the corner of the entrance. Right at the entrance, Countess Keya stood by, "Finally departing?" She eyed the hairpin of two multi-petalled flowers atop the blonde’s head.
"That we are—to Burnetrout," Hotaru answered.
"So I’ve heard. It’s a shame you cannot stay here for longer; both your presences certainly helped the ongoings around here," the conversation grew into a whisper.
Hotaru’s fangs glistened, "Thank you."
"Well, not everyone knows the sacrifice you made," Jotou hushed.
"Shush," the countess’s eyes widened for a second in warning. Her elegant smile returned, "You never know who’s listening."
"Worried are you~?" Jotou smirked.
The blonde’s impish expression made her scoff, "Perhaps it’s for the best that you’re taking your leave."
"Aww, and here I thought you’d miss me~"
"Jotou..." Hotaru pouted.
Jotou giggled.
The countess narrowed her gaze, "Some nerve."
"She’s been this bratty all morning," Hotaru sighed.
"Well, you should be the one to tame her vexatious and naughty behaviour today as well then," the countess hummed into a grin.
Hotaru blushed and chuckled, "I agree~"
Her giggles died down and Jotou knitted her brows as she heard the two, "H-hey..."
Shadows appeared and reappeared down the hallway till they paused and revealed a brunette at the library’s entrance, "Asobi’s already waiting in the foyer," she informed.
"Ah yes, tell her to keep practicing her spells and that she’s a wonderful student," the countess smiled.
"Right. Were you just saying goodbyes?" Fumeko queried.
"Yes we were dear," the countess took a breath. "It’s about time then. In case you don’t run into my husband, I’ll say it for the both of us. Bye for now dears. Safe travels—take care of yourselves."
