Chapter 387: Arc 6, Chapter 3: Grand Proclamation

Dust cleared way for the drake to come into view. Screams of terror were drowned out by the quaking building and gunshots. While bullets barely made a scratch, one purplish bullet seemed to pierce its scales.

One that was fired off from a bronze-gold pistol, though it did nothing against the gigantic reptile’s hide. Not like Kazuo was aiming for it in the first place; the small ring of purple light on his gun went dim and began reforming.

He grunted, "Coates those guns aren’t gonna do much, focus on evacuating." He aimed his pistol down and rushed out of the row of seats.

Commissioner Coates had his hand up to his mouth as he coughed out, "Escort everyone out, you are not to engage the, the dragon!"

Following that order, the police retreated and attempted to pull anyone out with them. However, many attendees stood frozen and in shock as the dragon lifted its head and eyed down its quarry.

Many more were injured and relied on the shoulder of another while the rumbling settled and it was now apparent where Ambrose went in the chaos.

In between two curling horns of black, on top of the dragon’s head walked a man still in handcuffs and with a composed smile. "Dear citizens of Burnetrout; for long you thought we had forsaken you."

His voice magically echoed throughout the courthouse for all to hear. The dragon landed one enormous claw onto the crushed jury stands and attempted to free its other claw that had been wedged into the back wall.

Its entire body was slanting downwards and its neck practically stuck in the ceiling as rubble fell to its movements. Jotou wiped her face of dust and glared up with her armite blade out of its sheath.

Fumeko blinked out into the air and into the aisle between the seats, while Hotaru and Asobi got back up. All were stunned by the creature before them, except the four who were still a bit out of sorts by its mere presence.

Even after having seen a gigantic velatos before, it paled in comparison; if this was the size of the head... Imagination painted a good enough picture.

As the GAS stumbled and made their way to guard the grand alderman, it appeared that Lady Pinberry was the only one completely unfazed by the display; she stared down the drake’s gaze with her orangish-crimson eyes as it was freeing itself.

Meanwhile, he continued, "Do not be disillusioned, for we have been working from the shadows in our court. Your protector deceives you in plain daylight, while we arrive with liberation as our font.

Do you not grow sickened with the tides of war? Have you all not progressed into lives worthy of this country’s title, with little to no external strife? Why do you think the Regime to the east has yet run rampant on our lands and seas?

Our contributions have been said to be foolish and immoral. I ask, is all not fair in love and war? Ethics and morals do not care for mortal life, if it is to survive for generations to come.

Hear our call oh great nation of old, we will once again rise from the ashes of which stories foretold," Ambrose said with his chest puffed and shoulders broad.

The dragon raised its head and with it Ambrose rose above all. He put his arms up and a—"SFWING!"—swipe came from what some could see as a pale yellow ghost that cut through the chains of his handcuffs.

He kept his chin high as he proclaimed, "You are now in the presence of a new God. I vow to you all this; Burnetrout will be the greatest nation of all, and us of the Deuctus will protect it for centuries to come.

That is our cause so fret not little lambs. Those who rally to our purpose will find us. Those who wish to oppose what is inevitable, you are welcome to try," he lowered his now free arms and put them in a grand gesture.

His voice no longer bellowed as the dragon’s head rose through the gap in the ceiling. "Crash!" "CrUmBlE...!" Chunks of the above floor came crashing down as whoever was left began to dodge out of the way.

Through the doors behind the crushed judge’s podium came through several people in red masks that covered their entire face, with only two white slits for eyes.

They were adorned in light armour of deep purple hues and had rifles that they aimed into the courtroom all at once.

"Ma’am, you need to leave," Kazuo grabbed Lady Pinberry’s shoulder.

She twisted her head back with a stern glare and then faced the atrocity happening ahead, "Unhand me detective, I’m not fleeing from these terrorists; they dare show their face again in my country?

A new God hm?" her eyes darted up to the man atop the dragon’s head. "Look at how he flees like a coward."

Streaking past her vision was a blur of yellow lights that crackled with each step. Her eyes ever so slightly darted to the right to notice the Thundering Blade rushing headfirst towards the dragon’s head.

"Blast!" "BLAST!" "Blast!" "PING!" Jotou raised her sparking blade in front of the grand alderman and stepped in front of her to block the shots.

"Mgh..." The other two bullets she stopped with her adventuring attire and sparking form, as the rubber bullet-like pain began forming. "Get the hell out of here," Jotou said before rushing forward.

Kazuo Namora ducked behind the seats and aimed his pistol to the gunmen while the grand alderman walked out from the seats to watch the blonde make her way towards the drake.

"RUmBLe-CRASH!" The dragon freed its claws from the wall and one side of its wing unfurled, breaking apart the ceiling and presumably parts of the upper floor.

"Aegis-Aura!" Hotaru casted as she held onto the broken benches, protecting everyone she could see in a bluish aura.

"GET BACK HERE!" Jotou shouted up to the snout of the dragon she so nearly struck.

"Woosh!" Fumeko appeared onto the dragon’s head and raised her dagger to the man on top. But- "FwoOosh!" Dozens of ghosts encircled Ambrose and swirled into a protective tornado around him, buffeting the brunette back.

Her dagger ripped apart through a soul or two, "Spider Walk," shadows trailed along her feet to glue her onto the shifting dragon’s head.

"We meet again young lady. You are the daughter of the famed Detective Namora, correct?" Ambrose said as rubble rained down around him.

Fumeko sneered and spat out, "You failed to mention godhood the last time we spoke."

"I apologize you were not able to deduce that sooner."

"I had my guesses," she reached down and stabbed the dagger into the dragon’s hide. Bronzish-red blood spurted out as even the hilt sunk in with some of her fingers.

Ambrose nearly chuckled, watching the drake barely give a reaction to the jab. Fumeko pulled out the dagger with a grunt and searched for the eyes of the beast. "Woosh!"

"Kid!" Kazuo’s voice shouted through all the chaos.

Fumeko had her shadow-covered hands and feet on the side of the dragon’s head, but the dragon closed its eyes. Nevertheless, she stabbed at the scaled eyelids; while the dagger sunk in, it required more strength and push than she expected.

Her face contorted as she kept shoving the gleaming purple dagger- "KID!"

Fumeko turned—practically a mosquito on the side of the creature. She saw her father ducking behind the row of broken seats, shooting his pistol at the cultists at the back.

By the time Fumeko turned her head back, the stabbed scales of its eyelids were reforming and fixing themselves. "Tch," she looked down and blinked back onto the courtroom floor.

"Sobi! Asobi!" Hotaru shook the petrified magician by the shoulders.

"D-dragon, very big dragon..." Asobi’s knees were shaking as she gripped her wand in both hands.

"Sobi, snap out of it!"

"Huh- Oh! Present!" her voice squeaked as she turned to face the redhead.

"Do something about them, forget the dragon," Hotaru exclaimed and pointed to the cultists.

"Hm!" Asobi gave a firm nod and went invisible.

’They’re getting away. They don’t care about these cultists down here, just Ambrose. Can I get to the second floor, or even the roof of the place in time?’

Jotou squinted up through the dust and falling chunks of floor. ’Wait, that’s it.’

The dragon unfurled its wings and crashed through the upper floor, now ascending into a stumbling flight. ’Shoulder-Charge!’ Lightning encased her form and dashed her several metres upwards onto a chunk of falling concrete.

’Kickbolt!’ She planted her feet down and leapt from the chunk into the air as lightning trailed the back of her heel and she flipped up onto another falling piece of the rubble.

Using the two spells, she continued to spin and dash upwards to give chase to the fleeing dragon. "CRASH! Woosh, woosh!" Its wings started to beat and the dragon turned, crashing its tail through the walls as it burst into the second floor and continued its ascent.

In a flurry of lightning, she charged out from the floor and landed onto the second floor of the courthouse. The long hallway hosted a number of cultists who were positioning shot policemen against the walls.

She brought her sword to the side and rushed forward. The dragon flew through the hallway, though it was cramped for it to gain any speed or truly fly.

"Blast!" "Blast-!" One of the rifles got bashed in as she zapped the one holding it and dinged the barrel with her blade. Though the bluish aura was somewhat fading, her sparks and armour proved enough to take any hit these cultists could even attempt.

The dozen or so who tried to stop her, were quickly dispatched by lightning and force as the blonde’s eyes were fixated on the dragon speeding above her head.

"CRASH!" Gathering enough momentum, the dragon raised its horns and crashed through the next floor above.

’Shoulder-Charge!’ "Thundering Strike!" by her shoulder she lifted herself off the floor and dashed a few metres into the air as the creature’s form was barely within her reach.

The lightning from her spell dissipated, but travelled along her arm and conjoined into the next spell as her blade struck the side of its tail, causing arcs of yellow lightning to buzz and strike into its tail.

Its scales singed on the top before the boom ever hit. "BLASSTTTTT!!!" The entire building quaked, the windows vibrated before all of them on one side of the building simply shattered into bits.

Some of the wall on the second floor crumbled; not only by the sound, but by the large draconic tail that bashed into the side. "ROARR!"

The bestial roar of the dragon resounded as it was thrown off course. The wing-like protrusions on its tail went left, while the majority of the dragon’s form crashed into the right side of the building.

A deep gash had been driven into the thick meaty tail of the drake and from it hung the blonde by the edge of her blade that was wedged in.

Blood showered down onto the floor and her sparking form, vaporizing as it hit her. However, despite steering it away from its initial trajectory, the dragon opted to fly through the building into where its head crashed.

"Kickbolt!" Jotou lifted herself up by her foot and landed on the dragon’s tail. She repositioned her blade and stabbed it further into the muscles and sinew of its tail, "Zap!"

Lighting coursed from her hands and flowed into the creature. Streaks of lightning bounced off of its protruding scales across its spine, across the membrane of its wings and even onto its snout as it coughed and sputtered.

Though it seemed to only do that to no greater effect, despite the blonde’s conviction. ’How much voltage can you take!?’ With a grunt she dispelled the continuous stream of electricity as the dragon continued to crash through the upper floors.

"CRASH!"

Jotou ducked down.

"CRASHHH!"

She stabbed into the exposed muscles of the tail and steadied herself.

"CRASHHHH!!"

With one final floor, daylight pierced through and the wind blasted past the blonde’s face, forcing her to lie down on the tail. Rubble and stone thudded and bashed against its body, but it did not impede it in the slightest.

If holding on was already this hard, scaling it was going to be impossible. Jotou watched through squinted eyes, pondering if well-placed strike against its wing might do more harm.

The sky came into view as its tail began to thrash around. At which point as her hair was flying backwards, she saw the tail begin to rip where she had cut through.

The flesh tore more as a new, smaller tail emerged from the draconic form. Its gigantic wings spread out wide, casting a shadow down onto the city that eclipsed any light of the Sun.

"All those people," she spoke while the sparks protected her mouth. "You new gods will see hell, I swear it," she growled as she took her blade and swung her arm with what strength she could muster against the wind.

"Thundering Strike!" She struck against the newly forming tail.

Yellow lightning arced and spread across the stormless sky. Through the shadow casted by the drake from above, streaked veins and webs of light for an instant.

"BLASTT!" A thunder not contained by the confines of the building, boomed across the skies of Dolpool. The dragon roared again into the air, as it lost its flight for a few moments and descended from its flight.

The end of its body had a massive gash it struggled to piece back together. Instead, the dragon and its shadow beneath shrunk in size and flew faster once more.

"THUD! Crash! FFFsshhh..." The dragon’s previous tail crashed down onto the roof of the courthouse, carrying with it a blonde who braced for impact.

She crashed through rubble and concrete till the limb came to a halt and she could roll out of its weight. Jotou panted and lifted her sword.

She raced across the rooftop and leaned on the edge of the railing in between two gargoyles. Wind rushed past locks of her hair as she panted and watched the dragon continue to fly southwards and away.

Jotou huffed and glared into the distance, while the draconic tail behind her began to evaporate into orange ash and disappear into the air...
