Back at the settlement Dr Selly has discharged Alex. Mildread and his group took him to show him around.

"So Alex, did you really hide in an underground bunker?

Alex nodded his head. They just walked out of the medical area of the settlement. There was some truth in his statement. He really was away from the matters of the world. Now what was presented before him was the remnants of humanity.

No more was humanity the top of the food chain, dictating the direction of the world. The settlement looked like a small town. Old sky scrapers used for housing refugees. A 30 meter wall surrounding it with soldiers on the lookout. As he was walking, he could feel the atmosphere rich with fear and hopelessness.

Kids weren’t playing around like they were supposed to. No sound of chirping birds. No loud voices of sellers calling customers. The residents themselves had a shifty look in their eyes , as if ready for anything. As he was walking he came across a building that appeared well kept. No dirt or cracks like other buildings. Everything appeared well maintained.

"How was it down there all alone, I’m surprised how calm you are despite your solitude"

"It felt more like a second if I’m being honest. Most of the time it felt like I was dead"

Mike felt a cold in his spine when he heard that response. Alex continued to walk forward towards the clean building. If he had to guess by the shape. This was a church.

’I guess when things get hard people tend to look for answers from something bigger than them’

"So Alex, what do you think about this place, It might be the smallest settlement out there but I love it here"

"Mindy, You are the only person to have ever said that, Matter of fact you are the only Rich person who left their Mega City like settlement to come visit a small settlement"

Mike said with frustration in his voice. It was common knowledge that the bigger the settlement, the better the security and here is someone not only from a rich background but also part of the hierarchy of that settlement but chose to come to a place lacking in security and facility.

Alex didn’t pay mind to them. His attention was currently on the dot he just saw up above the sky, It got bigger and bigger by the moment.

"Hey guys, what is that thing I’m seeing right there?"

Pointing at the sky and everyone else following his hand. The moment their eyes caught sight of what he was pointing at. They panicked....

Mike could get his thoughts straight, His hands rummaging all his pockets. Everyone else reached for their pockets. The moment they took them out Alex was fascinated by them. They appeared crude like those things they call phones in the old world. Alex was used to the eyewear which became obsolete because of atmospheric interruption created after the seal was broken.

Finally without wasting a second they triple tapped the button on the side followed by a prompt on the screen.

"Ow my God, Yess.... I clicked Yes, sound the damn alarm already"

Frustrated by the extra steps.

"Guys what is going on?"

He can see this is a serious situation they are in...

"No time to speak come with me"

This is not a drill, civilians go to the nearest safe location. All soldiers take a battle position. I repeat, This is not a drill, Civilians are to head for the nearest safe locations, Soldiers take a battle location.

The place became a frenzy, the once silent calm small town was chaotic. All the people who were laying down, droopy before were running like mad man. Mothers carrying their children while fathers carrying luggages for them. There were some unfortunate single mothers who had to carry both. While some tried to help them, the rest couldn’t care less, they wanted safety!!

Their connectors rang and a message came in.

The portal disrupter will be activated in 20 seconds, All jumpers are advised to jump to their battle location immediately.

Mildread didn’t waste a moment and opened a portal immediately.

"Let’s go. Alex, I’ve seen how good you fight. We need your help"

Alex didn’t even take a second to think he just walked right in, The rest followed.

"So guys, how do you know that a dot in the sky means trouble?"

Alex asked as soon as everyone gathered near the gate. There were other junior jumpers there, waiting for the general.

"Well, we got a report that the fallen had attacked other settlements. And on that report one thing came over and over again. There was a massive flying creature in the sky serving as a reconnaissance, Soon a horde of monsters came and launched a coordinated attack.

Since becoming a Jumper, this was the first time Alex heard that the fallen had become coordinated. Seeing the shock in Alex’s Mildread continued.

"You aren’t the first to be shocked by this revelation. So it is rumoured that there is a fallen who either gained intelligence and is able to coordinate them or perhaps someone has gained a Mistica capable of controlling the already mindless fallen."

As Alex was listening to Mildread, a portal opened right in front of the jumpers, General Malkov walked out. Another opened a distance away. Brice’s team came out of it with Marcel being supported by Bruce.

"Jumpers and Soldiers, the day we have been preparing for this week has come. It would appear the enemy has finally made themself visible. I don’t want to give you false hope, some will die. But don’t let that stop you from giving it your best. We are human, we are adaptive, we learn and finally we conquer. Nothing took us down in the past 300 000 years, and nothing will stop us from progressing another thousands of years to come. Let’s get out there and show them what we are made of!!!"

Screams resounded through the heavens as if to call the gods to come down and bear witness the spectacle that is about to unfold.

Not far from the settlement. Thousands of footsteps could be heard rumbling across the forest. Trees breaking, plants dying. High up there a fallen that looked like a dark lizard with wings like a bat. 7 metres tall and wings that span 10 meters each side, rough skin like a crocodile. This was a special type 7 lesser flame sprite.

A menace in aria attacks. It was currently monitoring the situation in the human settlement and reporting everything it watched to its Master. Currently the master was hidden, and watching and communicating through special mental waves. The Fallen were quite fond of their master. Before he appeared they were nothing but mindless beasts but he shared with them his intelligence which allowed them the ability to think. Though not complex thought but at least they gained some semblance of self.

Gaining the ability to refine their strength. Most importantly, they weren’t controlled by their bestial instinct. Now that they found themselves. They fear returning back to who they were before, which is why they agreed to follow their master even though they might die in the process. It’s better to die who they currently are than a beast.

Soon the settlement came into view. From a far they could see human figures standing still on the wall. Near metal cylindrical tubes aimed right at them. Outside the settlement where Jumpers. Placed there to cut off the enemy before it could get near the gate.

In a cave somewhere, a red skinned man, black hair, holding some kind of fruit. His eyes were closed, in his mind’s eye he could see multiple view points of the monsters.

"Such a rigid and crude strategy won’t help you in any way. Seriously, how can the aboriginal in this dimension be so simple minded. No matter, time to harvest some souls"

With that the Demon sent an intent through to the advancing fallen.

An army of beasts let out growl. Charging fourth without wasting a second.

"Here we go, It’s time to let loose"

Mike felt his blood rush as he saw a large army beast come running. The human side didn’t wait. They quickly started running towards the enemy.

The two opposite sides finally slashing. All kinds of powers were unleashed. Thankfully, the Lesser flame sprite seems to be the only special type around here. The rest merely type 3 to type 6. What was frightening though was their number, which fell into the thousand mark.

"Well, let’s have some fun."

Alex finally understood his power and gained some chaos shadow power. First thing he did was re-equip himself with the shadow outfit. This time it wasn’t just simple pants and a jacket. He put on a full on coat. Rugged pants and jacket that appeared far firmer than the first.

Looking at the oncoming enemy, he couldn’t help but think of the old days.
