Reincarnated With An SSS-Rank Talent In An Apocalyptic World-Chapter 81: All Is Fair In War
Chapter 81: All Is Fair In War
My limbs ached like hell, and my muscles were torn badly from overexertion. Blood streamed down different parts of my body, and my regeneration had slowed down. The battle had taken a heavy toll on me, and my body was unwilling to listen to my commands.
Even the dark fumes pouring out of my body had reduced drastically. This body was at its limit, and my time in [Berserk] mode was nearing its end.
It was clear—I couldn’t continue this fight.
But it was a different case for the orc berserker. While the green fumes had died down considerably, it was clear he still had some juice left to squabble.
But I knew—continuing this fight was a death sentence.
And it pissed me off.
It simply meant I couldn’t actually win against this orc in free and fair combat. Even with all the growth I had achieved so far, I still couldn’t compare to this orc berserker.
Once again, I had tasted defeat in this world—and it’s crazy that it happened just two days after losing to Dayvon.
It hurt.
But it mattered little to me.
"The victor writes history. Might makes right," I reminded myself as I reached for my gun, while watching the berserker pick himself up.
As soon as he was on his knees and turned to face me, an Aether beam tore through his skull, blowing a hole in his brain—
—and I was the one who pulled the trigger.
And the world went silent.
Even the soldiers behind me stopped cheering, shocked by the sudden turn of events. Everyone expected the bloody fight to continue.
They expected us to battle it out until one person dropped dead.
But I dared not go along with that pipe dream—or I would be the headless one lying lifeless on this bridge.
The orc berserker had genuine shock in his eyes. He clearly didn’t expect me to make such a nasty move.
"You... you have no honor!" he growled like a wounded beast. The hole in his head began to close—but I doubted it would regrow his brain.
The [Berserk] mode’s weakness has always been the head.
"Fool... all is fair in war. All that matters is the victor." A sinister smile spread across my lips as I pulled the trigger a few more times.
VZZT! VZZT!
VZZT! VZZT!
The orc berserker’s head was blown off—everything except his lips down.
Just as I was about to pull the trigger one last time, I heard a whistling sound.
Swoosh!
My head snapped in its direction—
—but I was too late.
Bam!
A steel javelin flew through the air and stabbed into my right shoulder, causing my grip to loosen. The gun fell to the ground.
"Gah!" I screamed, staggering back a few steps.
Swoosh!
Bam!
Another spear struck my chest, and I spat out a mouthful of blood.
My body swayed back and forth.
My eyes were bloodshot, and a static noise filled my ears—making it impossible to make sense of the furious cries from the orc army.
With my blurred vision, I could barely make out what was happening or who had attacked me—
but none of that mattered.
I had won.
Their commander was dead.
They had no one to lead their forces, while my side still had First Lieutenant Cage.
[Door Activated]
"K-K... KILL THEM ALLLL!" I growled with the last strength I could muster, staggering back.
VZZT! VZZT!
VZZT! VZZT!
Ratatatata! Ratatatata!
Ratatatata! Ratatatata!
In response to my words, energy beams and bullets hurled past me in the hundreds, pouring down onto the orc riders—
their focus still on me—
catching them off guard.
The spatial gate had opened behind me, protecting me from friendly fire,
and without hesitation, I fell into it—
landing on the soft padded ground with a bang.
Haahhhh!
I exhaled through my mouth—since the stench of blood was strong in my nose.
My body felt heavy as fuck, like two boulders were placed on top of me—
and I knew it had nothing to do with the spears.
[Berserk Mode:] 00:47
"Big brother!" I heard Jake’s voice from the side—
but I paid him no attention.
I needed to pull these javelins out so that my wounds could heal—
but I couldn’t move my right arm due to the javelin lodged in my shoulder.
"Help..." I gasped. "Help me pull these things out so I can heal."
In a second or two, Jake’s hurried footsteps approached—
and thankfully, the kid was good at following orders. He never made me repeat myself twice.
"Okay, big brother!" he said.
I felt the pressure on the javelin in my right shoulder increase—
and with one forceful pull, it ripped out of my shoulder, a groan escaping my lips.
Jake staggered back under the weight of the javelin and even fell over.
It’s expected—it was a weapon used by orcs.
He had done the main work, so I didn’t need much help for what came next.
Slowly, I reached for the javelin stuck in my chest and wrapped my sticky, bloodied palms around it.
I inhaled and exhaled twice through my mouth—
then pulled with all my might.
Pfft!
Blood squirted out of the wound as soon as I pulled the javelin free and tossed it aside.
Breathing became less painful and easier, and the aching pain lessened considerably.
"Fuck my life," I gasped.
The war hadn’t even started—
and I had already been fatally injured on the first day.
If I didn’t have the rapid healing of [Berserk] mode, I would’ve been dead already.
"Big brother..." Jake returned to my side—
but then he went silent.
Probably because of the speed at which my injuries were healing.
"Bro... you’re amazing," he said—
but his voice seemed distant.
It wasn’t just that.
I could feel the darkness creeping in from the edges—
slowly covering my entire vision.
But I didn’t fight it.
I was in a safe space.
"Jake..." I called out.
"Yes, bro?" he responded immediately.
"I’ll be asleep for a while... look after me."
My voice was barely a whisper.
I waited for his response—
but it never came.
Slowly, my eyes closed completely in darkness—
and for the first time today, I felt at peace.
If sleep is this good...
Death must be amazing.
