Adam woke up slowly, feeling how his entire body was completely drenched in sweat. The heat that had built up during his sleep had done its job, and now his clothes were sticking to his skin in an uncomfortable way.
To make matters worse, he noticed that he had been drooling, as the pillow had a rather obvious damp stain that made it clear just how deeply he had been sleeping.
’Shit...’ he thought as he blinked several times, trying to orient himself.
He looked around with a blurred gaze, slowly recognising that he was in his room. The events of the previous day began to return to his memory little by little.
That was when he noticed the system screen floating in front of him.
It was there, patiently waiting for him to read it. But Adam had just woken up and his brain was not functioning at one hundred percent yet, so he simply ignored it for the moment.
He sat up in bed in a slow movement while letting his body get used to being awake again.
He let out a deep yawn and remained sitting there for quite a long while without doing anything other than existing.
Finally, when he felt that he could move, he stood up and walked towards the bathroom in his room.
When he entered, he approached the sink where he turned on the tap, letting the cold water run. Then he leaned forward and washed his face with both hands, feeling how the icy water fully woke him up.
After drying himself with a towel that was hanging nearby, he returned to his bed and sat down once more. This time, he did pay attention to the system screen that was still floating patiently in front of him.

But before he could accept or even think about it, he felt Nox materialise out of the air before landing softly on his head as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
’Good morning to you too.’ Adam thought as he raised one of his hands to pet the small dragon that was now resting comfortably within his hair.
Nox emitted a sound of satisfaction at the petting while slowly moving his tail.
Adam returned his attention to the screen and after thinking for a moment, decided that there was no reason to reject a free gift. "I accept."

Adam did not feel anything in particular when levelling up. He was about to check his stats when he heard a soft knock on the bedroom door.
’If it were Ravenna, she would have entered directly without knocking.’ He thought as he looked towards the door with a certain curiosity. Ravenna had permission to enter whenever she wanted given her position as his personal maid.
"Nox, hide." He ordered in a low voice.
The small dragon obeyed immediately and disappeared once again.
Without further delay, Adam stood up, walked towards the door, and opened it slowly, only to find a woman who appeared to be just over thirty years old standing in front of him with a perfectly straight posture.
It was Thessaly. The head maid and head of his parents’ staff in general. She was a woman with dark hair tied into an impeccable bun, grey eyes, and she wore a uniform that clearly displayed her superior rank.
She gave a respectful bow before speaking. "Good morning, young Adam. I apologise for interrupting your rest, but I have come to inform you that your enrolment in the academy has been successfully completed."
Adam nodded slightly as he listened.
"In three days, you will depart for the royal capital." Thessaly continued without changing her formal tone. "All necessary preparations for your journey and stay at the academy have been made. If you require anything additional before your departure, please let me know."
"I understand." Adam responded simply. "Thank you for informing me."
Thessaly only gave a bow before leaving down the corridor, leaving Adam alone once again. He closed the door and sighed as he processed what had just been said. Three days...
In three days, he would be on his way to the royal capital where the most prestigious academy in the kingdom was located. The place where the entire main plot of that damned novel truly began.
Nox came out of his hiding place again and positioned himself between his arms. Adam grabbed him almost automatically without paying him much attention while his thoughts focused on what was to come.
’The main events will begin now...’ he thought. ’The heroines, the villains, the original protagonist... Everything will be there.’
