Chapter 741: Relaxed and even affectionate

Dominick finished reviewing the final documents before placing his signature on the discharge papers. The doctor nodded in approval, confirming that Jeniva was fit to leave the hospital as long as she rested properly for the next few days.

Jeniva had already gathered her things and was preparing to leave for the residence when she suddenly paused.

"Can I see AJ before we go?" she asked.

Dominick looked at her for a moment before nodding.

"Of course."

He turned to his beta standing nearby.

"Go check if AJ is awake," he instructed. "Let me know once he is."

"Yes, Your Highness," the beta replied before hurrying out of the room.

A few minutes passed in quiet anticipation. Then Dominick received a message through the mindlink.

Dominick looked at Jeniva. "Let’s go," he said. "He’s awake."

Jeniva immediately walked out of the room, moving ahead of him down the hallway. Dominick followed behind her at a calmer pace.

They soon reached the ward room where AJ was being kept under observation. The door was slightly open, and the faint sound of the heart monitor could be heard from inside.

The moment Jeniva stepped in, her face brightened with relief.

"AJ!"

Without hesitation, she hurried to the bed and wrapped her arms around him, hugging him tightly as she sat beside him on the mattress.

AJ chuckled softly despite the bandages across his body. He lifted one arm and gently placed his hand on her back.

"I’m fine," he assured her with a small smile. "I heard you were discharged already."

Standing near the doorway, Dominick watched the scene unfold.

His brows slowly drew together as his gaze lingered on AJ’s hand resting on Jeniva’s back.

"Has your wound healed?" Jeniva asked, still sitting beside AJ, her concern evident in the way she studied his face.

AJ nodded lightly. "Yes, it’s healing well," he replied. "The doctors said I’ll likely be discharged tomorrow morning."

He shifted slightly on the bed before continuing.

"And once that happens, both of us will need to report to the capital headquarters."

Before Jeniva could respond, Dominick stepped further into the room.

"For now, focus on recovering," he said calmly.

AJ immediately turned his head toward him and straightened slightly despite the discomfort.

"Your Highness," he greeted respectfully.

Dominick gave a brief nod in acknowledgment.

"The headquarters has already been informed about what happened here," he said. "Both of you handled the mission well. You successfully completed the operation. You’ll definitely be rewarded for it."

AJ and Jeniva exchanged a brief glance, both smiling quietly at the recognition.

After a moment, Dominick spoke again.

"We should head back now," he said to Jeniva.

She stood up from the bed and gave AJ one last reassuring smile.

"Rest well," she told him before giving a small wave.

Then she turned and walked out of the ward room alongside Dominick, leaving the hospital with the Alpha Prince.

The ride back to the residence passed in complete silence.

Jeniva sat quietly in the back seat, occasionally glancing toward Dominick through the reflection in the car window. He had been calm, almost distant, ever since they left AJ’s ward.

She couldn’t understand the sudden change.

Did I do something wrong? she wondered.

A part of her wanted to ask him directly, but the thought of being scolded again stopped her. She folded her hands in her lap instead and stared outside at the passing streets.

Eventually, the car slowed and came to a smooth halt in front of the residence.

The driver stepped out first to open the door. Jeniva followed, stepping out into the evening air.

Evan appeared beside her almost immediately.

"You only need to focus on resting now," he said gently. "Consider yourself on a short vacation."

Jeniva gave a small, bright nod.

"Yeah!"

But her attention shifted when she saw Dominick stepping out of the car as well. Without looking at either of them, he walked past them and headed straight toward the entrance.

Jeniva watched him go, confusion flickering across her face.

"What happened to him?" she murmured quietly. Just yesterday he was showering me with affection.

Shaking off the thought, she followed Evan inside.

The moment she entered the residence, Kavin and several of the maids greeted her warmly. Their worried expressions softened the moment they saw she was standing and walking without serious injuries.

"We were all worried about you," Kavin said sincerely. "I’m relieved to see you’re alright."

He gestured toward the hallway.

"Please go and rest in your bedroom. I’ll have the kitchen send your meals there."

Jeniva smiled politely. "Thank you."

Feeling the exhaustion finally settling into her body, Jeniva nodded to everyone and quietly walked down the corridor toward her room.

The hallway was calm, and the soft lights along the walls cast a warm glow as she reached her door. She pushed it open and stepped inside before gently closing it behind her.

For a brief second, she leaned back against the door, letting out a tired breath.

But when she turned around, she froze.

Dominick was already inside the room.

He stood near the window, his tall figure half-lit by the evening light filtering through the curtains.

"What are you doing here?" Jeniva asked, clearly surprised. Dominick frowned slightly and began walking toward her.

"Can’t I be here?" he replied. His tone carried a hint of irritation.

He stopped a few steps away from her, his gaze sharp.

"Didn’t I tell you to take me with you?" he continued. "Anything could have happened today."

The frustration in his voice was hard to miss. Jeniva crossed her arms lightly, studying him.

"You’re acting strange," she said after a moment.

Her brows knitted together as she looked at him.

"Until yesterday... you were completely different. You were relaxed and even affectionate. Now, you suddenly started scolding me."

"Because you could have been seriously wounded if I hadn’t have arrived on time," Dominick remarked. "I was scared for you. I thought I wouldn’t be able to save you."
