Chen Ying walked straight down the road for about ten minutes until she finally saw the huge mango tree Chen Fang had mentioned. She could already see the long flower buds forming on its branches. Just by looking, she could imagine how it would be laden with fruit by the time summer vacation arrived.
Chen Ying paused for a moment before continuing forward. "Is this Xue Yang’s home?"
It was rather amusing, really. Xue Yang had been to her front door countless times, yet this was the first time she had ever come to his.
Although it was not the home of a wealthy family, one could tell from the entrance that it was kept neat and tidy, making for a refreshingly pleasant sight.
"Pretty lady, who are you looking for?"
The speaker was a handsome boy of about fourteen or fifteen, though not very tall—at least not compared to Xue Yang. From his features, though, you could see a shadow of Xue Yang in him.
The moment he saw Chen Ying, Xue Xing’s eyes lit up. She was beautiful from the side, but even more striking from the front. She was only wearing a simple T-shirt, but her face was adorned with meticulously applied makeup.
If she hadn’t put on makeup today, a rare occasion for her, she wouldn’t have come to Xue Yang’s home right after chatting with Chen Fang.
"Excuse me, is this Xue Yang’s home?"

Xue Xing stared at the girl who had suddenly appeared at his brother’s door, running through a mental list of everyone he knew, but he couldn’t place her. Chen Ying gave a slight tug at the corner of her mouth but didn’t say much.
She was so tired of hearing these compliments. It was always the same thing: "You’re my role model." What was there to emulate? Did any of them know what she had sacrificed for her studies? Her brilliant exterior was just a facade for others to see.
"Xing Zai, is your brother not home?" Chen Fang asked. She knew Chen Ying had come specifically to find Xue Yang.
"It’s Valentine’s Day, so he went out to celebrate. Cousin-in-law, aren’t you and my cousin going to celebrate too?"
Xue Xing was still young and didn’t have a crush on any of his classmates yet, so he said whatever was on his mind. He hadn’t been able to find Xue Yang when he came over earlier, so he naturally assumed his brother was out celebrating.
Chen Ying’s expression stiffened. "Xing Zai," she asked, "have you met Xue Yang’s girlfriend?"
"I have."
"Where did you see her?"
"On his phone. I haven’t met her in person yet."
"Then... what does she look like?"
I refuse to believe Xue Yang’s girlfriend could be prettier than me. If Xue Xing would just say something like, ’She’s pretty, but she’s nothing compared to you,’ then this whole trip wouldn’t have been a waste.
To her dismay, the mere mention of Xue Yang’s girlfriend made Xue Xing light up with excitement. "My sister-in-law is gorgeous, like a goddess from the heavens! I’ve never seen anyone so beautiful!"
"How much of a goddess? As much as my sister?" Chen Fang chimed in.
"It’s a different kind of beauty. Sister Ying is pretty, but my sister-in-law... she’s in a league of her own, completely unique. I can’t even describe it. You’d have to see her to understand. It’s a kind of beauty that can only be felt, not explained in words."
And that was just from a photo. He couldn’t imagine how breathtaking she must be in person. Xue Xing eagerly awaited the day his brother would finally bring her home. He used to think Chen Ying and his brother were a good match, but after seeing his true sister-in-law, he knew she was the only person in the world meant for his brother. And only his brother was worthy of her. Anyone else would be a blasphemy.
Chen Ying’s expression was grim.
I mustered up so much courage to come find Xue Yang, only to be utterly humiliated without even laying eyes on him. The feeling is unbearable.
"Since your brother isn’t home, I’ll be going," she said curtly.
"Sister, aren’t you staying for dinner?"
"No, I’m not."
"Xiao Zhi, let’s walk my sister out."
"No need. I know the way."
With that, Chen Ying walked away quickly.
I must have been insane to even think of coming here. As if I hadn’t been embarrassed enough already, I had to come to his home for another dose of humiliation. Thank God no one in his family was home, or it would have been even worse. I want to die.

Xue Xing grumbled to himself, "Honestly. My cousin started dating early, but he tells me to wait until college. So unfair."
