Chapter 266: Chapter 264: Buying Flowers for the Beauty

"Xue Yang."

Cai Keke’s voice called out from behind him.

This girl is really persistent, Xue Yang thought, a slight headache coming on. I made myself perfectly clear the other day, yet she’s still seeking me out.

He slung his arm over Cui Hao’s shoulder. "Bro, do me a favor."

"Don’t tell me you want me to ward off your admirers for you."

"Don’t you need a girlfriend? I think our classmate Cai Keke is quite nice."

"Who told you I need a girlfriend? I already have one."

"Have a girlfriend? You don’t even have friends, and you think I can’t tell? Now, go."

With that, Xue Yang shoved Cui Hao in front of Cai Keke, then turned and walked briskly toward the school gate.

"Xue Yang!"

Cui Hao blocked Cai Keke’s path. "Keke, I’d advise you to give up."

"Why?"

"Because he has a girlfriend."

"But nobody’s ever seen his girlfriend. Who knows if that’s true or not? Have you seen her?"

Cui Hao stroked his chin thoughtfully. "You’ve got a point."

"See? Even you haven’t seen Xue Yang’s girlfriend. That’s why I’m not giving up," Cai Keke said firmly.

"Still, whether he has a girlfriend or not, you don’t stand a chance."

"Am I not pretty?"

"You’re pretty, but compared to the campus belle..."

Xue Yang’s first love was the campus belle. There’s no way he’d date a girl less attractive than her; I’d be the first to object. It’s our job, of course, to put those people with no taste in their place.

"I..."

"Just go back," Cui Hao said, then hurried to catch up with Xue Yang.

"Ying Ying, do you think Xue Yang’s girlfriend is really prettier than you?"

On the other side of the hallway, Su Jinfeng posed the question to Chen Ying.

Honestly, I don’t believe it, Su Jinfeng thought. Aside from A-list celebrities, I’ve never seen anyone prettier than Ying Ying. Besides, those celebrities are meticulously styled and packaged. Ying Ying is stunning even without a trace of makeup; you can’t even compare them. So, in terms of natural beauty, Ying Ying is the clear winner. Could someone really be prettier than her?

Chen Ying recalled what Xue Xing had said over the New Year holiday: "My sister-in-law is the most beautiful person in the world. No one can compare to her."

"I don’t know," she said, turning to walk back toward their dormitory.

She only had one class that morning, so with the rest of the day free, she decided to head back to her dorm and play King’s Game. Her frequent streaming had caused her social media following to grow rapidly, and she was on the verge of breaking the one-million-follower mark. She’d promised her fans a giveaway when she hit that milestone—offering to gift game skins to ten lucky followers—so she’d been quite busy lately.

"I really don’t get it. Is that game really so fun? She just holes up in the dorm playing games all day. She never used to be like this."

"Come on, Ying Ying’s path after graduation is already set. She’s been guaranteed admission into a graduate program, so if she doesn’t play now, when will she? After she starts working?" Li Zhaodi said, patting Su Jinfeng’s shoulder.

"That’s true. Let’s head back too. By the way, are you applying for grad school?"

"Definitely. My family supports it. What about you?"

"That’s great! I’m applying too, so we’ll have each other for company. Ying Ying has it all—she’s beautiful and gets excellent grades. If she can just find a rich boyfriend, get married, and have a son and a daughter, her life will be perfect."

A son and a daughter, huh? Chen Ying thought with a bitter smile, quickening her pace toward the dorm.

After finally making it to 5:00 PM, Xue Yang couldn’t sit still any longer. He grabbed his car keys and headed out.

"Hey, where are you going?" Cui Hao asked.

"To pick up my girlfriend after her class."

"I shouldn’t have even asked."

Cui Hao slumped back into his seat, furiously tapping at his keyboard as if it were Xue Yang’s face.

Xue Yang went to the parking lot, got into his car, and started driving toward Harlow International School in Yancheng. While stopped at an intersection, he was suddenly hit by the rich scent of flowers. He rolled down his window and saw a flower shop nearby.

I don’t think I’ve ever given Xiao Xi flowers.

With that thought, as soon as the light turned green, he drove to the next intersection, made a U-turn, and parked in front of the shop.

It was raining, so the shop owner had already resigned herself to having no business for the day. But then, an Audi pulled up to the curb. Her eyes lit up, and she quickly opened the door to welcome her customer.

Xue Yang got out, opened his umbrella, and walked toward the entrance. For a moment, the shop owner felt as if she were looking at a celebrity. No, wait, most celebrities aren’t even this handsome. I’ve been running this shop for so long, and I’ve never seen anyone so good-looking. He’s exactly my type.

When Xue Yang stepped inside, the fragrance of the flowers was even more intense.

"Miss," he began, "what kind of flowers are best to buy for a girlfriend?"

The shop owner was a young woman who looked to be in her twenties. She was pretty in a very gentle way that put one at ease and made one want to buy her flowers.

Hearing his question, she snapped out of her daze. "Oh! For your girlfriend?"

What a shame. Such a handsome guy, and he’s already taken. More importantly, he’s not just handsome, he’s willing to take the time to pick out flowers for his girlfriend. It’s true what they say: all the good ones belong to someone else.

"For a girlfriend, people usually buy roses," she explained. "They’re a symbol of love and beauty, with a deep, romantic meaning."

Xue Yang gently touched a bright red rose. "Roses are beautiful, but they have thorns. Do you have any other options?"

My Xiao Naimao would never hurt anyone, so these aren’t a good fit.

"Roses are the most popular flower for couples. If you don’t think they’re suitable, you could consider Chinese crabapples. They symbolize longing and warmth."

"Anything else?"

"There’s baby’s breath, which symbolizes romance and deep affection. And these are gardenias, symbolizing eternal love and strength."

"Gardenias. I’ll take these."

Eternal love and strength... that’s perfect for Xiao Naimao.

Emerging from the shop, Xue Yang was holding a bouquet of gardenias so large it almost hid him from view. He opened the trunk, placed the flowers inside, and got back into the driver’s seat.

It was now 5:45 PM.

In truth, it was still early. Lin Xi’s class didn’t end until 9:00 PM. He was just heading there so early because he missed her terribly.

"Xiao Xi, stop daydreaming! You’ve been staring into space since this morning. Any more of this and you’ll turn into a real bookworm," Si Wen said, waving her pale arm in front of Lin Xi’s face.

Lin Xi sat in the classroom, her eyes fixed on the world outside the window, paying no attention to the lecture. Hearing Si Wen’s voice, she snapped back to reality and looked at her friend, a bit dazed.

"It’s Friday."

"So what if it’s Friday?"

"Don’t you remember? We’ve had classes for two weeks straight. Tonight, we get to go home for the weekend."

"Huh?" Si Wen’s eyes widened in realization. "So that’s why you’ve been spacing out all day! You’re not daydreaming—you’re lovesick!"
