Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 89: Why Are We Still Husband and Wife?
She was clearly the Young Madam of the Grant Family, yet everyone called her the other woman. Even Leona Grant repeatedly told her to get lost.
The most tragic thing in the world isn’t loving someone who doesn’t love you back. It’s when they know you love them, yet they deliberately hurt you anyway.
’Leona Grant, I was once so devoted to you. Why must you hurt me like this?’
She hated the hand fate had dealt her. ’Why did Leona Grant have to come into her life?’
Annabelle Linton didn’t allow herself time to grieve. She lowered her head to wipe her tears, her large eyes filled with accusation and resentment. "Why did we ever meet? Why are we still married?"
Watching her cry, a flicker of pity flashed in Leona Grant’s eyes.
’Watching her cry, he didn’t know why, but he felt an unbearable ache. He had a sudden, powerful urge to pull her into his arms and comfort her.’
’He had only ever felt this way toward Vivian Yates. But with Vivian, it was the protective instinct of a brother for his sister. With Annabelle Linton, however, it was the kind a man feels for a woman.’
He pursed his lips, his tone finally softening. "Vivian attempted suicide. She’s in a fragile state, and I’m afraid she’ll try something again."
He lowered his gaze, a faint shadow falling across his handsome face. After a moment, he spoke again. "I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t have been so harsh, but she just woke up and can’t handle any agitation. If I hadn’t stepped in, there’s no telling what might have happened."
’As soon as the words left his mouth, Leona Grant was shocked. Why did I just apologize? Why am I explaining myself?!’
’This was the first time he’d ever apologized to anyone!’
Annabelle Linton had already composed herself, once again becoming that same, icy woman.
She tugged at the corner of her lips in a sarcastic smile. "It’s fine. It’s not like this is the first time. If I let myself get worked up over it every time, how could I even go on living?"
Leona Grant frowned, a flash of guilt crossing his cold eyes. He stared at her indifferent expression and said, "I didn’t mean to hurt you."
"Oh? You didn’t mean to, but you hurt me all the same. If you *had* meant to, would I even still be standing here?"
She looked at him and laughed again, the sound laced with sarcasm. "But today was an exception. You didn’t hurt me, because you can no longer hurt me. Your attitude means nothing to me anymore."
With that, Annabelle Linton coolly walked out of the hospital room.
Hearing her words, Leona Grant felt his heart tighten in a painful knot.
’Why doesn’t it matter??’
’Is it because she doesn’t care about me anymore?’
’Damn it!’
...
After being discharged from the hospital, Annabelle Linton spent the whole afternoon house-hunting.
’She couldn’t go on living with Leona Grant anymore. She couldn’t even pretend. She had to leave, to live by herself!’
As for the Linton family home, she had no desire to go back there—not while Melissa Miller was living there.
It was late by the time Annabelle Linton found a place. She would be living with Ryan, so she needed a larger house in a good school district.
Once she’d found a place, she returned to the villa she shared with Leona Grant. She planned to stay for just one more night. After all, with Vivian Yates in the hospital, he wouldn’t be coming home anyway.
Then, the next day, she would pack her things and move out.

Feeling restless and agitated, Leona Grant went to the riverbank.
The late-May wind felt cool and light on his face. The river lapped against the bank, kicking up small waves. Listening to the sound of the churning water, a strange emptiness and loneliness suddenly welled up inside Leona Grant.
He lit a cigarette, taking a lonely drag. The cherry at the tip glowed and faded in the darkness. Pale white smoke swirled around his noble, handsome features, lending him an indescribable allure.
