Remarried Wife: Mr. Ex, We Will Never Reconcile!-Chapter 132: Judgment: In the Name of Love!
Recently, Old Madam Grant returned to Veridia.
At the time, in front of The Grant Family manor in Veridia, several top-tier black luxury cars were parked, all bearing eye-catching special license plates.
The Grant family members gathered around the two patriarchs of the Grant family to discuss strategies regarding Noah Grant’s matter.
The atmosphere in the traditional Chinese-style living room was heavy with tension.
Rosalind had just rushed back from the hospital, her face pale as she sat on the sofa clutching her faintly aching chest, with Nathan Grant accompanying her.
She had three sons, no daughters, and Nathan Grant was the most dutiful and considerate.
At that moment, the phone placed on the rosewood tea table by Old Madam Grant rang.
The screen flashed the name "Vera."
Old Madam Grant’s eyes swept across the room, taking in faces that ranged from serious to anxious, or quietly resentful, especially Rosalind’s face, which was filled with grief and anger.
Without a change in her expression, she pressed the answer button in front of all the core members of The Grant family.
"Hello? Vera..."
Rosalind’s heart clenched suddenly, her face turned even paler, and her fist pressed tightly against her aching chest, as resentment almost spilled from her eyes.
A bringer of trouble!
On the other end of the call, Vera heard the steady voice of the old lady, yet felt no reassurance. An overwhelming sense of guilt and fear engulfed her instantly.
Her voice trembled with brokenness, "Grandma Grant, I’m sorry! I want to know, will he..." The heavy words that followed were choked in her throat.
She knew that revoking a lawyer’s license would be the lightest punishment for him; she dared not imagine what came after.
Old Madam Grant heard her guilt and anxiety, her eyes filled with pity. She looked around the room at the Grant family descendants, her gaze pausing on Rosalind’s face marked by resentment.
"Vera, you don’t need to apologize to me or The Grant family!"
The old lady’s voice was decisive and unquestionable!
The words were meant not only for Vera to hear but also for every Grant family member present.
She knew that because of Vera, Noah got into trouble, and they would inevitably resent the young woman.
"It was because of Noah! He couldn’t control the feelings he had suppressed for years! It was he who, in order to get closer to you, to pull you out of that problematic relationship, used means he shouldn’t have, and did outrageous things!"
The Grant family members were all taken aback, looking astonished.
Rosalind was especially shocked, her body involuntarily swaying.
"Suppressed feelings for years..." The words of the old lady stabbed deeply into the most painful part of her heart.
Seven years ago, her favorite son, because of this unhealthy obsession, for this Vera, didn’t hesitate to break with the family and exiled himself abroad!
She thought time could dilute everything, that he would grow up and understand that power is the basis for standing tall.
But instead of letting go, he sank deeper.
Now, he had even personally ruined the future he painstakingly rebuilt, that he had only just managed to reach again! He might even face imprisonment!
Rosalind couldn’t help but resent!
Vera couldn’t stop crying, "Grandma, I’m more worried about him."
The old lady’s eyes softened, "Vera, I’m not sure of Noah’s situation right now; he’s cooperating with the investigation and it’s against the rules to meet him."
"But what he did, he knows! Today, he dared to step through that door and dared to lay everything out clearly. That kind of responsibility, that courage to act, I acknowledge it!" Her tone suddenly deepened.
"Vera, tomorrow, you must walk into the courtroom with dignity and get that divorce certificate in hand!"
The words of the old lady struck Vera’s heart. She gripped her phone tightly and replied with a heavy "Mm."
The next day, at Ardendale Central Court.
The air in the solemn courtroom was stagnant.
The gallery was distinctly divided, with relatives and friends of both sides seated separately.
In the plaintiff’s seat, Vera wore a neatly tailored cream-colored suit, her long black hair tied into a low ponytail, revealing a smooth forehead and elegant neck line.
Her face, cold and striking, bore extremely light makeup, with pale lips and calm, aloof eyes.
A minute before the court session began, Ian Kane finally arrived.
The man, in a dark custom-made suit, had a tense, cold, lean face, with a jawline as if cut by a knife. On his left ring finger, the wedding ring reflected a piercing cold light.
His gaze fell on Vera, his Adam’s apple bobbed, and he undid two buttons of his suit before taking a seat at the defendant’s stand.
The aura as powerful as always.
Vera didn’t glance at him, maintaining a stoic expression.
The gavel fell, and the trial began.
Vera’s female lawyer stood up, her voice piercing through the courtroom clearly:
"Honorable presiding judge, regarding the previous complaint filed by the defendant Ian Kane based on a photo involving my client Ms. Vera Sheridan and her former attorney Nathan Grant, causing a delay in the verdict, we need to clarify to the court!"
"Mr. Nathan Grant has voluntarily informed the judiciary that his actions in the photo were unilateral, and he takes full responsibility. He no longer represents Ms. Vera Sheridan. Moreover, upon investigation, it was found that at the time the photo was taken, Ms. Vera Sheridan was unconscious and unaware of the situation!"
Lawyer Hale paused slightly, casting a sharp glance at the defendant’s stand:
"Additionally, we now submit new evidence!" She raised a document, "Evidence shows that the defendant, Ian Kane, deliberately bribed several orthopedic specialists six months ago to maliciously misdiagnose my client Ms. Vera Sheridan’s foot injury, forcing her to limp for half a year and endure irreparable mental trauma!"
"Based on the defendant’s serious infringement on the physical and mental health of his spouse, and the already court-recognized significant fault." Lawyer Hale’s voice suddenly soared, with a resounding tone:
"We now request that the court immediately issue the previously delayed divorce decree due to the complaint! And announce the forced dissolution of the marital relationship!"
Lawyer Hale’s words fell like a thunderclap, and the jury was instantly in an uproar.
Vera’s friends and family were all indignant, especially Owen Sheridan, who would have wanted to stab Ian Kane again if not for previous lessons!
All eyes from the jury were incredulously fixed on Vera’s right ankle wrapped in a white brace, and then quickly shifted to the defendant’s stand, where Ian Kane, known in the business world for his dignified and deep love image.
It was unimaginable that this man, envied by countless people and known for loving his wife as his life, could do such sinister and cruel things to her!
The jurors eagerly flipped through the solid evidence submitted by Vera’s side:
Ian Kane’s handwritten notes clearly instructing "to delay aggressive treatment"; recordings clearly documenting his bribes to specialists; false medical records diagnosing "lifelong inability to walk normally"; and the latest diagnostic report, stating "can fully recover through timely rehabilitation"!
The former dazzling ballet star was maliciously diagnosed as disabled, an outrage against both gods and men!
The jury representative couldn’t tolerate it for a moment longer and raised a hand to apply to the presiding judge for an immediate declaration in court!
At this moment, Ian Kane slowly stood up from the defendant’s stand.
He moved smoothly, fastening his suit buttons with precision, nodding gentlemanly to the judge and the jury.
His deep eyes finally locked onto Vera’s cold face, with an almost fanatical focus, his Adam’s apple quivering:
"Honorable judge, members of the jury, and... my wife."
The word "wife" was spoken with utmost tenderness, his voice even hoarse as if filled with affection.
Vera gritted her teeth, not giving him so much as a glance.
Ian Kane took a deep breath, a hint of bitterness flashing in his dark eyes, "About not treating your foot, actually, initially, I hesitated."
"I’ve always protected you like the apple of my eye. Even if you got splashed by hot water, I’d be on edge and couldn’t bear it."
"Not to mention, you were injured for me..." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Vera abruptly lifted her gaze, glaring daggers at him.
Ian Kane met her gaze filled with bone-deep hatred, yet instead of anger, he relished it and his Adam’s apple bobbed, "I loved you too much, too afraid of losing you, hence thinking if you couldn’t dance anymore, you’d stay home with me..."
He paused, his gaze turning fiercer, unblinkingly fixing on Vera, "With only me as your audience!"
As his words fell, gasps echoed in the courtroom, even the presiding judge frowned tightly.
Vera’s lips curved in a mocking arc, having long expected him to say such things.
"Presiding judge, jurors, I am the plaintiff Vera’s close friend, as well as a psychological counselor. I must point out, Mr. Ian Kane’s so-called ’love’ is essentially a pathological desire to control and possess! His behavioral patterns clearly indicate serious psychological issues. Not long ago, he had an emotional breakdown, engaged in reckless driving, and forcibly drove Vera towards a cliff, intending a ’lover’s suicide’! This is absolutely not love but extremely selfish and dangerous criminal behavior!"
Maeve Holloway spoke through gritted teeth, stating facts with strong emotion, standing up for Vera and Nathan Grant.
The jury was again in an uproar.
Ian Kane suddenly clenched the wooden railing of the defendant’s seat with his right hand, his gaze sharply turning to Maeve Holloway, raising his fractured left arm,
"But she was unharmed! I was the one injured! Seeing her cry... my heart softened, and I stopped the car in time! Besides—" his voice rose, "in that moment of losing control, I risked my life to protect her!"
"If this isn’t love, what is?!"
His gaze anxiously sought Vera’s indifferent face, his voice hoarse, "Vera, that wasn’t a ploy..."
The man’s voice seemed to be worn by sandpaper, "Just like a year ago... the moment the car accident truly happened... I protected you, that was instinct, not an act!"
He slightly tilted his head, his Adam’s apple rolling dramatically, swallowing the immense pain in his heart, "I too, was slow to realize..."
