Remarried Wife: Mr. Ex, We Will Never Reconcile!-Chapter 53: He Has Nothing Left!
Wendy Donovan also noticed the live broadcast of Ian Kane’s press conference on the airport’s big screen. She paused her steps, and the girls from the dance troupe behind her all stopped to watch the press conference, cheering with admiration and envy in their eyes.
"President Kane is so in love with his senior sister!"
"What a perfect man!"
Far away in Ardendale, Vera Sheridan had also started watching the live broadcast.
Today, Ian Kane was dressed in a black and white ascetic suit, standing in front of a blue background with white lettering. A microphone was set up on the half-height podium.
Journalists from various media outlets across the country sat below the stage, while photographers lined up against the back wall with their cameras, the flash continuously flickering.
The man placed his hands on the podium, the wedding ring on his left ring finger reflecting a cold light. His deep eyes stared directly at the camera lens, and his thin lips moved, continuing to clarify the recent rumors.
"Miss Kiera Crowe and I are just ordinary friends, with no ambiguities, no engagement!"
"Indeed, due to a small friction in life, my wife Vera and I are currently in a divorce cooling-off period. However, I, Ian Kane, hereby declare that my love will always be Vera. Whether I can win her back or not, I will marry no one but her in this lifetime!"
The man’s firm words resonated through the microphone and transmitted to the phone speaker, striking and shaking Vera’s heart.
In the screen, Ian Kane’s passionate eyes seemed to be directly "looking" at her, burning and determined, just like his past declarations!
Vera was dumbfounded and incredulous.
Wasn’t his attitude and words last night confirming his intention to marry Kiera Crowe?
The next second, through his gaze, Vera seemed to understand that last night, he was speaking in reverse. His coldness was due to his anger.
Angry because she thought he would give up on her and marry someone else.
The surrounding air became unusually quiet.
Vera’s once-calm heart was now stirred, waves churning into a vortex, pulling her entire being back in.
Her mind was filled with memories of his goodness, his sacrifices, and how he held her tightly during the car accident, treasuring her as if she were precious...
Meanwhile, in the old house, Jean Crowe picked up a teacup and smashed it on the floor, her lips turning purple with anger.
Was the arranged marriage a lie? Or did her good son give up Miss Crowe for that impotent Vera?
Even if it were a rumor, why clarify it today?
Couldn’t he wait a day for the stock price to rise back next week and secure his CEO position?
Did he not want the company anymore?
Jean Crowe was furious at the thought of Ian Kane sacrificing his future to please Vera and win her back, clutching her aching chest, struggling to breathe, slumping onto the redwood sofa, trembling as she called for Nanny Hale.
Just then, she heard from the TV, her good son continued:
"Due to my personal reasons causing significant losses to the Kane Group, I consider myself unfit to continue serving as the CEO of the Kane Group and will respect Chairman Kane’s decision while actively resigning from the position of CEO."
"I deeply apologize to the shareholders and stockholders who have trusted and supported the Kane Group all along!"
"Everyone, I’m sorry!"
On the screen, Ian Kane, dressed in a suit, left the podium, buttoned his suit, and then bowed deeply.
With his words, both Old Master Kane and the entire First House were shocked!
Ian Kane actually voluntarily gave up the CEO position!
Amidst the shock, Liam Kane crossed his legs, lit a cigarette, and looked smug, "Grandpa, Ian is really a lover boy. Last year, he nearly lost his life for Vera. This year, he’s even giving up the company!"
Old Master Kane clasped his hands behind his back, pacing with a heavy expression. As he passed the sandalwood desk, his gaze suddenly fell on a copy of "The Book of Changes" bound in blue with ancient methods.
This was a handwritten copy by a famous modern calligrapher.
A few days ago, Ian Kane had someone send it, saying it was a gift for him.
Old Master Kane squinted his eyes, his mind filled with Ian Kane’s confident demeanor, capable of strategic planning.
"Liam, if you had half the shrewdness and strategy that boy has, I’d be content!"
Half is unnecessary; even twenty percent would suffice!
If Liam had twenty percent of that boy’s shrewdness and strategy, this old relic could finally retire behind the scenes and enjoy family bliss!
Liam Kane was startled, uncrossing his legs, and walked behind the old man, "Grandpa, what do you mean?"
Old Master Kane tightened his grip, his gaze sharp, "He’s using retreat to advance!"
"That kid doesn’t have ’give up’ in his dictionary! There’s always a clue when he acts out of character!"
"He released news about the marriage alliance with the Crowe Family just to coax his wife. He has other tricks up his sleeve to compete with us!"
Old Master Kane’s fingers tapped the table repeatedly, "Liam Kane, instruct the traders to protect the stock immediately! Ian Kane wants to take advantage of the situation to buy low!"
Ian Kane’s sudden resignation would be seen as a major negative, causing panic selling and a drop in stock prices.
He realized that this kid wanted to use negative news (resignation) to suppress the Kane Group’s stock price, buy circulating shares or major shareholder stocks at low prices, and ultimately gain control and seize power!
Liam Kane looked at his grandfather’s serious and anxious demeanor and immediately went to give instructions.
The press conference ended.
Under the escort of bodyguards, Ian Kane took the elevator directly to B1 level and got into the Phantom.
Just after lighting a cigarette, Elias Crowe in the passenger seat reported to him, "President Kane, Manager Kane just instructed the stock traders to protect the stock."
Ian Kane let out a sneer, a faint smile on his handsome face behind the smoke, "Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted."
Elias Crowe was momentarily stunned, realizing the situation belatedly, "Boss, I figured it out. Earlier, you used Nina Sullivan to deliberately spread rumors about your affair just to cause a sharp drop in the Kane Group’s stock price, taking the opportunity to join external capital from the Crowe Family to aggressively acquire Kane Group’s shares and increase your equity holdings!"
Ian Kane flicked the ash off his cigarette, his dark eyes focusing on a certain point, "That old relic always tried to use the tactic of having children to press my weak spot. I want him to know who the real rule-maker is!"
Elias Crowe was startled.
A pair of sharp eyes gazed at Ian Kane in the back seat.
He sat in the luxurious leather seat, impeccably dressed in his suit, his chin slightly raised, cigarette smoke swirling around his fingers, exuding the arrogance of someone in a superior position.
This pride comes from the confidence of having everything under his control!
Such a presence from Ian Kane makes it hard for Elias Crowe, a finance graduate fresh out of college, not to admire and look up to him!
Elias snapped back to reality and smiled, "President Kane, can we order roses for Mrs. Kane now?"
Declaring in public that he only has one wife, giving up the chance to turn things around for her, how could she not turn back this time?
Ian Kane raised his eyelids, glanced at him, his face still spelled "foolish."
Elias: "..."
Ian Kane slowly exhaled a ring of smoke, his tone indifferent, "When the hunter releases its claws to let the prey go, it’s to make the prey crawl back obediently."
Elias held his breath.
He wants Vera Sheridan to return out of guilt, not to be conquered forcibly.
He has perfectly grasped Vera Sheridan’s high moral and strong sense of responsibility!
Ian Kane added another instruction, "Book a ticket for me, I’ll retreat to the mountains for two days."
Elias nodded, "By the way, Miss Crowe wants to invite you to dinner."
Ian Kane leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, "Send her back to Veridia."
Elias, "Yes."
...
Ian Kane’s high-profile declaration once made Vera Sheridan the envy of every woman online, seen as a happy woman.
Six years of fervent pursuit, nearly losing his life for her. Now, Vera Sheridan has a lame foot, her career has fallen, and messy photos have emerged of her seeking psychological help, yet Ian Kane remains steadfast, causing netizens to exclaim: true love!
Especially today, when he could have left the rumors unclarified, he chose to have nothing to do it, to give Vera Sheridan, his original partner, a sense of security, indeed a pure love fighter!
How could a man like this truly cheat!
Inside the villa, Vera Sheridan dialed Ian Kane’s number, only to find his phone was off, and so she called Elias.
Elias, "Madam, President Kane is feeling low and is retreating for two days; he should be on a flight to Tristone at this moment."
Vera Sheridan clenched her phone, "Elias, is he really not planning to fight for the Kane Group?"
Elias sighed, "I’m not sure, I suspect President Kane might feel it’s meaningless."
Vera Sheridan’s heart sank.
She suddenly recalled their wedding night, where he gently held her on the balcony under the moonlight, having drunk, he murmured by her ear, "Honey, meeting you was during the lowest point in my life, you were on stage, like a beam of light..."
"Back then, I thought, I must win over the girl, give her the best life, and let her live carefree under my wings."
For her, he worked hard to strengthen his wings, taking over the Kane Group at 26.
Now, without her, he even abandoned the Kane Group.
"Madam, President Kane’s back injury hasn’t healed; he’s had a low-grade fever every day, and just received a call from the old house, stating the old lady was so angry she was hospitalized, President Kane doesn’t know yet, I’ll head to the hospital first, arrange things."
Listening to Elias, Vera Sheridan refocused.
The mother-in-law must be genuinely ill from anger!
Ian Kane is her only support in the Kane Family, and now he has resigned; how could she not be anxious?
Vera Sheridan went to the hospital, and at the ward entrance, she saw Thea Kane by the bedside, but she didn’t go in.
After chatting with Thea Kane and confirming things were not serious, she didn’t enter the ward, to avoid further agitation.
Shortly thereafter, Vera Sheridan booked a flight to Tristone.
The flight was at nine the following morning, and Vera Sheridan rushed to the airport early, flew directly to Tristone, then took a four-hour car ride, finally reaching the mountainous area.
The last time she was here was four months ago when she got injured.
Ian Kane has a Song dynasty-style courtyard halfway up the mountain here, where they vacationed last time.
The mountain air is fresh, away from the bustle.
Halfway up the mountain, a white-walled, grey-tiled residence shrouded by evergreen is the backdrop, with golden characters above the gate reading: The Glimmer Garden.
Vera Sheridan knocked on the copper lotus-patterned door knocker.
After a while, the door opened from inside, a pine aroma wafting out, Uncle Warren poked out, visibly startled upon seeing her, quickly shifted to delight and greeted, "Vera’s here!"
Vera Sheridan nodded, "Uncle Warren."
Uncle Warren took her suitcase, "Come in, come in."
Vera Sheridan stepped over the threshold, and just as she entered the courtyard, she saw a tall, straight figure.
The man wore a white shirt and jeans, standing beneath a wall of creeping white rose flowers, hands in gloves, holding pruning shears, trimming the excess vines.
A cigarette dangled at his mouth; his movements were skilled and efficient, a picture of a homemaker.
"The mountain dew is heavy, and the temperature is low; he coughed half the night." Uncle Warren said in a low voice.
Vera Sheridan nodded and walked toward him.
The air was scented with roses, the path flanked with blooming yellow and white annual daisies, with patches of blue germander speedwell crawling through the cracks in the paving stones.
"Ian Kane." She softly called when reaching behind him.
The man acted as if he didn’t hear and continued pruning.
At his feet were heaps of branches and scattered wilting flowers.
Vera Sheridan frowned, walked a few steps closer, "Ian Kane."
Ian Kane removed the cigarette from his mouth and turned around, his tone indifferent, "What is it?"
He appeared very cold.
