Chapter 61: Chapter 61: The Video Right in Ian Kane’s Face

"Vera, what is wrong with you?"

She looked like she was experiencing a depression relapse.

Back then, after Vera’s family was shattered, Wendy Donovan took her in when she was just a child.

In the first half year, Wendy didn’t notice anything wrong with her; on the surface, she was still lively and cheerful, especially when practicing dance, always focused and never seeming to tire.

Later, it was discovered that Vera was never in bed at night but instead hid in the wardrobe.

She would curl up and sleep in the wardrobe at night.

After taking her to the hospital, it was diagnosed as post-traumatic stress disorder with moderate depression and anxiety disorder.

Vera met her teacher’s eyes, her chest felt heavy and stifled, "Teacher... Ian, he..."

Wendy Donovan asked, "What happened to him?"

Vera couldn’t speak.

Wendy Donovan and Rae Chase quickly helped her to the back row of the audience to rest.

Meanwhile, Nina was performing onstage.

She was dressed in a Black Swan ballet costume, playing the role of Black Swan Odile in "Swan Lake," performing the famous "Black Swan Pas de Deux."

On stage, she looked exactly the same as Vera did as the White Swan just moments before, only dressed differently, with a completely different aura.

The Black Swan was seductive, alluring, enticing, full of aggression and skill, unlike the White Swan Odette, who was pure, sincere, and fragile.

She had to use her eyes, posture, and dance to constantly tempt and confuse the prince, to snatch him away from the White Swan.

From several meters away, Vera watched Nina with a heart full of irony, thinking of what she had seen before.

As the music played, Nina looked at Vera in the audience, her eyes filled with ambition, as she rose on her toes and started to flirt with the prince.

Then, she began her signature 32 fouetté turns.

The judges below were amazed by her acting and technical skill, but as she danced, Nina’s footing began to falter, her spinning weakening, the speed slowing down.

Everyone was stunned.

On stage, Nina clearly felt her calves going weak, her thighs aching, unable to muster strength.

She panicked, trying harder, but her legs just couldn’t stop trembling!

Her knees buckled, and she collapsed onto the floor!

A commotion erupted from below the stage.

Nina quickly scrambled up, pointe shoes on her toes, trying the fouetté again, but with the same result.

The judges below shook their heads in disapproval.

Viewers commented online: "Is this the principal dancer of Ardendale Ballet?"

"Only 20 years old, yet being outperformed by Vera, who has a leg injury!"

Vera watched the scene, her fingertips digging deeply into her palms.

Nina’s failure probably stemmed from overindulgence with Ian Kane last night, right?

"Ms. Sheridan, my boyfriend was too wild, I have no strength in my legs..."

Vera remembered all the past spiteful words Nina had subtly thrown at her, finally believing that the "boyfriend" Nina mentioned was always Ian Kane!

Vera hugged herself tightly, trembling, her face pale as paper.

The host looked at the struggling Nina, picked up the microphone, "Nina, you may leave the stage."

Nina climbed up embarrassingly, her makeup couldn’t hide her pale complexion.

Amidst the disappointment, she sulkily returned backstage.

The competition ended, and as the host was about to announce the results, several men in suits walked out from the backdoor of the auditorium.

Leading them was Ian Kane, accompanied by Vera’s brother, Owen Sheridan.

He wore a well-fitting suit, his tie knotted neatly, looking regal and distinguished under the auditorium’s overhead lights.

Ian’s lips were tightly pressed, and he walked with long strides directly toward Vera, seated by the aisle.

Upon reaching her, Ian kneeled on one knee, looking at her with eyes filled with pain, his Adam’s apple bobbing, "Honey, it’s okay, failing a dance isn’t the end."

Wendy Donovan arched her brow, wondering how he assumed Vera had failed.

"Ian, Vera succeeded in the competition!"

At the sound of her voice, Ian paused, his gaze shifting to the large screen on stage, displaying Vera’s performance as the White Swan, elegant, confident, yet delicately beautiful.

She wasn’t affected!

His chest heaved noticeably.

"Sis! Congratulations!" Owen cheered, looking at Vera with one injured foot, still dancing as brilliantly as ever, his lips curling into a proud smile, revealing shiny white teeth.

Ian collected himself, glanced at her, speaking against his will, "Honey, congratulations!"

Yet Vera’s black eyes were fixated on him, speechless, as she raised her right hand high, and in the next instant, with a "smack," slapped his face hard.

"Ian Kane! You cheating scumbag, stop acting, I’ve seen everything!" She finally shouted! 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

His little lover had already caused a scene in front of her, yet he still pretended!

As soon as Vera’s voice fell, everyone’s attention in the hall converged on them.

Owen was also shocked.

Milo Hale rushed in from the right side entrance of the auditorium, gripping his phone tightly.

The vast auditorium plunged into a deathly silence, like a silent movie.

All eyes were on the couple.

Vera sat in the chair, Ian half-squatting in front of her with a clear handprint on one side of his cheek, his brows furrowed, eyes filled with confusion, looking like he had been wronged.

The man took a breath, his gaze fixed on her face, a gentle smile tugging at his lips, "Honey, is it that Nina has upset you again, making you imagine things?"

"Smack!"

Vera slapped him again.

Her bony right-angled shoulder trembled continuously, veins bulging on her neck, "You still want to lie to me!"

"Sis—"

Owen, who had come with Ian, watched Vera, usually composed and self-contained, now hysterical, gradually clenched his fists.

Had Ian really cheated?

Wendy Donovan stepped forward, quietly asking, "Vera, could there be some misunderstanding between you two?"

On one hand, she found it hard to believe Ian would have an affair, on the other, so many people were watching, and they were a notable couple in society.

Ian remained good-tempered, humbly coaxing, "Honey, can we talk in the car?"

Vera turned a deaf ear, like a cat in a fight-or-flight response, claws out, eyes filled with hostility, "An hour ago, you and Nina were in the lounge... inside... I, I saw it all!"

At this, the crowd gasped in shock.

Most of those present were artists, none spoke a word.

"Sis!" Owen looked at Vera in disbelief.

"Honey, what nonsense are you talking?" Ian asked in disbelief, lowering his voice.

Vera wanted to hit him again when she glanced at Milo, gritted her teeth, "I’ve had someone record it, Milo, where’s Milo?!"

The large hall echoed with her hoarse, trembling voice.

Upon hearing there was evidence, the crowd was even more astonished.

It was well known that Ian loved his wife dearly, and not long ago, he had confidently proclaimed at a press conference that Vera was his only wife in this lifetime.

As a businessman and public figure, to make such a promise publicly was taking a huge risk.

Milo, dressed in a white prince ballet costume with gold embroidery, along with white knee-high boots, walked step by step up the stairs towards Vera.

"Ms. Sheridan, I—" He looked at her, gently shaking his head.

In her heightened emotional state, Vera couldn’t interpret his emotions, her eyes fixed on the phone in his hand, reaching toward him, "Give it to me!"

Wendy Donovan was startled by Vera’s agitated appearance.

Watching Vera, Owen was momentarily lost, as if he saw his mother back then, also emotionally charged and hysterical.

But Ian took the phone from Milo’s hand and handed it to Vera.

"Honey, calm down."

Watching Vera, her body tense and trembling, eyes fixed intently on the "evidence," Ian’s eyes flickered with a hint of guilt.

However, she would be fine soon.

The pain was only temporary.

Vera helplessly watched the video showing Ian walking out of Nina’s lounge, dressed in a suit, adjusting his suit’s hem.

Nina followed after him, coming out from inside.

"How else do you want to argue?!" Vera thrust the screen in front of him.

Ian lowered his eyelids, looking at the screen.

Owen stepped forward, only to see in the video, Nina intimately holding onto a man who looked almost identical to Ian, his profile quite similar too.

At this moment, the man faced the camera, revealing his full face.

Owen recognized him, "Sis, that’s Carter Sutton."

"An hour ago, brother-in-law and I were still on a flight from Veridia!"

The man in the video was Ian’s cousin from his aunt’s side, studying in Veridia as a junior.

Vera’s whole body went stiff.

It wasn’t Ian.

It really wasn’t him.

Ian turned the phone screen toward her, holding her hand, softly coaxing, "Honey, look closely, it’s not me, you mistook someone else, don’t be sad."

Vera stared blankly at the screen, at the man kissing Nina’s cheek affectionately.

He gradually turned fully around.

Tears trickled slowly down the corners of Vera’s eyes, a blank expression revealing no emotion, her eyes hollow.

Ian stood up, his large hand smoothing over the back of her head, gently pressing her into his embrace, his gaze scanning the surroundings.

A red handprint still lingered on one side of his cheek, his eyes shimmering with tears, he faced the crowd, his lips curving into a gentlemanly smile, speaking deeply, "Sorry, my wife was a little distressed, lost control, misunderstood me."

Upon hearing this, Wendy Donovan sighed with relief for Vera, tears glistening at the corners of her eyes.

Thinking about Vera’s earlier state, her heart ached with empathy.

She was unfortunate enough, if she experienced betrayal like her mother did, she would truly collapse!

Quietly wiping her tears, she descended the stairs, facing their colleagues and friends, smoothing things over for Vera, "It’s all a misunderstanding, folks, everyone get back to work. What just happened was a little episode, they’ve always been very much in love!"

One of the dancers caught her eye, gesturing reassurance: Don’t worry, it won’t spread.

But what they didn’t notice was that everything that had just happened was being live-streamed in the ballet company’s broadcast...

Owen supported Vera as they left the hall, "Sis, I was on the flight from Veridia with brother-in-law, don’t be upset, it was a false alarm."

After bidding farewell to the artists, Ian followed them out, holding Vera’s wrist, "Honey, was it that Nina deliberately provoked you again?"
