Remarried Wife: Mr. Ex, We Will Never Reconcile!-Chapter 66: Giving Ian Kane a "Surprise
Ian Kane met her reddened eyes, momentarily startled, then quickly assumed she was moved by his heartfelt words. He grasped her shoulders, lowered his gaze to her, and slightly raised the corners of his lips.
"There you go again with silly talk. I love you, of course, I’m willing to accept everything about you."
Vera Sheridan realized he misunderstood and grew even more indignant, "Do you consider what you feel for me to be—" Love?
The last two words were cut off by Serena Everett pushing the door open, "Kane, sister-in-law, the Cloud Forest Goose is ready."
Serena beamed as she led two waiters in, a waft of savory meat aroma came in, but Vera had no appetite and just sat down calmly.
Ian Kane also sat down and said flatly to Serena, "Open the red wine."
Serena, "All right."
She opened the red wine, poured it into the decanter, and after setting the table, left with the waiters.
The spacious private room was left with only the couple.
Ian Kane took Vera’s wine glass with his long fingers and leisurely poured her a drink, "Honey, in less than half a month, it’ll be our wedding anniversary."
Vera paused her action of wiping her hands.
It was a coincidence that on the day their divorce cooling-off period ended, the day they could get divorced, was also their wedding anniversary.
"I’m planning to take you to Valdania for skiing to celebrate..." Ian Kane’s voice sank a little, his eyes complex, "while there’s still snow on the ground."
Vera heard that he had completely forgotten about the divorce and thought she didn’t want a divorce either.
"Do you think my foot can handle skiing?" she asked lightly.
Ian Kane gestured to her with his wine glass, his tone low, "That’s fine. Watching me ski is good too. Either way, I must take you to Valdania."
"It’s settled then, we’ll leave on our anniversary, and the time difference will work out perfectly when we get there."
His words ended, and he drained his glass in one go.
Vera watched the man opposite her still playing the part of the devoted husband, and a rebellious streak arose, deliberately not refusing.
On that day, she’d give him a "surprise!"
She gripped the wine glass and drank it all at once.
Ian Kane only thought she had agreed.
After their meal, they hurried back to Ardendale that night.
As the car drove onto the road, Vera glanced through the window at "Vani" at the foot of the mountain and "The Glimmer Garden" halfway up the mountain, faintly glowing with light in the darkness, her smile full of irony.
Once, she thought "The Glimmer Garden" was his expression of deep affections for her, little expecting another lover lived at the foot of the mountain, and that he was having an affair with her student right under her eyes.
Returning home, the sight of Maeve reminded Vera of that cufflink...
Opening the bedroom wardrobe, she saw that black lace nightgown in the corner, and her mind was filled with the torments she faced during psychotherapy. While she was striving for him, he had already been unfaithful...
All of it felt like a relentless slap across her face.
She logged into the civil affairs system to confirm that she and Ian Kane were still in the divorce cooling-off period.
Twelve days remained until the end.
If they wanted to cancel, both had to go to the marriage registration office, or if they didn’t finalize the divorce certificate within three days after the cooling-off period, it would automatically cancel.
The next day, Vera stayed home to rest, discreetly contacting her buyer friends in the luxury circle to appraise the value of the jade and other jewelry in her safe, planning to sell it all.
Ian Kane loved gifting her jade, always said that only the best jade could match her beauty, but because of her career, she couldn’t wear it and had to lock it away.
Every time she asked him to stop, he agreed but still kept buying.
Kane Group, President’s office.
Elias Crowe knocked and entered, "The tickets are booked, for the 26th at the end of the month."
"Attorney Grant has also arrived; he’s in the meeting room."
Ian Kane was feeding a canary in its cage, glanced at the time on his wrist, put down the spoon, wiped his hands, and stood up.
He pushed open the meeting room door and coolly walked towards the conference table, looking at Noah Grant, who was sitting and browsing documents, the corners of his lips upturned, "Barrister Grant, I’ll miss the meeting today."
Noah Grant raised his chin.
The man was impeccably dressed, with a solemn expression, a slight frown, silently gazing at him.
Ian checked his watch, "I have to go practice skiing today. Our anniversary is coming, and I’m taking Vera to Valdania for a vacation."
Noah Grant’s expression remained unchanged as he reached for a cigarette box, pulled out one, "Ian Kane, you had business; you could’ve let me know instead of having me come here for nothing?"
Ian Kane moved to a chair, resting his left hand on the back, his wedding ring still glistening brightly on his ring finger.
Looking down with a subtle smile, he gazed at Noah, "How could I let Barrister Grant suffer? We grew up together, shared a pair of trousers as brothers."
Noah Grant lowered his head, frowned, lit his cigarette, and ignored him.
Ian Kane added, "It’s my wife who insists I accompany her to Valdania to ski, to make up for my childhood regrets. I can’t ski yet, so I have to hurry and learn."
On hearing this, Noah Grant instinctively clenched the cigarette, his face still unchanged as he looked through the smoke at Ian’s proud face.
"There are no walls in the world without cracks; I want to see how long you can keep it from her."
Ian Kane remained unfazed, feigning ignorance, "You’re just jealous; I’m off."
...
After many days, Vera Sheridan came to the Ardendale Ballet Company.
She had been on leave and hadn’t processed her resignation yet.
Nina Sullivan had been dismissed, Evelyn Rivers injured her ankle, Milo Hale successfully entered The National Ballet, and now the company faced a shortage of successors.
Vera now understood that Nina’s previous promotion to principal was due to Ian Kane’s support from behind, and Evelyn’s injury was possibly related to him.
And her being marginalized by the company was undoubtedly his doing.
Thinking her involvement might have caused Evelyn’s injury, Vera transferred 500,000 into her account.
In the evening, the director’s office at the ballet.
Vera handed her resignation letter to Director Donovan.
...
Vera and Director Donovan descended the stairs together, just as the impeccably dressed Ian Kane emerged from her office on the second floor.
"President Kane!" Director Donovan called warmly.
Ian courteously nodded, looking at Vera, "Why aren’t you in the dance studio? I just went to look for you."
Vera, "I came over to see Director Donovan about something."
Director Donovan interjected, "President Kane, Ms. Sheridan came to submit a resignation letter. All right, I’ll not intrude; I’m off now."
As she left, Ian Kane frowned, staring at Vera, recalling her call with Wendy Donovan that night, his eyes flickering with suspicion, "Why are you resigning from here?"
Vera sensed his suspicion and felt a pang of worry, not wanting any complications before the divorce was finalized.
