Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Checking Her Phone Gallery

When exactly did it happen?

The man pondered anxiously.

Vera also noticed the smell on her body.

A sudden tightness around her waist made her turn her head, meeting Ian Kane’s profile. His expression was sinister and displeased.

She remained calm and slightly pulled away from him, "What’s wrong?"

Ian Kane looked at her, the corner of his lips slightly raised, "I don’t like the scent of another man on you."

Vera raised her eyebrows, pretended to sniff the smell on her coat, "Really?"

Her gaze lightly brushed over the collar of his shirt, partially hidden love bites.

Ha, he still bore the marks of his affair with a lover, yet accused her of smelling like a man. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Ian Kane’s face remained expressionless, "Yes."

He sounded calm, yet there was an undeniable forcefulness.

In the past, Vera would have felt panic and guilt. Now, she understood clearly that he was trying to tame her.

"I don’t know when this happened. I’ll go to the bathroom to take care of it." She feigned compliance.

Ian Kane, "I’ll go with you."

At the bathroom door, just as Vera was about to enter, Ian Kane clasped her wrist, "Wife, your phone, give it to me."

Vera froze for a moment, "Why?"

Ian Kane’s brows furrowed with displeasure as he questioningly replied, "To see why you weren’t answering my calls?"

His tone was sarcastic, accusing her.

Vera took out her phone from her evening bag, "It was on silent, I didn’t hear it."

Ian Kane took the phone from her hand. Instinctively, Vera grasped it briefly. "You don’t trust me?"

He glanced at her with a half-smile, remained silent, and with a slight force, took her phone away.

"This has nothing to do with trust or distrust. Between husband and wife, checking the phone signifies... intimacy." He said this while unlocking her phone using her face.

Vera snorted coldly.

He’s still gaslighting her!

He even opened her phone’s photo album in front of her!

Vera’s pupils shrank slightly.

Did he suspect that the person in the stairwell was her?

Ian Kane sifted through Vera’s phone album but found nothing suspicious.

Her album was simple, filled mostly with stray animals or sweet moments between them from the past.

For instance, the inner page of their marriage certificate, photos from the day they registered their marriage; or their wedding day, when he knelt on one knee and vowed to her...

He had said, "Vera Sheridan, in this life, unless I’m dead, I will never betray you."

The man’s lips curved into a smile, his eyes softened as he handed her the phone, "Next time, don’t put it on silent, darling. You have no idea how anxious I get when I can’t find you."

Vera, "..."

This person is truly hypocritical.

Vera stared at him for a moment, took the phone, and turned into the bathroom.

She was grateful she had the foresight to upload the video to the cloud and delete it from her phone.

Otherwise, he would have discovered it just now.

Vera stood by the sink, looking at herself in the mirror, took a deep breath, and the next second, she saw Serena Everett exiting the bathroom stall, a sense of sadness welled up.

Serena glanced at her and was visibly surprised, "Sis, sister-in-law."

She flashed a smile and walked towards her.

Vera glanced at the red marks on her neck and the creases around the waist of her cheongsam through the mirror, smiling faintly. In a casual tone, she said, "I didn’t notice you tonight. I only saw Young Master Shaw playing mahjong. You were keeping my mother-in-law company?"

Mentioning Jean Crowe made a stiff expression on Serena’s face, her eyes flashed with a hint of fear.

Vera had recently found out that after the secret affair between Serena and Ian Kane was discovered by Jean Crowe, Serena had been sent to a mental hospital. It was said that she was almost truly insane when she was discharged.

"Sister-in-law, I was accompanying my future mother-in-law. Evan and I are getting married soon," Serena snapped out of it and walked closer, smiling as she spoke.

About to marry, yet still involved with Ian Kane in such situations... Vera didn’t even feel like commenting.

She washed her hands, sprayed on cool tea-scented perfume, bid farewell to Serena, and left the bathroom.

...

At the Hawthorne Family’s birthday banquet, it was a gathering of the powerful and wealthy. Even someone as influential in the business world as Ian Kane was seated at Table 6.

Old Madam Grant and Noah Grant, as the most distinguished guests, were situated at the head of the main table, surrounded by admiration.

Under the brilliant lights, Noah Grant’s features were chiseled, exuding an indescribable aristocracy—a high-ranking official beside him was engaging in conversation.

He listened attentively, a hint of a smile on his lips, though there was a subtle air of aloof nobility.

As Ian Kane served Vera some soup, he inadvertently noticed his mother, Jean Crowe, observing Noah Grant in awe, causing his hand to tremble slightly, his eyes dimming.

He lifted his wine glass and downed it in one go.

Noticing his discomfort and how he drank several glasses of wine in a row, Vera no longer worried like she used to about him harming his liver or stomach with excessive drinking. She silently focused on her soup, pretending to be oblivious, without advising him.

As the banquet concluded, the man was visibly drunk, his face flushed, reeking of alcohol.

In the car, as Vera was about to fasten her seatbelt, Ian Kane embraced her. She struggled instinctively, and he buried his head in the back of her neck, slurring, "Why didn’t you stop me from drinking alone? Did you get mesmerized gazing at him, hmm?"

The man’s tone was filled with jealousy, with a faint hint of... bitterness.
