Chapter 99: Chapter 99: His Schemes, All for Nothing

Ian Kane’s crimson eyes were locked onto the two people embracing each other.

The venomous fire of jealousy in his chest instantly raged, burning away his reason and overpowering the knife-twisting pain in his abdomen.

He suddenly mustered all his strength and charged desperately at the glaring figures!

But his steps were unsteady and staggering; after just two strides, his body uncontrollably pitched forward.

"Kane!"

Serena Everett exclaimed in surprise.

Seeing Ian Kane about to fall embarrassingly, she urgently lunged forward.

She used all her strength to support his heavy body.

Her slender arms barely managed to support one of his arms, but the immense force pushed her back several steps.

Her back hit the cold wall heavily before she barely stopped them both from falling together.

Ian Kane clutched the wound in his lower abdomen tightly, blood seeping from between his cold, pale fingers, staining the hospital gown and his palm red.

His lips were as pale as paper, and his forehead was dotted with sweat the size of beans, his whole body trembling slightly from the intense pain and blood loss.

But he didn’t care; he suddenly raised his head, his bloodshot eyes like sharp blades piercing straight towards Noah Grant not far away.

The man squeezed out a hoarse, violent roar through his teeth:

"Let her go!"

The shout exploded like thunder in the silent corridor.

Vera Sheridan, nestled in Noah Grant’s arms, shuddered violently, instinctively turning her head toward the sound—

Her gaze instantly collided with Ian Kane’s pale, twisted face, and the glaring red on his abdomen.

Vera’s pupils constricted, instinctively clutching Noah Grant’s suit hem.

Ian Kane clearly captured this scene.

Her reliance on Noah Grant stimulated him again—

He had just softened because of her tears and made the most foolish decision, and now she was throwing herself into Noah Grant’s arms.

Her so-called "no turning back" had long been secretly communicating with Noah Grant!

Ian Kane stepped forward, gritting his teeth and growling low, "Vera, come over here!"

Feeling the intense jealousy in his eyes, Vera shrunk her neck, thinking of Owen Sheridan, worrying he might change his mind from the provocation.

At this time, Noah Grant gently patted her shoulder, silently comforting her, warm and strong.

The man took a step forward, shielding her behind his tall and upright figure.

Noah Grant’s gaze was cold and warning as he looked at Ian Kane, "Ian Kane, what is your relationship with Vera now? You know better than I do. You are already undergoing divorce proceedings; you have no right to call her over!"

His voice was not loud, but every word was clear, striking Ian Kane.

Ian Kane let out a chuckle, "Is that so."

"Vera, don’t force me."

As the words fell, the twisting pain from the wound almost made him faint.

Vera’s nerves tightened, hearing that he was about to use Owen Sheridan to threaten her again.

At this moment, Noah Grant’s phone vibrated; it was the lawyer in charge of Owen Sheridan’s case calling, and he immediately answered.

After listening for just two sentences, he decisively pressed the speaker button.

The phone’s speaker clearly transmitted the voice of the lawyer he had sent as an agent.

The calm male voice carried a hint of relief:

"Attorney Grant, Mr. Ian Kane’s legal representative just formally signed the ’Declaration of Waiver of Criminal Prosecution’

and the ’Settlement Agreement’ with us, 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

clearly stating that Mr. Kane himself permanently waives the right to pursue criminal responsibility for Mr. Owen Sheridan’s ’intentional injury’ and promises not to retract.

The police have already processed the paperwork according to this, and Mr. Owen Sheridan has just signed and been officially released without charge!"

The clear declaration struck hard at Ian Kane’s heart.

Vera’s tensed body suddenly relaxed as if the last bit of supporting strength had been pulled away, her thin figure swaying slightly.

She tightly closed her eyes, two lines of hot tears silently sliding down her pale cheeks.

Owen Sheridan was truly safe.

Ian Kane’s clenched fist slammed into the white wall, emitting several broken, twisted cold laughs from his throat.

His black eyes were fixed on the wound bleeding from his abdomen.

Owen Sheridan’s decisiveness when stabbing him, Vera’s tears, his impulsive decision of softness, her intimacy with Noah Grant... everything tonight formed a perfect cycle of excruciating torment on his body and mind.

The blood in his entire body was flowing backward, rushing to his head, and Ian Kane’s vision turned black.

Then, his body convulsed violently, the hand pressing on his abdominal wound slid down powerlessly, and his entire body, like a puppet whose strings had been cut, completely lost consciousness, collapsing limply into Serena Everett’s arms.

"Kane! Kane, what’s wrong with you?!"

"Doctor! Nurse! Come save him!" Serena Everett held the unconscious, ashen-faced Ian Kane, crying out frantically, her voice full of fear and helplessness.

The sharp alarm bell instantly pierced through the silence of the corridor.

Vera came around from behind Noah Grant, watching as Ian Kane was being supported feebly by Serena Everett.

She pressed her fingertips deeply into her palm, her throat tightening, her heart unable to describe how it felt.

Ian Kane’s calculations had ultimately calculated himself into a corner.

Vera turned her head to face Noah Grant.

"Let’s go," his voice was low and firm.

Vera nodded.

The two headed in the direction of the elevator, to the corner.

Vera turned her head to glance over at the chaos.

Ian Kane was lifelessly lifted onto a gurney by medical staff, with Serena Everett crying and shouting as she followed behind.

...

The elevator doors isolated the outside clamor, leaving only the two of them in the cramped space.

Vera leaned against the cold wall of the elevator, completely calming down from her breakdown.

She glanced sideways at the tall figure beside her, inadvertently noticing the wrinkled lower hem of Noah Grant’s expensive suit, her fingertips curling.

"Senior, I’m sorry... I lost my composure just now." Just now, she had overstepped too.

Noah Grant, hearing her, shifted his gaze from the elevator’s changing numbers to her slightly lowered side face.

Her eyelashes still carried tiny droplets of tears, her nose slightly red, the dull blue under her eyes unable to hide her exhaustion.

Recalling her earlier "loss of composure," an inexplicable softness welled up in his heart, and a gentle curve appeared on his thin lips.

"It’s alright."

His voice was warm and calming, carrying the power to soothe.

Vera’s lips curved slightly upwards.

Noah Grant’s gaze swept over the wrinkles on his suit, then when he raised his eyes again to meet hers, "My suit fabric is quite sturdy." His tone carried the faintest tease, "I don’t mind if you grab it a few more times."

Vera was startled, meeting his enigmatic, seemingly amused eyes.

The atmosphere was subtle.

Vera seemed to understand yet not understand, shifting her gaze away, unwilling to delve into the deeper meaning hinted at in his words.

The soft ding of the elevator reaching the floor broke the silence.

Noah Grant naturally turned his body slightly to shield her, "Let’s go."

Vera gently responded, walking out.

...

The two went to the local police station to pick up Owen Sheridan.

A sleepless night had left Owen Sheridan with bloodshot eyes, and stubble growing around his mouth. He leaned wearily back in his chair, his hands resting on his knees, fingers clenched tightly.

He also heard from the lawyer that the entire incident was deliberately provoked and orchestrated by Ian Kane.

At this moment, Owen Sheridan’s mind couldn’t shake the wounded look Ian Kane had when he actually stabbed him.

He swallowed, his voice faintly hoarse, "Sis, don’t soften up..."

These words were also meant for himself.

Vera looked at his haggard profile, noticing the trace of a tear on his cheek, "I’ve long since given up on him. The court is about to convene, and I have evidence of his infidelity. It won’t take too long."

In the passenger seat, Noah Grant clearly heard the words "given up" from her lips.
