Restart:Untalented Man-Chapter 418: Briefing
"He should be in Turtevekesia or Sidgean. Hmm, I suppose it's about time to order the spy in Mindsza to check his whereabouts. It's gonna take a while for sure."
"Uhm...Your Majesty?" A soft voice spoke up and interrupted his monologue.
"Huh?" Startled, the young king looked up and noticed there was a woman around his age sitting across from him.
Apparently, he got so absorbed in his own thoughts that he completely forgot about her existence.
"I'm sorry, Audrey. I kinda forget you're here," he admitted and offered her a wry smile.
Audrey shook her head. "It's okay, Your Majesty. I can come back later if you want. It just feels wrong listening to you murmuring about sensitive information."
Since she was called here, Audrey thought the king was about to hand a new task for her. She didn't expect to hear his monologue instead.
"Oh no, it is fine. You don't have to worry about that. I called you here because I have task for you to do."
"I expected so too." Audrey replied before asking, "Where should I go this time?"
Audrey had been serving in the Ministry for a few years now. Although the workload had increased, so had her salary.
She had little to complain about.
On the contrary, she was grateful for not being like her superior, Minister Michael Manfura, who was stuck in the office all the time.
At least, she got to travel to places albeit for work reasons.
"You catching up fast. Good!"
As the king opened the folder and began explaining the details of the assignment, "I assume you know about the crisis that befall our kingdom not too long ago, right?"
"If you're talking about the rebellion, yes, I'm aware of it."
There's no way she could miss something that big. And since the rumours she heard also mention Blande and Cerdeauxia, her next destination should be one of the two.
"Good! That's save me a lot of time explaining. You're going to Cerdeauxia, meet with their president and request them to return our runaway governor who is currently under their protection."
Hearing the mission objective, Audrey wrinkled her nose. "This...is hard. The success rate is pretty low."
"I know, right?" Even the king himself agrees with her assessment. He pushes a file on the table in her direction. "You can read the rest of information in this file."
Audrey took the file offered to her and briefly opened it. Her eyes shifted left and right as she scanned through the documents inside while her head bobbed up and down.
Once she was done, she closed the file and looked at the king. "Yup, the success rate drop even lower after reading the file."
Riz chuckled, "Well, take your time. While I do wish for you to head there as soon as possible, it's not like that bastard is going anywhere."
No. The runaway governor can't go anywhere as the safest place for him right now is under the president's protection.
If he ever leaves Cerdueaxia's protective shade, he will find himself hunted down by the his agents.
Speaking of SIN agents, Riz forgot to mention another thing to Audrey.
"I'll assign someone to protect you when you're in Cerdeauxia."
"Yes...???"
Audrey found it very weird that the king had to mention this on his own since she would always be guarded whenever she travelled outside the kingdom.
"I get why you're confused," Riz said after looking at her perplexed expression before proceed to explain it further, "It will not be Bellarina this time but someone else."
"Is that so?" Knowing the person in charge of her security would be a different one from the time she was in Barlia, Audrey's bewildered looks turn gloomy.
Audrey has grown closer to Bellarina during her time there. However, she never once met her again after returning to Bideford.
While she knows the life of an agent is different from normal people, still...
'I thought we were friends...'
"Don't worry about Bellarina. She's busy with another mission outside of kingdom."
"I see. No wonder she never contacts me. Life as an agent is sure tough." Audrey accepted the excuse without much question.
It's not like she had the authority to personally pick whoever she wished.
"I'm not sure about the tough part, though. Depends on luck, I guess." he shrugged.
"May I know who will be guarding me this time?" Audrey inquired out of curiosity.
Riz snapped his finger.
In response, a figure emerged from who knows where and stood beside the king.
Plain face with no notable features.
Audrey couldn't help but startle.
She hadn't been aware that a third person was hiding in the king's office.
It's the king's office!
She looks at the king to see his reaction.
He doesn't seem surprised at all, suggesting that he was fully aware of an extra presence in the office.
Perhaps he's the one who gives permission.
Yes, that must be it.
After all, who in their right mind would hide here unless they want to be assumed of trying to assassinate the king?
"Introduce yourself," Riz ordered.
"Should I use..."
"Yes," Riz interjected with a nod.
"Hello, miss. My name is Remy. You can call me Remy," Agent Wheatman introduced himself calmly and politely.
He didn't reveal his full name but it doesn't matter. 'Remy' is more than enough for their interaction.
"My name is Audrey Benett. You can call me Audrey."
The weird look on Audrey's face has yet to disappear. She looked at him up and down as if he was crazy.
Sensing her unconvincing gaze, Wheatman decided to dispel it. "Miss Audrey, I may look plain but I'm pretty strong."
"Haa...I see." Audrey gives a monotonous reply to a man who is flexing his not-so-big arm.
"He's right, Audrey. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Despite being put on 'standby' mode for a while, his skill is as excellent as ever." Riz nodded while passing the sealed letter to Wheatman. "Here, deliver this for me, Remy."
"As you wish, Your Majesty."
Wheatman then looked at her, "Let's hope we completed our mission successfully, Miss Audrey."
