"Don't worry about it, milord. I'll keep that in mind." Charlotte reassures him.

"Great! Now, let's move on to another topic since you're here."

"Another topic?" Charlotte inquired.

"Yes. What's going on in the north?" Riz asked.

"The north is..."

....

"The storm is brewing in the north. I can smell it," said Oldman Dunn while looking at the murky sky.

At the moment, he looks like a wise venerable sage who has lived for hundreds of years.

Despite the mood encouraging him to stay in character, the old man decided to continue with his current task—sweeping the dried leaves that littered the garden.

Shwoosh—

It had been almost a year since Oldman Dunn found employment within the grandeur of Klover mansion.

He had an awkward start but in the end, he managed to settle down quickly and seamlessly integrate into the life of the mansion

He also got along with his fellow gardeners and servants.

Oldman Dunn was certain that someone from Klover had investigated his background first before hiring him.

It would be too shabby if a prestigious noble family skipped such an important part in their hiring process.

Since he got hired, that means there's no problem with his background story which means nobody suspects him of being a spy.

With the possibility of being discovered was reduced to near zero, Oldman Dunn quick to start his work as a spy.

As is often the case in noble houses, the servants were the most informed individuals, privy to the intricate details of the ducal family's daily affairs.

True to his expectations, Oldman Dunn discovered that the Klover family, both the main lineage and its branches, was a wellspring of juicy information.

Each day, he diligently gathered morsels of information—obtained from casual exchanges in the kitchen, hushed conversations in the hallways and the unguarded moments that members of Klover unintentionally revealed to their trusted attendants.

With each of the potential value of the information he could gather, Oldman Dunn didn't hold back. He discreetly fed his headquarters with all the intel he could find.

The daily grind in the mansion filled with familial disputes, love affairs, and shifting alliances became the fodder for his reports.

Currently, the familial dispute becomes contentious and the relationship becomes stringent.

The atmosphere inside the main mansion becomes tense.

Duke Percival Klover, the head of the family, found himself besieged from all sides.

The familial bonds between the main family and its branches have never been amicable to begin with but it has never been so hostile as it is right now.

He slowly lost his grip on the branch families. The branches grew increasingly assertive and began challenging his authority.

Both their discontentment and greed that they were trying to hide all this time begin to surface.

"Is it true that young lady is going to be married away?" asked one kitchen maid.

A stable boy nods, "That's what I've been hearing. Apparently, the groom is said to be the future count from the northwest region."

"Hah?!" Her lips parted as she gasped in surprise. "Isn't that degrading toward young lady's status? She is the duke's only daughter."

"It's weird, right? I don't think the duke will agrees about this." The stable boy seems to share the same opinion as her. "This rumour smells fishy."

"True. If the Duke agrees, Lady Sarika has to move to that poor and barren place. Who's going to be the next duke then?" The kitchen maid mused.

"Why don't both of you go back to your work instead of gossiping here?" an old chef who happens to take a break interrupts their conversation.

He wants to steer them away before they turn the space behind the kitchen into their hangout spot.

"Shut up, old man. We are on our break just like you," the kitchen maid retorted.

"But your break was two hours ago..."

"Ugh... don't be so uptight and take a seat," the kitchen maid insisted, inviting the old chef to join their break-time gathering.

The old chef takes a seat, "So, what's you've been talking about?"

"The marriage rumour. I can understand if the candidate has such an exemplary attitude for the duke to marry his daughter to someone with a lower status. But I don't think that's the case." said the stable boy.

"Heh! Classic move." the old man snorted. "Young people like you may not realise it but people like me who have been working in many noble households know that this is a move to get rid of our young lady. Isn't that right, Dunn?"

Oldman Dunn, who had been silently standing nearby, nodded his head in agreement.

He had come to this corner because he had noticed the talk among the servants.

His intention was never to join but simply to listen to their conversation.

Both the stable boy and the kitchen maid were surprised, realizing they hadn't noticed his presence until now.

This new worker seems to have blended with nature.

"How long have you been standing there, old gardener?" the kitchen maid asked.

"Since you started, I guess," Oldman Dunn calmly replied.

The stable boy and the kitchen maid exchanged sheepish glances, realizing that their conversation had not been as private as they thought.

The stable boy cleared his throat, "If you're interested, you should take a seat and make yourself comfortable, old gardener. There's no need to stand," the stable boy said.

He then turns to the chef, asking for more details. "By 'remove', do you mean this was all the branch families' doing?"

The chef simply nodded in response. "Who else but them?"

"T-then, does that mean the next duke would be from the branches?" the maid kitchen asked.

She couldn't imagine what kind of hellhole this place would be if the branch families succeeded in their scheme.

The servants have already been treated badly by them. If they gain more power, she might consider to stop working here.

"Probably. All we have to do is wait and see since this is none of our business." The chef shrugged.
