Restart:Untalented Man-Chapter 459: Every Force on The Watch
At night, Johann sits alone inside his room in the darkness.
The funeral for his beloved grandson was completed smoothly. No problem arose and Adam was safely laid to rest in the cold earth of the commoner's graveyard.
Even so, the weight of grief and regret remained in his heart.
As he gazed into the darkness, Johann's thoughts drifted back to the purpose that had led him to the capital city of Thyrate.
He hopes to find a breakthrough in Klover's political struggle by seeking support from nobles in the capital for the sake of his grandson.
Though he knew the success rate was low, he was willing to give it a try.
Armed with his vast experience in the political arena and the lingering influence he held in the capital, many nobles were willing to meet him.
While in the capital, he moved from one grand estate to another and met many influential people. Although it was embarrassing for someone like him to do this, he had no choice but to bite the bullet.
Nobles in the capital had a louder voice in court. Johann hopes the news about him running around reaches the ears of Prince Baldwin. If Baldwin would call him to the Blueriver palace, that would be the best.
Unfortunately, as Johann's time in the capital drew to a close, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment. He hadn't received any summon. Such an invitation would be the biggest achievement of his mission.
But Johann didn't mind it too much since a part of his goal had been achieved during his time in the capital. His meetings with the nobles can be considered fruitful.
Moreover, he was not there to only meet the nobles. Johann also went to the underworld through the channel provided by the black market. His purpose was to look around and gather the latest intelligence.
Who knows a piece of devastating news was waiting for him back home.
Staring pensively out of the window, Johann's gaze drifted over the sprawling garden below.
He muttered to himself in a low voice, "I can clearly see Baldwin's stance on this succession issue. He won't interfere or take sides. As such, I'm sure he will also turn a blind eye to this incident."
Adam's life has no value to the Klovers. Naturally, the outsiders share the same thought.
Johann reached into the inner pocket of his coat and withdrew the business card he had obtained from the underworld.
The small white rectangle card felt weighty in his hand. Its surface was smooth beneath his fingertips.
Bold letters were printed on its surface, spelling out a name that Johann was familiar with.
"S-I-N."
Johann knew someone must have hired an assassin to kill his grandson. At first, he thought of getting Blackout to help him. But he quickly gave up on this idea.
Baldwin would never allow Johann to borrow his precious agents for a personal vendetta.
Therefore, an outside agency may have its use.
For Adam's sake, and for the honour of his family, Johann was willing to cooperate with an organization belong to the enemy of his own country.
....
The next day dawned over the estate. Contrary to the expectations of many, the atmosphere was surprisingly quiet.
Know that various predictions had run rampant among the residents of the estate.
Many had anticipated that Johann would continue to make a fuss. Yet, the old man remained conspicuously silent. No moves were made.
However, they didn't see Johann's inaction as him giving up. Everybody knows that Johann dotes on his grandson. They are more so to believe Johann is bidding his time and preparing something big.
All eyes are looking at Johann. Everyone believes there will be a fight between Johann and Duke Percival.
Compared to Percival or everyone else, none were as watchful as Demin's.
Demin is paying closer attention to Johann's movement. Any change in Johann's mansion must be immediately reported to him. After all, he is the one who secretly causes Adam's death.
"Are you sure Johann never suspected us?" In the office of his own, Demin asked his butler.
Anyone who believes that Johann is accepting his fate is a bunch of idiots. That man is the type that holds grudges and won't let this matter slide until his revenge is satiated.
The answer Demin urgently needs is who Johann is targeting.
"Yes, master. Johann's eyes are always on the duke. I'm also sure that whatever move he made must also be toward the duke. As for the specific plan, I couldn't get my hands on it. He didn't tell anyone in detail."
While Demin believes he is the cause, the real mastermind is busy sweeping the dead leaves in the garden.
"This place has become so tense," Dunn remarked quietly to himself.
The contradiction between the atmosphere in the estate and its beautiful garden is not only noticed by him, but also by his coworker. Everyone acts with caution.
Even those who were known to flatter the nobles and curry favour with the elite had toned down their intensity in light of the mood that had settled over the estate.
Though they may have lacked education, they were not blind.
They could still read the room. If they can't do at least this much, forget about getting closer to the noble, they might end up in the dungeon instead.
"You think so too?" A coworker nearby asked.
"Yes," Dunn nodded. "You don't have to be a genius to notice it. Anyway, reduce the frequency of your meetings with the nobles. Their mood is not very stable right now. One wrong move and you're dead."
"I know, I know." His coworker replied. Even if Dunn doesn't say anything, he already plans to put some distance a little bit. "They never pay attention to this Adam kid. Now he is dead, they're all showing their concern."
Dunn shakes his head, "They don't care about the kid. They care about his grandfather."
